How do you fix dreadfully low self-esteem?

I think I’m dealing with really low self-esteem, and it’s starting to affect the way I behave around other people.
I’ve become extremely self-conscious. I constantly think about how I’m coming across, whether people are judging me, whether I sound stupid, etc. The worst part is that I feel like other people are starting to notice it too, which makes me even more self-conscious.

I’m not looking for generic advice like “just love yourself.” I’m interested in things that actually changed the way you saw yourself and behaved around other people.

Save the cheerleader, save the world… RIP

I literally finished Heroes today and was still thinking about Claire Bennet ;Then I saw the news that Hayden Panettiere died at 36.
There is something incredibly surreal about discovering an actor for the first time through a show you just finished, only to find out they’ve passed away almost immediately afterward.
RIP Hayden. Claire Bennet was such an iconic character, and now finishing Heroes feels strangely different. 🕊️

I read the Heroes plot through a Carl Jung lens

Maybe Heroes is not only about humans evolving biologically, but psychologically. The characters inherit not just powers, but unresolved conflicts from their parents. Their journey is not simply discovering what they can do, but separating from the psychological world their parents created and becoming individuals.

Jung wrote, ‘Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.’ Watching Heroes through this lens, the powers are almost secondary. The real story is about characters becoming conscious of hidden parts of themselves, their family legacies, and their Shadows.

I see it as the major theme…

I Spent Years Thinking This Was a Dream… It Was Actually Heroes

When I was around 9 or 10, I used to watch this series that felt completely unreal. It wasn’t just a normal show to me, it felt like something between reality and a dream. The atmosphere, the characters, the way the story unfolded… everything had this strange, almost surreal tone.

For years, I genuinely thought it was just a dream I had as a kid.

The memories were so fragmented, just flashes of scenes, emotions, and this constant feeling of mystery, that I couldn’t place it as something real.

But recently, I found it again.

It was Heroes

And suddenly everything clicked.

Watching it now, I realize why it affected me so deeply. It wasn’t just about people with powers, it was about identity, destiny, and how ordinary people deal with something extraordinary happening to them.

Characters like Peter, Hiro, and Sylar weren’t just “cool,” they were psychologically intense in a way I didn’t understand back then, but definitely absorbed. The whole idea that people are connected, that small actions matter, that you might be more than you think… that stayed with me.

I think that’s why it felt like a dream. Because I didn’t fully process it at that age, so my brain stored it more as emotion and atmosphere than as a clear memory.

Finding it again feels like reconnecting with a hidden layer of my childhood, and honestly, a hidden part of how I started seeing the world.

Has anyone else had *Heroes* (or any other show) hit them like this as a kid?

Like it didn’t just entertain you… it quietly shaped how you think?

When You Realize Forever Was Never Real

I once asked my father: what is the first real tragedy a human experiences?
He said:
It’s the moment loss reaches out its hand to someone you believed would stay forever and you realize, too late, that forever was never real.
I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately

“If you don’t act like you deserve it, don’t complain about not getting it” still echoes in my head

A friend once told me, “Don’t take this the wrong way, but if you don’t act like you deserve something, you can’t complain about not getting it.”
That honestly woke me up. It’s been almost two months and it’s still stuck in my head.
I love talking to her because she doesn’t give cliché comfort or empty reassurance. She actually gives perspective. And I think that’s what I need, because I know I don’t see myself from all angles. She somehow does.

Seeking a depth-oriented, Any depth / psychodynamic therapists here open to a new client?

Hey everyone! On a throwaway for privacy. I’m looking to start therapy online (no good fit where I live and cant afford one), and I’d love to connect with a psychologist or psychoanalytic therapist who’s into psychoanalysis/ psychodynamic work and open to taking someone on.
If that’s you or you know someone I’d be really glad to hear from you. I tend to be slow to trust, so a patient, unhurried style means a lot to me. Happy to chat details (language, timezone) over DM. Thanks so much!

I can face death at work but I can’t face it at home

My grandmother is dying from a terminal illness.

I see death almost every day in the hospital. I’ve stood beside patients in their final moments and comforted grieving families. I thought repeated exposure would make me stronger.

But nothing prepared me for this.

When it’s your own family, all the professional distance disappears. The knowledge doesn’t help. The experience doesn’t help. You’re just a grandchild watching someone you love slip away, and it hurts more than words can describe.

I see death every day but I can’t bear this one.

I feel so weak💔

Has anyone struggled with feeling invisible at work when a colleague is more conventionally attractive?

I’ve noticed that people often approach, ask for help from, or engage more with a colleague of mine who is very attractive. What’s difficult is that I can’t stop comparing myself. No matter how much effort I put into my work, I sometimes feel ignored or overlooked.

Intellectually, I know there are many factors involved, but emotionally it’s hard not to wonder whether appearance influences how people respond to us. Have others experienced this? How did you deal with the feelings of resentment, inadequacy, or being unseen without letting it affect your confidence or relationships at work?
