What dating app does MoCo use most?

There aren't many great social places in the area beyond restaurants here where I live (Twinbrook/Rockville straight M 30-ish) so it got me wondering, are people up here using apps to meet new dates? Which ones? If so, do yall pay to use premium? I'd love to hear your take, or if you have any other good real life social spots you can recommend?

I'm not desperate to find a serious match, but if that happens over time, great!

Mostly to meet good (hetero) company for social outings, travel, & activities, etc? I figured I'd ask here because I like local (easier) dating rather than long distance dates & activities. There are also a lot of gorgeous and smart women in this area (lately it seems).

2 new retail centers coming to the Glenmont area?

I saw a post a week ago on Facebook that mentioned that 2 brand new retail centers were slated to be built in the Glenmont area of Silver Spring by 2027...

Is there anyone here that has official insight on that?

Wish facebook worked perfectly to save the post, but it was from a personal account, so I'm not sure if it's 100% true.

If it is indeed true, that would be big news! 😧

Corporate censorship makes the Internet a fake place...

Applications always flaunt that they have hundreds of millions (and even billions) of users, but in truth, most of the time, accounts that even have millions of followers only get tens of thousands of impressions when they make posts.

The math isn't anywhere reasonable, even considering bot traffic & inactive accounts.

There ARE millions of people online every minute of the day across the world, but the Internet has become paywalled & segmented into apps that restrict & moderate users so much that now many human users get 300 or less views on each post they make that repeatedly goes nowhere in terms of making those users become financially or independently successful business-wise... Yet people still struggle to post on apps that offer zero benefit beyond things to buy from others.

In truth, the town "cryers", that highlight when things aren't working properly and fairly are often muted algorithmically, and often don't even reach any point of visibility at all.

The Internet is highly segmented & segregated now, and that makes it dysfunctional & almost useless to anyone who isn't paying to sell something or hacking things to get ahead... This is what leaves honest businesses & individuals lost to fail in the polluted sea of Internet content & political agendas.

I don't necessarily think the Internet is dead, I do however believe that each of us are being firewalled into an artificial & unnatural small box when we log in to apps that limits our reach to keep us struggling to succeed & be productive... This for me also greatly helps to explain rapidly increasing wealth inequality & a host of other societal problems.

Just for example, if you were a musician, and one (good quality) song post you made could be heard by 1 million actual human people, there are likely tens of thousands of people in that diverse group that by nature would likely want to save the song... But in today's reality, it costs thousands of dollars per post to run ads to get 1 million views, which most people don't have...

We're living in a world where ppl increasingly can't earn a living if they don't pay heavily first just to function, on top of many other bills, which is brutally unfair to everyone except rich people... It's crazy how social media (MySpace in 2000) went from years of fruitful free operation to extremely expensive basic functionality & strict paywalls everywhere just in the past 4-5 years...

Tech companies still make record profits even now, possibly because they reinvest so little in making their tools beneficial & highly functional to users...

Users fund every single ounce of reach they get now, by being required to pay for "ad boosting" on their posts if they want to reach anyone...

Sounds a lot like a pyramid to me.

To fix this issue, the real discussions will need to be offline in real life -- exactly & likely because app moderation & algos RN are designed to not allow the artificial tech segmentation of users to be discussed.

The Internet is probably not dead in my opinion, it's just highly segmented by tech rules into a sweatshop for unpaid labor & toxic political agendas that doesn't really let many reach financial independence, and doesn't allow anyone to see over the fences built around them.

Traditional Japanese Teriyaki?

I just got ripped off by a sushi restaurant that charged me $20 for basically Sarku grade teriyaki... My favorite place is Miyagi Sushi in McLean, but that's a far drive...

Most places I've been to so far just pour supermarket sauce on Safeway meat, but a few ppl know that actual Teriyaki is an old-world skill (made with mirin, fried, & next to perfect sticky rice).

Does anyone know a good spot that does traditional Japanese Teriyaki? Good sushi + good pricing earns a star? Thanks 🤔

[IDL] that almost every software driven music & video player doesn't know what "random" means anymore...

Every software-based music & video player app I use now only plays a limited selection of what's in my vast saved music library...

This has been the same across multiple different devices, and happens even on "streaming sites" like youtube & spotify. When I add community feedback on the developer forums for these apps, like for VLC mobile player app (etc), the help threads just sit unaddressed in the cues.

This is even a more serious crime than when they took away headphone jacks, and when they made us all use paper straws...

Shuffle & random means don't play the same track twice, nor the same order of content repeatedly, its definition is set in stone since CD changers & dice were invented...

We should never have to pay an extra fee for it as a standard feature, it's standard functionality in my OP.

Am I hallucinating?

Or does anyone else notice this software gaslight?

Drupal has been great for many years but...

We have to admit, it's losing market share... Drupal jobs often underpay, and most people are beginning to believe that static sites and other frameworks are better incorrectly.

I gave up on WordPress long ago because it kept getting hacked.

But the main question I have for Drupal is, where's it going for the future?

I'm really not interested in core bloat, the core is already huge. Also not very interested in Ai integration nor add-on libraries.

I expected e-commerce to get less complex, and modules & themes to expand, but it seems that versions are changing so often that community notes can't keep up.

