I drive a motorcycle (neon green and black naked bike), and a WRX. So I understand I’m a magnet. What I don’t understand is why I’ve had multiple instances of cops doing a U-turn across multi lane main roads with their lights on, as soon as we cross paths going opposite directions. These situations are when I’ve been doing absolutely nothing wrong, and they just “random breath test” me. Other situations I’ve had are them sitting on the road shoulder, then peeling off and following me for some time before turning on their lights. Is that type of thing normal for driving magnet vehicles?

At first it was “oh they’re just checking my plates”. Then it was “that was weird”. Now it’s “I’m being targeted”… although in some situations they 100% hadn’t run my number plate before pulling me over, so I’m not sure how I’m being targeted. Also before this week, I also had zero demerit points and a clean record, so why they’d flag me (if they actually have), has left me bewildered. I’ve never failed a breath test as I don’t drink. No criminal record. Nothing I can think of to interest them THAT much.

Any ideas?

Edit2: to clarify, I’m not having a whinge. I’m legitimately interested in why they’re so immediately and intently interested in breath testing me.

So we have an indoor / outdoor cat, that enjoys spending most of his time outside. We live in a place that’s suitable for this. During his a vet check we made after seeing him in pain, we were told he had a rotten molar and cracked canine; the molar needed to go, and the canine would need to be assessed during surgery to see if pulp was exposed.

We took him in for surgery, and frankly the whole ordeal has been traumatic. He’s been on buprenorphine twice daily and an anti inflammatory pain relief as well. The former has made him very loopy, drowsy, and he doesn’t wven have the energy to get up to pee. He leaked during sleep twice last night, and ruined two couches. We weren’t informed we’d need him indoors for at least 5 days post op, with the possibility of longer. He’s not happy, the house now stinks, and I’m exhausted. I need to literally be glued to his side for him to stop stressing and trying to claw his way out. I haven’t even peed or eaten today and it’s 4pm.

The worst part? After surgery, the vet told us they removed 3 teeth; the molar discussed, and two premolars. We were promised cat would wake up feeling so much better and no longer in pain. When we came to pick him up, they told us the canine pulp WAS exposed, but that would need to be done another time, as “the molar and canine under one anaesthetic would’ve taken too long” before kitty needed to be woken. It wasn’t until I directly stated that exposed pulp in a human is excruciating, that they admitted he’d still be in pain but nowhere near as much as form the severely reported molar. I’m beside myself. I don’t even know whether to trust them that he’ll be in less pain; a decayed adult tooth is painful, but a snapped tooth with exposed pulp is hell.

I can’t even imagine needing to go through this surgery again within a few weeks. Both he and I are so stressed , and my bank account feels like it’s bleeding. I don’t have a car for the next couple of months. I work full time. Se weren’t told until discharge there’d be a follow up appointment in 3 days (so I could take the day off work) and again either 3 or 7 days after that. Surely this isn’t normal? I feel like I’ve been taken advantage of. I work in dentistry for humans and the lack of communication and treatment here would land me in front of the medical board by yesterday. Help?

This might be a bit messy as I’m so tired and stressed, so apologies.

My cat (3M, indoor/outdoor, safe area for this) went in for a dental on Thursday (currently Saturday here). We were not informed of key details on what to expect post surgery. One of those details being that he’d need to be indoors for a week. We expected to watch him indoors for a day or two before letting him in and out again.

We’re currently in a position where cat has leaked pee on two couches due to side effects of buprenorphine and is extremely stressed, wanting to leave the house. He usually uses the furthest end of the yard where we can’t see for litter so I’m not sure if that’s why. Other two cats have needed to be completely separated from him, which is tricky given our open house layout. We’ve had to lock them in carpeted bedrooms which is a mess with kitty litter smell and pellets everywhere as they jump out before cleaning themselves . The cat who just had dental often sits around dazed, just staring instead of sleeping. We have saliva and blood everywhere form his drool and shaking it everywhere (vet said was normal for now. He usually is a very alert cat that stays around the house perimeter for the most part, but now is trying his hardest to run away from us due to the stress we’ve had to put him through. The only way he’ll settle is if I’m sitting right next to him 24/7. It’s 3:30pm and I haven’t peed or eaten because I can’t move.

