Natural deodorant tips

I’ve been using natural deodorant on and off for years. I’ve found that natural deo co is a company that works well for me generally.

The only thing is it just doesn’t pack a punch, I know if I have a long day I won’t smell fresh as a daisy at the end, but I don’t stink!

I expect this is just the downside of wearing natural deodorant, but does anyone have any tips to make it more effective?

I exfoliate with a washcloth regularly and use good detergent to get my clothes clean, but any other tips or tricks would be appreciated!

I have also read about glycolic acids/other chemical exfoliants being used once a week just to help with deeper exfoliation. Does anyone have any experience with this? I don’t want to use something too harsh and mess up my microbiome and smell more!!!

Lighting

Hello. I’m looking at replacing my lightbulbs to benefit my circadian rhythm in the evenings. I’d like the warmest possible light and ideally as flicker free as possible (I suffer from migraines so this is a big priority for me!)

Does anyone have any recommendations? I have seen the company Block Blue Light but their claim of being “100% flicker free” seems a bit over the top considering there’s nothing to back it up on the website. I’ve also seen that their bulbs do not have certain safety certifications.

I’ve seen Phillips recommended quite a bit as well and like that I can adjust the colour on some bulbs, but are they considered flicker free?

Any tips or advice welcome thankyou!!

Very warm flicker free bulbs

I’m in the UK and looking for some bulbs that will give me very warm and orange lighting. Would be awesome if they could also switch to red but not essential.

Is there any way to get flicker free bulbs in the UK? I’ve read that LEDs cannot be flicker free so any claims to this suggests they are fake bulbs? I have bad migraines and wondering whether low level flickering from my bulbs might be contributing.

Thanks in advance for any tips!!

Non toxic bedding UK

Can anyone recommend me any non toxic mattresses/duvets/pillows available in the UK please?

Is there anything I should be looking out for with brands that claim to be non toxic in this area?

Edit: I’ve seen woolroom pop up on a quick search, thoughts on them?

Thanks!

Medical cannabis

Thoughts on use of medical cannabis long term? Debating trying it out but I’m not very clued up on long term health effects?

I like the sound of it to manage pain/nausea over taking prescription migraine meds but it wouldn’t be my last resort. So looking to weigh things up.

Do I really need to dry clean?

Found some lovely trousers from massimo dutti that are a blend of 87% wool and 13% linen. It says do not wash and to only dry clean.

I definitely don’t have the money for this so… could I get away with washing them on a very gentle cold cycle? Or will I be wasting my time and end up with them ruined.

Questions

Hey! I’m a chronic migraine sufferer and I’m intrigued about the prospect of using medical cannabis to manage my symptoms.

Any help with the below questions would be very much appreciated.

  1. Does anyone on here have experience with cannabis use helping their migraines?

  2. Is there a minimum you need to purchase? I don’t expect to get through that much as my worst headaches are luckily not too frequent (although enough to be a pain in the arse) so I’d try and limit my usage.

  3. Has anyone experienced any trouble with having a prescription at work? I work in corporate law and I definitely wouldn’t want anyone to have knowledge of my prescription. I wouldn’t be using it while at work and would reserve for when a migraine is too bad to work.

Thanks in advance guys.

Wool washing

Any recommendations for a fragrance free wool safe detergent?

Also, can I use citric acid when washing wool?

Edit: I’m in the UK!

Has anyone found anything to help with their ocular migraines?

Hey everyone, I’m hoping someone can give me some help with this!

I typically get a visual aura for about 20-30 minutes and then a headache after (although not the mind bending pain typical of a migraine). However, if I take ibuprofen when I get the aura then I can often escape without the headache. Although I still get the typical migraine hangover symptoms.

I’ve had these since I was 19 (I’m 23 now), normally only getting about 4-5 a year. However in the past year they have increased in frequency.

I had one week about 11 months ago where I had 6 in one week, the most I’ve ever had, and strangely that frequency stopped after a week and changed to getting maybe 1-3 a month. In the past 2 weeks however I’ve had an increased frequency again and have lost count of how many I’ve had.

I’ve been to the doctors about them before and they didn’t see any concern, but I will be going back and asking for blood/hormone tests to check everything is okay.

So my questions for you are:

  1. Does anyone have any tips for dealing with this? Anything that they have identified as a cause for themselves?

  2. Is there anything else I should ask the doctor to check that could be causing this?

Getting to the end of my tether now and would like to figure out what is plaguing me! Any help will be very much appreciated :)

Plastic free farming

Is it possible to farm fully plastic free? I know some farms now don’t package their products in plastic, but I assume there is plenty of plastic used during production.

Miele or Koh?

Miele UltraColor Sensitive or Koh sensitive detergent?

- have heard some people say that Koh doesn’t have strong enough surfactants? I have moderately hard water so would this mean I’d need to add a water softener to help this work?

- Miele doesn’t have as good enzymes as Koh but do the better surfactants make up for this?

Edit: would ecover bio detergent be a good alternative?

Thanks!

Cleaning bar glasses

Am I a dickhead for not cleaning my beer glass after I paid for a beer at the hostel bar? Got shouted after to clean it as it ‘isn’t a hotel’ … but I’ve never cleaned any glasses/dishes if I’ve paid for a drink/meal at a hostel before. Whoever is working behind the bar has just swept it up as part of their job. Even if they’re just working there in exchange for a room.

Happily did it as I didn’t want to be a bother but I’d like to know other people’s opinions on this!!

eye mask

Has anyone got any recommendations for a truly plastic free eye mask. I ordered one from Ayus wellness and despite an email from the company stating otherwise, the filling is obviously polyester stuffing.

I found one by Floks which looks amazing and exactly what I want, but it is £60...

Any cheaper similar recs would be greatly appreciated!

I’m hungover and have got a real craving for spicy instant noodles but am trying to avoid ultra processed foods at the moment. Does anyone have any good ideas/recipes to recreate this at home from scratch? Thanks so much

Primal suds (UK)

Does anyone remember Primal Suds who used to make really funky natural soaps in the UK? Just tried to find their website and seems they’re long gone! Anyone know what happened to them?

If anyone could suggest any similar alternatives I’d be very grateful!
