New here: How do you consistently draw cards?

I come from Hearthstone, where game makes it easy to be showered in resources. Card advantage is an almost forgotten thing with how much stuff you can generate straight to your hand

In Magic no matter what I try I often choke up and have no cards left, relying on getting a topdeck. I tried adding draw cards, but a lot of them say "draw a card, then discard a card" which is a net zero card gain and a lot of them seem... Overpriced? And then there is an issue of actually getting a draw card

Meanwhile my opponents seem to either have some combo I have no chance of understanding or have lots of small draws that still accumulate into having significantly more cards on hand

How to hide cardboard texture once model is done? I dont want it to look like just painted cardboard

I am making a Necron Monolith from cardboard and botched print pieces. But afaik cardboard is not great at being painted - it soaks paint in and keeps its cardboardy texture. After googling I found out about acrilyc plaster to coat things, but that will defeat the reason I am making it - I am poor

P.S. Asking here, because I guess terrain building does include making big cardboard structures

I have been planning my own campaign, but now I feel like I made a cheap CoS copy...

Is it fine? Some bullet points strike me similar. Even overall mood of a distant place becoming rainy and evil does

As a short rundown:

Party goes to an island that slowly sinks into the Abyss and is ruled by Yeenoghu cults. Which is kinda like Barovia, ruled by vampires

Locals are desperate and depressed

There are ancient bronze constructs, wandering about and trying to fight gnolls. Which are kinda like revenants in CoS

There is a bronze dragon sleeping, who ruled the army of those constructs. Which is kinda like Argynvost

There is a group of morally ambigious people, who might help you or not. Which is kinda like vistani

There is an underwater dungeon of sahuagin, who worship an old slaughter god(totally not Yeenoghu, trust me wink-wink). Which is kinda like Amber Temple in CoS

In the end it is not really possible to defeat Yeenoghu - only contain or banish for some time, before he will inevitably return. Which is kinda like Strahd

Instant murder at second encounter, too much Darkest Dungeon

[I AM NOT SURE IF THROWING DICE COUNTS AS VIOLENCE. IF SO: VIOLENCE WARNING]

Not really a horror story, rather a bad DMing one - that I would say if situation did not devolve into an hour-long insult-jousting match

DM told us next campaign will be a short "hardcore gauntlet of brutal combat". Alright, I love combat! It started at level 1, so we came with rather vanilla characters - Paladin, Barbarian, Celestial Warlock and Twilight Cleric. And me, as usual, a Rogue

First fight is an ambush as we are tasked to load some crates from a dinghy to a carriage. We got some guards sent to meet and help us, who quickly started dying to cultists attacking from bushes and hiding back. I think - "wow, this is cool". We deal fine, though Paladin falls two times to his annoyance and Celestial concern. DM is smiling and telling us "thats a first taste of what is to come". We load the carriage, count up the bodies - we lost 5 out of 6 guards with 12 cultists dead, calm down the horses and start our journey across the coast

Another cultist ambush hits us "two hours after, as you are passing a river going though the rocky shore". This fight goes worse, but we somewhat manage it until there is an ambush within an ambush and sahuagin attack. They throw harpoons and instantly pull two cultists and Grave into deeper water (THANKS DADI FOR GIVING OUR DM GREAT IDEAS) and after a few behind the screen rolls it is announced that Grave is dead. I ask "did I see where Grave disappeared?" and get a "well, it is a bit too late, but I will let you use your reaction to make a perception roll". Since I had already used mine, Grave "just disappeared" and now sat dumbfounded

Next round same thing happens to our Barbarian, though he manages to scream through the waves before also dying. Grave says it is unfair, to which DM replies with "never said it will be". They have a short argument about nature of fun, then decide to sort it out later and Grave with Barbarian start playing Liars Dice at the table side. Since we are level 1 and all my actions are "stand up, shoot my bow, fall back into cover" I start thinking to join them too. Grave multitasks playing dice and adding snarky comments to anything that happens

