Solo Travel: Hotpot

Hello! Next month I’m taking a solo trip to Chengdu, Chongqing, and Guiyang, hotpot is definitely high of my list of things to try.

How is it getting hotpot as a solo traveller? I know it’s geared towards group dining, but would I be okay doing it solo?

% Arabica Coffee, any good?

Has anyone been to %Arabica Coffee? Is it any good or just trendy?

I’m heading to China next month and saw the cafe mentioned in a video on Kuanzhai Alley in Chengdu. I’ve never heard of them before, looks like they’re in almost every major city in China. (and lots of international locations)

Bathroom access in China- ulcerative colitis

Hey all, I’m going to China next month (Chengdu, Chongqing, and Guiyang) and I’d like some tips/help with bathroom access.

I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis about while back, and though it’s well managed and under control, traveling and new food, routines, schedules might make it act up.

Where is it common to find free public restrooms? I understand that I should carry some toilet paper with me. Is it common for food establishments to have restrooms?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Best museums Chengdu/Chongqing/Guiyang

Hello all, we will be visiting Chengdu, Chongqing, and Guiyang next month and want to hear your recommendations for museums!

I hear the Sanxingdui Musum outside Chengdu mentioned often, and the Three Gorges Museum in Chongqing.

I also really like modern/contemporary art, MoMa PS1 is one of my favorite museums!

Any recommendations would be much appreciated!

This is my suitcase, will I be fine to bring this to China or should the stickers be removed? I’m sure I’m overthinking it, just want to be safe.

First trip to Dollywood! Perfect last day at the park!

Just went to Dollywood for the first time! I absolutely loved it. Stayed at DreamMore and it was lovely.

My final day at the park was awesome, I was there all morning and afternoon and took a break and went back to the resort in the evening. Went back to the park around 8:15pm. At 8:25 I was at Thunderhead, then did Big Bear Mtn, Wild Eagle, Tennessee Tornado, and Lightning Rod all before the park closed at 9:30! It was an awesome end to a Dollywood trip.

DW Pros: it has the ambiance and hospitality of Disney, with the thrills of Cedar Point. Resorts are amazing. Food is FANTASTIC (shout out to pork plate at Front Porch, smoked bologna burnt ends, and everything at Wilderness Pass), great shopping.

DW Cons: very few, ops on the coasters are SLOWWW, and I wish there was some quicker way out from Wildwood Grove

Here’s my DW top 5 coasters:

  1. Tennessee Tornado- I’ve never been on an arrow like it, I love doing a little cannon ball on that first drop, and the loop is awesome

  2. Wild Eagle- I love wing coasters, and this one is a lot of fun!

  3. Lightning Rod- so much fun, especially at night. Rode it last on all three nights I was at Dollywood. I just don’t love the first drop and the painfully slow ops.

  4. Thunderhead- a really fun and exciting GCI!

  5. Big Bear Mtn- a great family coaster, I love how it interacts with Wildwood Grove!

Coffee shops in China

Hello all, I’ll be going to China in September and am very much coffee person. I have a question regarding coffee shops in China:

Is it common to find dairy alternatives? (Soy, almond, oat, coconut milk, etc). I’m not lactose intolerant but I have ulcerative colitis so dairy sometimes bothers me.

How would I ask for dairy alternatives in Mandarin? Im skeptical of just typing “plant milk” in Google Translate.

Any help would be much appreciated!

If you had to do only one day trip from Chengdu, what would you do and why? (Excluding the Panda base)

Hey all, I’m interested to hear what yall have to say about day trips from Chengdu. What you all recommend? What were your favorites? If you had to choose one what would it be?

Leshan, Mt Emei, Mt Qingcheng, Dujiangyan, etc, feel free to recommend ones that aren’t common too!

BTW I’m planning on visiting Wulong Karst out of Chongqing if that helps with your Chengdu suggestions!

Birthday in Chengdu

Hey all! I’m going on a solo trip to China in the middle of September and I’ll be in Chengdu for my bday!!

Anything special I can do? Any place that y’all can recommend for some cake? Any chains do discounts or special offers?

As of now I have nothing planned, I might spend the day in the Yulin (Fanghua Street) area, that seems very much my vibe- coffee, tea, shopping, strolling. Though I might got to Happy Valley too, as I’m a “thoosie”.

I’m curious to hear what you all would recommend!

Britney Spears lyrics in Disco Elysium!!

In the conversation with noid in the church about hardcore one of the options is the lyrics to the chorus of “Till the World Ends” by Britney Spears.

I LOVE Britney, and it’s cool to see my two interests cross!

Help with after hours hotel arrival in Chengdu

Hello everyone,

I’m going to Chengdu in September and I have my eye on a certain hotel: Cat Hotel (Chengdu Chuanda Wangjiang Campus Subway Station Store)

https://www.trip.com/w/1hBDLsu3PV2

Trip.com says the lobby is staffed until 23:30, and after that they have self check-in kiosks, but a few of the reviews mention that the kiosks do not accept foreign passports/guests.

My flight arrives at Chengdu at 23:00

Should I just find another hotel? Any suggestions?

LGBTQ+ at Cedar Point

I would like to share/vent about my experiences going to Cedar Point as a queer person…

I go solo to Cedar Point at least once a year. I think I am a visibly queer man, I am not a particularly masculine person when it comes to mannerisms or dress.

I usually encounter a couple incidents each visit where people make some kind of comment, though never directed at me personally. Usually it comes from groups of younger guys that make comments/jokes where gayness is the joke. Some examples have been people yelling “I love it up the butt” on coaster trains, referring to things as being “gay”, and using the work “f*ggot”. Again none of those have been directed towards me personally, but it’s still is frustrating to hear people make queerness the joke.

Also I’ve noticed an increase in language like that the last few seasons that I’ve been.

I’m interested to hear from other queer park goers on how your experience has been.

Prices are Outrageous! When did they become this expensive?

$175 for Fast Lane Plus!? That’s ridiculous.

Am I trippin or did it used to be $100ish?!

I went on May 12 so a few coasters were closed still so I felt like it was necessary to get Fast Lane to make the most of the day. $175 is wild.

First time at Hotel Breakers

So I stayed at Breakers for the first time and I didn’t love it.

I booked it because it was less than $100 more than Cedar Point express, so I thought why not!

**pros**

- the drive around the peninsula is awesome, I’ve never seen the coasters from those angles before!

- the common areas of the property are gorgeous

- the bar, Starbucks, restaurants, and gift shop are nice to have all on property, and they’re open later than the park

**cons**

- the rooms are incredibly basic, the beds don’t seem any different than CP Express

- the hall ways are dated, and the carpets are horrendous

- personally I do not think it was that convenient, the distance I had to walk from the Magnum entrance to my room was far, it was probably about the same distance or even more than it would take to walk from the main gate to my car, and it’s definitely not worth what’s usually hundreds of dollars more to save you a two minute drive to CP Express.

I enjoyed my stay but I don’t think I would stay again unless it was around the same price as CP Express.
