Resilience gear for Mother and other mechanic-intensive fights that have less DPS dependency?

While getting my (Combat Rogue) Shadow Resistance set put together for BT, I started thinking….if survivability is the deciding factor for this fight, as well as maybe some others that are more about staying alive during the mechanics, would it make sense to also use my PvP gear set (full Glad including shoulders) in addition to the pieces and enchants for shadow resist? Yes I sacrifice DPS but I also increase my odds of staying alive.

Perpignan to Italy, but would like to stop in Marseille / Nice first. Best ways to get there?

Two of us will be leaving from the Perpignan FR area traveling to Amalfi / Sorrento, and Rome, then on to USA. Looking for transportation ideas through southern France. Can rent a car if needed, but would prefer something faster.

Best way to get from Perpignan to a stop in Marseille and/or Nice? Then fly to Rome?

Debuffs in Logs not adding up....

I'm looking at some logs and noticed something interesting...in the list of Debuff uptimes, the percentage is a SUM of the underlying uptimes, not an average. This doesn't make sense to me mathematically.

Example: Expose ARMOR shows 58%, but the underlyings are nowhere near that. WHY?

Additionally, the counts don't match up. For example, there is no way it was up 23 times in the span of a short 3 min fight for one boss. What do the counts actually mean?

I think I'm reading this wrong, but not sure how!

New Guild Roster Rules - any suggestions?

Buiding up a new guild with a focus on raiding. Have a "core" group of 15-20 already, but will be recruiting of course. I'm looking for ideas on how to handle roster spots as we add new raiders to the guild, and eventually have 40-50 to access for putting into a 25 man roster.

  • What does your guild do?
  • How to handle no-shows?
  • How to handle two equally skilled and reliable players who both want in on a single spot available for their class/role?
  • How to handle a bench / pugging?
  • Most reliable loot system (SR, LC, EGPG, TMB, combination of the above?)

Need to replace my cover, any tips?

It’s time to replace the cover for our hot tub. It’s been about six years, the tub works great, we use it all the time, but the cover has lived long life and it’s time to replace her ;-)

Can anyone provide any tips, secrets, pitfalls, etc.? We are not handy people at all, so I’m considering hiring someone to do it for us, but maybe you guys have other ideas. Also, if there are different types of covers, I’m curious to know what works best. We have the kind that screws directly to the tub with hinges on it that folds open when we want to use it.

BlaBlaCar reviews?

Any frequent or experienced users of BlaBlaCar care to share their experience(s)? I’m planning on inserting a few rides during an upcoming trip (profile is created and verified), but I’m curious how reliable it is, anything else a first timer should know?

Some specific questions:

  1. How reliable is the carpool / covoiturage?
  2. If carpool is not available but a Bus is, is it better than booking through a bus app or just onsite ticketing?
  3. How does drop-off work? Will drivers drop you off where you need to be, or do you get out where they get out and still need to get to your final destination maybe a few miles away?
  4. Any bad experiences or pitfalls as an American traveler I should be aware of?

Advice on adding Lyon to an existing trip to Bretagne / Occitanie

I’ll be traveling to Landévant near Vannes in Bretagne to visit some friends (before heading south into Spain) and I’d like to add Lyon at the beginning because I have a friend who lives there too, but not sure about the logistics of this, I’m planning on arriving 2-3 days in advance to include Lyon, but not sure the best to travel from there to Bretagne. I’m not rich but I don’t care too much about budget either. Blabblacar, car rental, train, flight options?

Thank you!

Thatsmybis - how to handle people changing their lists?

Anyone deal with this flaw in ThatsmyBism or am I missing something. If two players have lists with similar items but in swapped order, for example Player 1 has Gloves then Legs, Player 2 has legs then Gloves. The gloves drop and P1 gets them, the legs don't drop. Then before the following week, P1 moves hi Legs higher above where Player 2 had them....if the legs drop, now Player 1 gets the legs also.

Do the officers just need to remember everyones lists? How can we prevent people from "gaming" the list sort order to ensure fairness?

Response to my husband when he rarely answers the actual question that I asked…

My (56F) husband (64M) is notorious for not answering the actual question that I ask. For example, “Hey honey, where’d you buy that circular saw?”, he responds with “well I needed it for the board I’m cutting in the garage”. Or today, “What are those plants you bought today?” , his response “I’m planting them in the backyard.”

He’s fully aware that he does this but can’t explain it, and he recognizes how frustrating it is for me.

I used to just re-ask the question again, but this often resulted in some contentious conversations. So what I have been doing lately is asking a follow-up question where the answer is what he just told me. This has worked perfectly in both alerting him to the fact that he failed to answer my real question, and avoiding an argument about it. It’s also in good fun, we laugh about it and he’ll even comment that he did it again, oops!

For example:

Me: What are those plants called that you bought today?
Him: I’m planting them in the backyard.
Me: Cool! Where are you planting them?
Him: I just told you, the back…..oh wait I did it again didn’t I?!

Frequent conversation:

Me: What time is your card game starting?
Him: I have to pickup Andy first.
Me: cool! Who do you have to pickup?
Him: Andy, he needs a ride, so…oh wait, again?!?!

From just today!

Him: what would you think about getting the house painted this year?
Me: OMG we need it, it’s looking bad. What color were you thinking?
Him: \*Well as we get into summer it’s a really good time to do it.\*
\*\*Me: As we get into summer do you think it’s a good time to do it?\*\*
\*Him: < he pauses as he realizes the situation>….oh wait, what was your question again?\*

Tl;dr. When my husband doesn’t answer the actual question that I asked, I ask a follow up that forces him to repeat what he just said, thus alerting him to the fact that he didn’t answer my question. This TLDR was harder to write than my actual post.

And for the record these are just casual conversations, not me “checking” on him or keeping tabs on him.

I'm planning a 4-week French immersion trip to France next year and would love to hear from anyone who's done intensive language immersion programs. It will most likely be a homestay course with a French family, and just me - no other students with me.

Background: I've been studying French seriously for about a year, I'm in the A2/B1 range and have online tutors through Preply. My goal is to push my French to the next level through total immersion, but I have some concerns I'd like advice on:

1. Burnout: Will being surrounded exclusively by a foreign language 24/7 become overwhelming? I'm worried about mental exhaustion from not seeing my native language for weeks. How did you manage language fatigue during your immersion experience?

I took a one-week immersion class last year (9-5pm each day) and at the end of that week I was utterly exhausted, even though outside of the course I was completely back in my own environment speaking English as I normally would. This course would not offer me that same opportunity, nor do I want it o.

2. Avoiding English altogether: This is the tricky part. I want to maximize French exposure, but I still need to:

  • Communicate with my family back home
  • Manage finances and online banking
  • Arrange travel logistics that may be easier to avoid making a grave mistake if not using English.
  • Deal with French locals who switch to English too quickly when they detect an accent

How did you balance necessary English use (family, admin tasks) while maintaining immersion? What strategies worked for keeping locals speaking French with you?

Questions for those who've done this:

  • How did you structure your day to maximize immersion while avoiding burnout?
  • What were your biggest successes during immersion?
  • What were your biggest failures or regrets?
  • Any tips for staying mentally fresh throughout the program?
  • How did you handle the practical need for English while staying immersed?

Any tips anyone could offer would be helpful! I've already spent the last hour perusing all the previous posts about immersion, but none of them seem to address this specific topic.