At this point cultists(who seemed to have a commoner statblock) start running away - most are either dead from our hands or disappeared beneath the sea. Celestial, a bit grumpy, tells Paladin to hide and try to recover a bit before trying to do anything else. Grave explodes into a short burst of "why bother, pointless, just die"

I pop up from the carriage to assess the situation and get a harpoon to my face. Get pulled 30 feet and torn apart by Sahuagin *Barons*. We are level one, why? And now DM begins narrating how we all died, becoming seafood for carnivorous fishpeople. He literally went "alright, you will clean them up easily" *for the NPCs* and described how they would do it. Wonderful, I rolled 3-3-3-5-6 and decided to make a risky bet on seven threes

Then DM asked if we brought backup characters, we told him to f off and had a nice heated discussion about artificial difficulty and bullshit. He kept insisting we knew what we signed up for, but in our opinion it wasnt so clear. Grave gets more and more agitated, talking about how we did expect it to be hard but an extra bit of "you get dragged away into nowhere and ganged on" was unnecessary at best. When asked about what we should have done DM answer was "not my issue, it is your task to solve problems". GRAVE THROWS HIS DICE BAG AT DM and screams "NOT MY ISSUE, IT IS YOUR TASK TO DODGE". It wasnt well-aimed and plowed through the screen into DM neck. Barbarian tries to hold Grave out of using more items as improvised weapons, while I carefully remove shocked DM from the room

Why? "It was more fun in Darkest Dungeon". Oh dear...

After calming down it took us nearly 40 minutes to find all scattered dice, which, I must confess, have been more fun than playing

How did I do for my first Salamander? Head pauldron took my soul

Not a first painted model - I do have a whole army of Necrons, but this is a very different kind of paintjob. Did as a gift for my friend

How do we beat melee agression armies like WE?

One year in and I feel fairly comfortable facing any attrition, shootout or tricky list. However, I have no idea what to do when my opponent is a runaway train

Usually I would sacrifice a unit or two to prevent opponent Kharn brick, Circle Companions or Crusaders from reaching me turn 1. Issue is, after that I never have enough power to clean then up - so they just keep going

Ammentar is not seen as a threat. He has FF, cool, what you gonna do with those 6 attacks into any kind of invul or just a brick? He gets overrun and slaughtered

Warrior blob feels pointless when every second opponent is capable of oneshotting everything

So. I use Scarabs or Flayed Ones to score missions in the midfield while my main forces stay behind. They get eviscerated, I crawl out to respond and fire everything. Everything is not enough, I get hit with a train. This have been my experience in 10th and it might get worse in 11th

Only way I managed to fight back has been using two C'Tan as a hammer. It does not feel right. But what are our anti-marine weapons anyways?

What to gift my wanna-start-DA friend?

My friend wants to start playing 40K with DA and I thought I could gift him something. Looking for something to add to the combat patrol with dreadnaught, however... I have no idea about space marines past being under heavy bolter fire. So, the secretive ones

Are Deadwing Knights good? Terminator boys

I thought about painting a named model, but which - Asmodai, Ezekil or Azrael?

Some Scarabs, eh? How should I use them, given I do not have Szeras and they seem to be not much without a Cryptek?

Flee, mortals! What is the proper use for Stalker?

It is not survivable. It has Scout, but hard to hide and fit anywhere. It is not scary in terms of output

Best mileage I got from putting it near my blob and standing there menacingly, maybe stripping some cover. It feels like I am missing something

Also am I allowed to put models between legs and maybe even with some parts under overhangs? It has no base which I like, but it does make things less clear

Stand ready for my arrival, Overlord! Fulfill your duty... Exterminate.

Not the pose I really wanted, but shoulders limit leg movement a bit - so I am happy with what I managed to do

Also finally found some use for my old transfer sheets

Now, be a good Overlord and go conquest some worlds - I find this galaxy unprepared for arrival of Infinite Empire. Triarch out.