I’ve just built a catio for him as best as I could given the short notice, but I don’t trust it enough to leave him there all night while I go to sleep or if I duck out to the shop for food. He’s currently sleeping in the tray of soil I brought in for him as a litter, so I don’t know where he’ll go if he needs to pee/poo. My vet pretty much said “that’s how he’ll be till Tuesday”, that the peeing is from him being so tired from the medication, and that we may even need to keep him on it for longer if his Monday check up shows he’s not healing as quickly as she’d like… she eventually said we can lessen the buprenorphine by 0.18mL, as long as he’s taking his anti-inflammatory which is also a pain relief, which he is.

My question is: how normal is this and how useful is the buprenorphine? Is the lessor of two evils to stop this stuff even if he’s in a little more discomfort from his healing but at least more alert and calmer, and safe if he does break out of the catio? He currently can’t even always balance properly when jumping off stuff due to being so loopy. I don’t know what to do, and my housemate has absolutely had it (house stinks like pee, I’m leaving stuff everywhere so I can be glued to cat’s side). I love this cat so much but I also don’t know what to do… I’ve also not slept and am so sick with the flu. Please help me.

Including commuting, I work 60hrs. 5 days per week at: 10hrs + 15hrs + 10 + 15 + 10. I’m exhausted. I’ve asked to transfer from my job that’s a 2hr commute each way, and reduce an hour or so of work, so hopefully the 15s drops to 10. That’s still 50hrs. I work healthcare. I’ve been doing this for years. Today I have the flu so it’s getting to me more. But I’m so over of it.

Does anyone else do crazy hours? How do you cope? Not just “cope” actually, but actually feel like you’re living properly?

I live in Sydney and work on the central coast, and will be unable to drive for the next 3 months (suspended licence by police, not due to demerits). I’m not going to have much of a choice it seems other than public transport everywhere. I’ve heard Gosford station is a bit sketchy at night. How unsafe are we talking? Like quit my good job over it unsafe? Will be leaving Erina by bus at 7-7:30, so I’m guessing an 8pm train from Gosford. Planning to then uber from Strathfield home. Appreciate any advice.

Hey guys so I’m finally planning a trip to Tassie. I have a work conference that I’m flying in a few days early for, and want to take full advantage. I have some non negotiables, and I’d like help with the rest!

This isn’t until October.

Landing: Saturday morning in Launceston.
Leaving: following Sunday midday from Hobart.
Conference: Hobart Thurs, Fri, Sat.
Hotel booked in Hob from Wed night - Sun morning.
Those above points are booked already.

A couple friends live around Launceston that I want to spend time with the first weekend. Saturday one has offered to show me around town. I’d like to sleep at cradle mountain Sat & Sun, hike all day Sunday (friend wants this too) and leave Monday morning to start exploring the rest of Tassie.

I’ve been looking at the map and have some thoughts:

Saturday: explore towns around Launceston region with friend (I’ll let her lead this day, she has some recommendations) & maybe visit Tassie Devil conservation at night

Sunday: long hike / enjoy cradle mountain

Monday:
- wake up early and drive to; Ocean Beach > Macquarie Heads > Queenstown > Lake St Claire > Richmond (sleep here).

Tuesday:
- head to Bruny Island and spend the day there. Not sure whether to sleep here too.

Wednesday:
- hotel already booked in Hobart, but no idea where to go for the day.

To complicate things: I also have a friend from NSW who originally was coming with me, but after some delays for various reasons and putting a hold on being sure on whether they could come, they’re now thinking to meet me Monday and leave Wednesday. I have noooo idea how to tie this into the trip, whether it’s even possible, or if it’ll take some fun out of the trip due to logistics. Eg where do they land? Where will we meet? Will they want to explore Hobart and will that be a waste for me if I’ll be there bc of the conference for 4 nights, or will I be too tied up to explore during those days? Is it advised against driving around any towns alone?

I’d love some help here in planning. I’m not interested in Mona. I love nature, fresh foods, local town experiences, exploring, seeing as much as reasonable, and do appreciate adventure and activities if it’s the place for it. Big bonus points if I can catch something cool like Aurora Australis or Bioluminescent Algae.
