I think this is one of the reasons why my anti-AI position isn't holding. I understand that it's a social thing. I am anti-AI, and I'll tell you I'm anti-AI because there are intense social consequences for not being anti-AI. I don't use AI. I don't experiment with it. I know the consequences of doing so. Mystery Fleshpit Simulator is a very well-known, ongoing internet piece of storytelling art made by one person. He's not making it to make money. He's a solo artist. He put out one piece, and it was open and honest about using AI in the workflow. He used AI, Photoshop has AI tools. He used those tools within that to edit a painting that he had already drawn. And now he's being canceled, and they're calling his entire body of work slop.

These tools exist, and they're going to continue to exist. They're baked into Photoshop. From what I can gather, I use a pirated version of 2020, so I don't know. But if they're baked into the creative tools that you're already using, and you use those tools, at what point does it stop being slop and start being an artist using a tool to create art? And so now this person who has developed an audience in the last three, four years, who is very well-known in the circles that he's in, is having his career effectively destroyed overnight. Even though he was honest about the workflow, honest about the process, and explicitly knew that this backlash would happen.

At a certain point, this is just an excuse to harass people and create an outgroup. Because I don't care that he used AI in his workflow. I don't give a shit, especially if he used the baked-in tools in Photoshop to edit and manipulate his own image that he drew. How is that different than opening up Photoshop and using the content-aware fill tool, which uses an algorithm to determine variable colors and patterns and fills it in? It's content-aware.

Am I tripping out? I don't know. I'm a big fan of this guy's work and to see him dog piled and attacked sucks. It seems like the longer these tools exist, the more artists are going to want to experiment with them. The mystery fleshpit simulator guy using a generative AI tool baked into Photoshop did not create the precarious economy where you work and don't even make enough to live. I'm so sorry, but we are focused on the wrong problems. The number one contributor to global warming is the U.S. Department of Defense, but no one rallies to kick the recruiting offices out of their hometowns in the way they do about rallying against data centers, and I am also rallying against data centers, but it would be nice if we were just a little bit more realistic about why we're mad at things.

what do you guys think of emerging vkei & deathcore bands, specifically out of japan. I've seen some controversy regarding Jiluka's incorporation of edm and triggers I just wanna get more thoughts
