Outpatient RDs- how do you monitor for refeeding in the outpatient setting for a patient with a newly-placed feeding tube? They are often not in the hospital for long, so you are not able to monitor labs daily. Or do you leave it to the inpatient team?

This is kind of a random question, but do you prefer managing tube feeding inpatient or outpatient? I started working in outpatient oncology and I find TF management kind of overwhelming in this setting.

I have an outpatient oncology enteral patient who says he has difficulty giving himself 5 xartons a day because it leaves him no time to rest. His son was asking about continuous feeds. Do you think insurance would approve a pump for this reason?
