Pump recommendation

I want to EBF my baby, but right now, I probably don't have enough milk, so I would like to start pumping to increase my supply. My pump doesn't quite fit (it doesn't get much milk out), so I would like to buy a new one. Do you have any recommendations? I want to pump daily, so something practical (but strog enough to really empty the breast) would be great.

Looking forward to any suggestions 🫶

Should I give up breastfeeding?

I'm a FTM of 11 weeks old, and I always knew I wanted to breastfeed my baby. I never even thought there could be a problem. So this is my experience:

I had a great birth, my milk came right after that, and my LO latched immediately. Nevertheless, when we came home on day 3 my midwife told me we should give him a bottle after every feed and I should pump in that time (also told us the feeds should take about 20 minutes and after that we should give the bottle). It was very strange to me because our baby was happy, and I had the feeling the breastfeeding works. But my husband trusted the "experts", so after some discussions, we did it this way. The happiness of these early days disappeared immediately for me as I cried with every bottle. I also didn't understand why we should give him a bottle after 20 minutes when he could continue drinking from me...

After about 3 weeks (me still crying with every bottle), we had a great discussion with my husband, and he finally understood why breastfeeding is so important for me. We quickly decided that we'll try to switch to EBF, which worked out pretty well.

So for the next 3 weeks, I EBF until I got a milk engorgement on one breast, and my LO didn't want to drink there anymore. As he was screaming hungry but didn't want to drink there (and my other breast wasn't enough), we decided to give him a bottle just until the engorgement was sorted. Unfortunately, he developed a preference for the bottle very quickly so I ended up feeding him almost only with formula (on some days it got up to 5 bottles per day, the normal day amount ist 6-8 bottles). I always offered the breast first, but I was more and more devastated when I saw how quickly he got angry on the breast and how happy he was to take the bottle every time... we also started paced bottle feeding at this time to make him less impatient.

As he didn't drink much from me, my milk supply was getting down. But after about a week and a half, I decided to pump for the case he would magically take the breast again in the future. So I have pumped for every bottle since then.

This magical moment came around week 9, and we again managed to reduce the number of bottles until I EBF since a week and a half for now. The baby seems very happy, awake, and has enough wet diapers. Unfortunately, we noticed that he hasn't gained any weight for two weeks. The doctor told us (without examining anything) that I have a low supply and we should give him a bottle every day. I was really angry because I know I have enough milk, but my LO just doesn't take enough to gain weight... I really didn't want to give him a bottle again, but I was also concerned about his health, so we gave him one yesterday every day since.

I feel like he will develop a bottle preference very quickly again. He is 2.5 months now, and we are going to start giving him solids after the 4th month, which seems very soon. I really wanted to EBF, but I don't know if it's worth the effort anymore since the time is getting short, and it has been a huge topic for the entire time since the birth.

Should I give the breastfeeding up? Or should we try again and hope? I'm really out of ideas what more to do... I'll be happy about any suggestions 🫶
