Men’s gym wear — why does so much of it hide the physique?

I’m curious to hear what both men and women think about men’s gym wear, particularly from bodybuilding and fitness brands like GASP, Better Bodies and Gorilla Wear rather than general sports brands.

Question for the guys:

For those of you who train 5–7 days a week, put serious effort into nutrition and spend years building your physique with everything that goes into it — wouldn’t you want gym clothes that actually enhance and show off some of that hard work?

A lot of men’s gym clothing seems to do the exact opposite. T-shirts, hoodies, sweaters and jackets are often extremely oversized and long, sometimes practically reaching mid-thigh like mini dresses. It’s almost as if men don’t train glutes or aren’t supposed to care about showing their proportions.

I’m not suggesting men should be walking around in crop tops showing their belly buttons or wearing scrunch leggings. 😅 There’s a huge middle ground.

Why not have fitted, physique enhancing T-shirts that emphasize the shoulders, chest and arms but finish roughly at the waistband/pants line, rather than hanging well below it and covering your entire glutes and upper thighs?

The same applies to pants. If you’ve spent years developing your quads, hamstrings and glutes, why shouldn’t men’s gym pants be designed to complement that? They could fit closer around the glutes and thighs to emphasize developed legs without being skin-tight, then taper toward the calves. Instead, a lot of men’s bodybuilding pants are so loose that they completely hide the lower-body physique.

Meanwhile, women’s fitness clothing seems to have gone almost completely in the opposite direction. Sometimes it feels harder to find a women’s fitness top that isn’t cropped, fitted or specifically designed to complement the physique.

Question for the women:

What would you think about men wearing more physique focused gym clothing — shorter fitted T-shirts and hoodies that emphasize the shoulders, waist and glutes, combined with athletic pants designed to complement developed quads and glutes? Would you find that more attractive/flattering, or do you prefer the oversized style that's currently common?

And for the guys:

If bodybuilding brands offered clothing like this, would you actually buy and wear it?

1992 Yamaha FZR 1000 Genesis EXUP

I got a FZR 1000 with the EXUP system a few months ago and since found out that the bike was detuned back in the days through adjustments in fuel flow and exhaust to lower insurance premiums. (I don't know why anyone would buy a litre bike in the first place if the intention is detuning, it makes no sense).

The bigger issue is, the bike is losing power at around 135 mph or 200 kph, I do hear some pops from the exhaust and I've some minimal power while the bike is losing speed, usually it lasts about a minute then it's back to normal just until I try to cross the same speed barrier where it then repeats the whole thing.

AI says could be carbon build up causing stuck valve or EXUP wiring, or issues with the EXUP motor. However, I can hear the EXUP when I turn on the bike before starting it as I should be able to.

If anyone else experienced the same or knows the fix please let me know.

Thank you all so much.

Suggest my sixth motorcycle or help me decide ♥️

Got my motorcycle license two years ago and I already tried a few bikes.

Current:

  • BMW K1200R

  • Kawasaki ZX-12R

  • Ducati ST2

  • Yamaha FZR 1000 Genesis EXUP (trying to sell or trade this one)

Owned and sold:

  • BMW R1100RT

I’ve also ridden MT-07, CB650R, Z650 and F750GS as driving school or loan bikes.

Trying to get something a bit different this time. Current options are as follows:

  1. Aprilia RST1000 Futura.

Love the looks, beautiful exhaust design, and reliable Rotax engine.

Downsides:

The one I found has issues with the speed sensors or the odometer, seller describes inconsistent speed readings and doesn't know the exact fault.

  1. Honda Shadow VT750C

First time considering a cruiser. The one I found is clean and looks great.

Downsides:

Not sure if I'm the cruiser type.

  1. BMW F650GS Dakar.

Somewhat unique adventure bike. I tried the F750GS and liked it.

Downsides:

Not sure if it provides the riding satisfaction that I'm looking for. Looks best naked, panniers and top boxes don't look appealing on it, unlike on F700GS or F800GS.

Something else?

Open to ideas. Ideally something a bit unusual or for some reason interesting. Older bikes are preferred mostly due to insurance costs.

What would you go for?

I’m mainly after fun, riding satisfaction, something with a cool factor or uniqueness, and not a nightmare to own.

Happy to hear all opinions.

Thanks!