I've been developing upon it since v4, hoping you guys can tell me there's a good leadership plan & future outlook for Drupal?

Also, I have contributed in the past, I don't have the ability to do so now.

Ppl that spray insecticides around your house, Does it work?

I've never had to yet, but I notice my neighbors getting pesticides sprayed around the ground level of their houses in the area every few months (Wheaton MD specifically), and it's got me wondering what the benefits are, what kinds of pests it stops, how much it costs, and if it actually works?

I'm not referring to lawn care related treatments FTR.

TIA!

So does the site work better when you pay for premium?

I just started browsing jobs on the site this week, and it seems it's turned into a ghost town with recurring pop-ups encouraging me to sign up for premium...

When I am on the market usually, I get so many calls I have to block recruiter calls (20yr Tech IT PM & Architect), but now literally clearance jobs doesn't seem to work on my non-premium account at all.

  1. Searching for locations doesn't work right at all, it always shows me out of state & mis-matched jobs first.

  2. Search terms and log-in user name info need to be re-entered every single time I go to the site, and log-in is required too often, after abt 5 minutes of inactivity.

  3. The site seems to be totally unaware of job commute distances and the "no relocation" setting in recommending jobs. Also ignores searches for remote jobs & recommends on site work with really far commutes & jobs nowhere near to pay range settings.

  4. The site no longer makes my details visible to employers... I get zero calls like I used to. Job listings also seem limited & stagnant.

It seems that the functionality has been changed to force everyone into paying their monthly fee, although there's nothing to indicate that on the site.

As a developer myself, it's pretty obvious the site (for non-premium accounts at least) doesn't work correctly right now, or even like it used to...

If they want everyone to pay now (after all these years), they should be clear & transparent on that, instead of acting like non-premium accounts work RN.

Indeed & LinkedIn seem to be doing the same things. It may just be the economy in a bad state, but charging to find jobs if the economy is bad also disadvantages tons of people, and I don't really want to support that opportunism.

I'd appreciate pointers to alternative search sites, or config suggestions, it doesn't feel like paying job sites will add any great new discovery benefits when they don't act in a transparent & honest manner like this. TIA!

Who is responsible for grinding down street humps on GA avenue?

Many of them have been there, in the same places in Aspen Hill & Wheaton for more than 3-4+ years now...

Also the wild street grooves on Randolph near the intersection with Viers Mill...?

Are they meant to stimulate the auto suspension repair industry or something?

The speed cameras along these routes seem to be maintained more meticulously than the roads.

They're only going to get worse with summer heat waves. 🙄🔥

Aspen Hill Area Needs Better Restaurants & Bars... A Local Gov Roast

You may like the choices, and there are some fairly ok ones, and don't kill the messenger or whatever, but honestly, Aspen Hill & Glenmont is plagued by stagnant business improvement & unhealthy restaurant & biz choices.

I'm not advocating for "Chick-Fil-A-ifying" the area or anything, but the retail, restaurant, & bar scene there has been terrible. Very few clean & comfortable restaurants, no good bakeries, no great coffee shops, 7-11 is grimy AF, 30 places that only sell fried chicken & microwave grade pizza, general broom sweeping only without actual building improvement & renovations, buildings that haven't seen an architect's pen since the 70s...

Even Kensington & Olney has had a lot more biz movement & investment, and a (albeit overpriced) car wash (where you still have to vacuum your own car? WTH?) that actually works...

Aspen hill has had closed storefronts for decades, while the area is in the middle of a major financial region.

Newest thing in Aspen Hill? A giant flooring warehouse... Across from the Home Depot... A giant empty parking lot... Every day... Right next to residences where people would love to walk to a Barnes & Noble, or clothing shops, or even a smoothie shop, that isn't a tropical smoothie warehouse... 🙄

They don't even have a pizza slice joint at Wheaton mall...?! Outside of Costco?! That's almost a crime. No street food, or food truck park, nor indie fruit stands? What have they done to us?!

It's a great residential (home buying) area, but going to other towns nearby feels like taking a luxury beach vacation...

We"re lucky it's close to Rockville pike & many other places like Kentlands, etc.. where the better options exist of course, but Aspen Hill/Glenmont needs to clean it's own yard up, it feels like the runt mangey mutt "bus stop" part of the region with fleas kinda, way too comfortable with trailer home & bowling alley quality business operations. There's a metro stop there.. No "it won't make money" excuse works.

Hope yall have a great day 🙂

It's probably from around the 90s, the hook was "Pa pa pa pa powa.. Jamaican, pa pa pa pa powa".

Might have been Bookshelf Riddim, anyone got any ideas? Google & YouTube search was totally useless. 😂

That's pretty much what I remember most, but it was a solo singer playing on acoustic guitar, medium-fast strumming, that sounded kinda like Jeff Buckley.

I think "Alcohol, it's for my love" is in the lyrics, and the guy was singing about his drinking problem? Might be a 90's-early 00's song, they used to play it on East Coast radio a lot.

TIA, haven't found it after years of waiting to hear it again on radio, they just stopped playing it. 🤔

Edit: Solved! Thanks @amandatheacterss 💯
