I am seeing more unsw students in quant firms than usyd and unimelb, is this due to a selection bias of firms over unsw or survivorship bias i.e. more students focused in this space go to unsw than usyd or umelb

Hey everyone,
I’ve been looking into BH073 at RMIT and I’m kinda stuck trying to figure out whether it’s actually worth doing long term or not.
The course looks interesting and pretty flexible, but I can’t really tell what people end up doing after graduating. Like is it one of those degrees where you genuinely get good opportunities, or do most people end up struggling to find solid work after uni?
A few things I’m wondering about:
What jobs do BH073 grads usually get into
Is the employability decent in Australia?
Are internships hard to get during the degree?
Does the degree actually lead to good salaries/career growth?
Would I be better off doing a more specialised degree instead?
I’m mainly trying to build a career that has:
good pay, solid future demand, decent work-life balance and opportunities to grow internationally later on.
Would love honest opinions from people studying it, graduates, or anyone who knows people from the course. Cheers 🙏

Doing mech eng at RMIT and been looking into data centres lately, mainly the cooling side and HVAC stuff.
Just wondering if there’s actually a decent path into that industry from mechanical engineering or if I’m cooked and should look elsewhere 😂
Seems like heaps of data centres are getting built with all the AI shit going on, so surely cooling’s gonna be massive here too? Just dunno what the market’s actually like in Aus.
Anyone here working in the industry reckon there’s good opportunities long term? And what sort of stuff should I start learning now if I wanna get into it later on?

I’m trying to decide between Monash and UQ for mechanical engineering and I’m honestly stuck.
A bit about my situation:
International student
I have family in Melbourne, so if I go to Monash I can stay with them and save on rent
If I choose UQ, I’ll have to move to Brisbane and pay for accommodation + living
From what I’ve seen so far:
Monash
Seems more intense academically
Strong engineering reputation
Located in Melbourne (which I think has more job/internship opportunities?)
UQ
Feels a bit more balanced from what people say
Good facilities and practical exposure
Brisbane seems more chill overall
My main priorities are:
Towards oil and LNG and aerospace industry
Not completely burning out
Keeping costs reasonable
I guess my main questions are:
Is Monash actually that much harder than UQ?
Does UQ really have better industry exposure or is it similar?
If you were in my position (family in Melbourne), would that make Monash the obvious choice?
Would appreciate any advice from people studying there or who’ve graduated. Thanks!
