[OC] Painted a "Save the date" fridge magnet for my sister!

It's not much but it's honest work 👌

The dimensions are 5 cm × 5 cm × 1 cm (2" × 2" × 0.4")

I love it even if it's quite bulky for a magnet!

I've finally finished Alice's work and I am now empty

You know when you finish some great work of fiction and you feel this kind of existential dread, so you just try anything you can to keep it going including talking about it with whoever? Yeah so that's what this post is, just me, empty, writing because I don't want to let go my experience of Alice's work

A few weeks ago, I decided to watch the *Heartstopper* series once again in preparation for the movie. It's by far one of my favorite TV shows, and when I finished the last episode, I realized I just wanted more. So I decided to read once again the webcomic, but the same thing happened: I wanted more. So I decided to listen once again to the audiobooks of *This Winter* and *Nick and Charlie*, and yeah, I. wanted. more.

For the context, I had already listened to *I Was Born For This*, because this one and the two novellas are the only audiobooks available in my language. I have a hard time reading because of health issues, and my few attempts at listening to audiobooks in English didn't went well, so yeah, there were no way for me to experience *Solitaire*, *Radio Silence* and *Loveless*

But I needed more. Life has been pretty shit lately, and there's just something so comforting in the way Alice writes characters

So yeah, screw it, I tried again to listen to *Solitaire* in English, and gosh it was *difficult*. It's hard to explain in detail, but I kinda had to fight be able to follow the story. I often needed to go back in time, or search for information in the actual text because I forgot parts of the story, etc. But in the end, I made it. *Solitaire* had been a book I've wanted to read/listen to for years, and I finally did it. And I properly fell in love with the characters of Tori and Michael, which was exactly why I wanted to experience this story in the first place

And now that I was done with *Solitaire*, it was time for *Radio Silence*, which was by far the one I was the most looking forward to. And things felt a little bit easier this time? Partly because the narrator/voice actress was easier to listen to, and I think partly because I was getting used to listening to English audiobooks? Anyway, *Radio Silence* is probably my favorite work of Alice, and Aled is my favorite character. I fell so much in love with this story, and its characters. I finally understand why people were frustrated with the Aled/Isaac replacement in the series: it's has never been about how supposedly important the character was to the *Heartstopper* story, it is about taking every chance possible to get more Aled in one way or another lol

And finally, *Loveless*, the one I've just finished. It's actually the one I was the less interested in for various reasons, and gosh how much it grew on me. There are so much characters that I can relate to in one way or another, so much characters who feel alive. While nothing will probably ever take my love for Aled, Rooney is such a close second. And I actually managed to listen to this one with ease, like, I think I'm really getting used to this now. So, it's not just that I managed to listen to multiple books I really wanted to experience, but I also managed to develop a new skill which will help me with a lot of others books? That's just so nice

Anyway, so yeah, I've been kind of obsessed with Alice's work for the past few weeks, and I'm so glad I experienced all of those novels. A lot of those characters will surely stay with me forever, and I'm sure Alice's future work will be a blast too. (I actually still have to read the extra stories of their website, but this will have to wait for my health to somewhat improve)

I just want to wrap this post with some tops (and if you want to drop yours in the comments, feel free to do so, I'm always interested in those)

Alice's works:

  1. Radio Silence
  2. Heartstopper (TV)
  3. Loveless
  4. Heartstopper (comic)
  5. This Winter
  6. I Was Born For This
  7. Nick and Charlie

Characters:

  1. Aled Last
  2. Rooney Bach
  3. Tori Spring

I'm so dumb (aka how NOT to perfect parry)

For hours now, I've been using that early game armor which boost perfect parries but disable standard parries. The problem is that my timing was always off, I couldn't do any perfect parry, which isn't that surprising since I've always had a bad reaction time

But my timing wasn't actually the problem. No, I had just never unlocked perfect parry, which made that armor near-perfectly useless. I thought perfect parries were when you tap, and standard parries were when you hold, NOT that holding was actually for blocking, tapping for parrying and tapping with an especially good timing to make it perfect

Now that I can actually parry, the game is so much easier

(To be honest, I would prefer it if the game were to signal it if some perk wouldn't work because I'm missing a skill or a weapon or something)

I surprisingly had a really good time with Ender Lilies

Hey

MV is probably my favorite video game genre. Or, should I say, Metroid-like is probably my favorite video game genre

I've been playing MV for a lot of time now, and I've played a lot of them, and if there's one thing I've noticed, it's that I'm way more likely to dislike a game if it's usually described more akin to -vania than metroid-. I'm not trying to create a clear separation between some hypothetical two halves of MV, but when both devs and players talk about MV games, they do tend to exist some differentiation, even if it is a blurry one

In particular, I've tried some igavanias before and they always felt wrong. Same thing for Bloodstained, which surprised me since I really thought that what prevented me from liking classic igavanias was that they were getting old (I'm highly sensible to QoL features, which makes me often dislike games that are more than 15-ish years old, including ones which I liked at that time)

Because of that, I've postponed playing Ender Lilies for a long time. I knew I was going to try it eventually, because it's in the top of a lot of MV-enjoyers and I needed to know more about it, but was also pretty sure I wouldn't put more than 10 hours into it

But yeah, as I said in the title, I had a really good time with the game. The controls were tight, the leveling progression didn't felt like a burden and the weapons actually felt useful and not too gimmicky, and from a general point of view, it's simply a well structured metroidvania. Everything felt good enough for me to actually 100% the base game (didn't try NG+ and what I suppose is a boss rush)

I'm definitely going to play Ender Magnolia when I get the opportunity, but will probably try Afterimage before since it's already in my library. Maybe Ender Lilies will remain an exception as the only -vania which I loved, but for the same reason I eventually played it, I'm definitely going to try some others, and with a little bit more hope than a few weeks ago

Les personnes adoptées ont-elles deux anniversaires ?

Kikoooo

D'alimentation ? De saison ?

Just went west to the hub (Cortex Center), how fucked am I?

Hi, it's me, your average 5 years old who can't stand anything horror, especially in video games

I got the first two seals, and was now heading to the west to mess with the 3rd Sol. What a pleasant surprise I had when I realized this annoying shit seem to probably be horror-themed (there's a little cutscene where a big monstrous face appears in a jumpscare after a little build up in an infinite room)

When I say that I can't stand horror, it's not a joke. With most games, what I saw would be enough for me to drop the game, but damn I really liked Nine Sols until now so I won't do it if I really have to

So, how bad is it going to be? Don't worry about spoiling anything related to the horror elements, I really need to know what's coming. Hide & seek or chase sequences involving some invulnerable-ish enemy are a particularly difficult thing for me, is there one?

Thank you, I really hope I will be able to get through this lol

There are a lot of experiences I don't remember in my life, nothing new there, but my memories of Outer Wilds are the weirdest I have

It's not just that I do tend to forgot my own experiences, it's also that I have spent so much time watching friends or streamers play that everything is now mished together. I often remember moments of my playthrough before realizing that they're actually not mine

It's quite an unusual feeling, since there are no other game or experience that lived that much by proxy

Does somebody else have something similar?
