I think I’m about over the Nest infrastructure

This is ridiculous. Someone rings the doorbell. Google devices announce ‘someone’s at the front door’ I have my phone in hand and click on the notification….only to be presented with a spinning blue circle. Doorbell rings again…. Spinning blue circle.

What good is a doorbell camera if you can’t see who’s at the door live? This is stupid. In addition to all the other nest problems I’ve had…. Nest outdoor camera that lasted just past the year warranty. Multiple apps to manage everything. End of life for all the nest smoke detectors I have around the house. Yeah, I think I’m moving to a different infrastructure once my smokes all time out.

Fabled Relic: Crown of the Burger Baron

I plan to cosplay Dan at GenCon this year. So here’s my crown. Could it be better? Sure.

But….It looked like a cheap, knock-off paper Burger King crown, made from dull yellow cardboard with the words Burger Baron printed in bold across the front. At first glance, it seemed like garbage.

So, even if it looks like garbage, it fits anyway!

Thanks to my daughter for designing the logo for me.

UPDATE: My daughter thinks I should have rounded the corners of the sticker off. So I’ll try again. I have 3 more crowns and 5 more stickers, so we’ll see how the next iteration goes.

Quick side note - The colors in the Burger Baron logo may not quite resemble modern BK colors. That’s because I had her use the colors from the 80’s logo. Felt it would be a little more appropriate for the back rooms. That’s part of the reason there’s a white border. The older BK yellow would have faded badly with the color of the crown if I had converted the transparent into the crown’s color.

What is this little guy?

Southern Indiana. Caught him sunning himself on a concrete block. Guess is he’s around 7-8” long based on the concrete block.

Think I got a refund for a Safe Zone violation

Don’t know if anybody can shed light on this subject.

Background context: A while back I got tagged on 69 by the Clear Path cameras. Got my warning. Couple of months later, I got tagged again and got a $75 violation. I paid it.

So today in the mail, I get an envelope from Bill Payment Processing Center in Sioux Falls SD. The check is for $75 and is drawn from a BMO Harris Bank Acct. The payer is Modaxo.

Now, not trusting random checks in the mail with no other documentation telling me what the heck I it’s for I started researching.

The routing number printed on the check is, in fact, for BMO.

The amount is $75 which is equal to a first violation.

The company, Modaxo owns Elovate which is the company that partnered with INDOT for the program.

The check appears to be printed like a real check complete with safety/anti copy features.

So I think I’m going to deposit it and see what happens.

But why? Why would I have gotten a refund on my violation?
