Car insurance in Atlanta is just a nightmare! How did you survive adding a teen driver without going broke?

We added our 16yo, and that has been $300+ extra per month. That's more than our car payment! Other Alpharetta parents, what carriers actually gave you reasonable teen rates?

Did any of the good student or defensive driving discounts make a real dent? It will help to know these discount stacks work before I commit to anything. This can't be the going rate for everyone.

WARNING: Staff at Adora Learning Academy (Alpharetta, GA) was charged with felony child cruelty after slamming a 2-year-old to the floor — owner refuses refund and has shown no accountability

We enrolled our two year old son at Adora Learning Academy in Alpharetta and experienced a deeply disturbing situation involving a staff member that occurred in October 2025.

The teacher involved was charged with a felony of child cruelty and a misdemeanor of aggravated battery. The police, DECAL, and DFACS investigated and substantiated the incident. DECAL fined Adora and described the incident as our child "was roughly handled when a staff member grabbed the child by both arms and slammed the child to the floor, resulting in a minor head injury that required professional medical attention." The incident was captured on video. Even so, Adora's director initially attempted to downplay the incident and describe it in a misleading way. Before our incident, we had no idea that DECAL previously found  Adora "staff failed to provide adequate supervision in the three-year-old classroom when a child inappropriately touched another child" related to another incident in 2025.

What has been most troubling beyond the incident itself is the owner's complete lack of accountability or remorse. He has been unresponsive to our family throughout this process, except for his refusal to refund tuition based on Adora's withdrawal requirement that the family give 30 days' notice.

I am sharing this because, as a mom, I believe parents deserve to know before entrusting their children to this facility—we certainly wish we knew before we enrolled our child. I strongly recommend avoiding this place as an option for your childcare needs, as safety and overall well-being do not seem to be priorities. For any parent thinking of enrolling your child at this facility, please do your research and know that it 1) is not quality rated, 2) does not carry insurance, and 3) has a history. You can find review this information on the publicly available DECAL website at https://families.decal.ga.gov/ChildCare/Search.

Alpharetta chose kindergarten tackle football over middle school Flag Football- fair or foul?

With NAFL,the only youth football rec League in Alpharetta, Flag Football stops in the 5th grade and there's no option for kids to play around here afterwards.

There dozens of parents ( at least enough for 6 teams) that wanted to keep it going in middle school and there was an opportunity for NAFL to finally start a middle school 6th grade league - instead they chose to put pads on 4/5-year-olds and let them run into each other.

Someone please make this make sense for me.

How do people survive $25 drinks at Ameris Bank Amphitheatre? No bars nearby — what’s your game plan for a rock concert?

Going to a show at Ameris this summer (Godsmack/Evanescence) and I’m already dreading the venue pricing. $25 for a cocktail is genuinely unhinged and unlike a downtown venue, there’s nothing walkable around Encore Pkwy before the show.

So what do you all actually do? Asking for real strategies, not just “drink before you go” — I know that one.

Specifically curious about:

•	Is there a tailgating culture in the parking lots there and do they actually enforce it?
•	Do they check sealed water bottles at entry? What about those collapsible flasks?
•	Any restaurants or bars close enough to grab a couple drinks before walking in ?
•	Is it worth buying a drink package in advance or is that still robbery?
•	Do they pour heavy enough that one $25 drink does real work, or is it a weak pour in a plastic cup?

Rock concert crowd, so I’m assuming the vibe is more lenient than a pop show but curious what the security situation actually looks like at this venue.

Appreciate any Ameris veterans dropping knowledge.

What is this section of Ameris Bank amphitheater?

Circled in orange. I usually get lawn seats and see people sitting/standing on this deck in the middle back of the lawn but it looks like it’s restricted access. Is it part of some ticket package/upgrade?

Pilates

Hi,

I’m looking for a Pilates studio in the Newtown or North Point area. I understand that space is limited but I’m a little put off by the waitlists. I work downtown so I’m looking for a class that is in the 5-7pm range and on the weekends. How much do the waitlists move? I don’t want to pay $200+ a month and not be able to get into classes. There is a Club Pilates near me but their waitlists are really long.

Thank you!

What’s really happening in the Alpharetta real estate market right now?

I’m curious what everyone is seeing in Alpharetta right now because the market feels very different depending on the price point, neighborhood, and condition of the home.

From the latest market data, Alpharetta is not exactly “crashing,” but it is definitely more selective than it was a few years ago. Zillow shows Alpharetta had 368 homes for sale at the end of April 2026, with a median list price around $714,950 and homes going pending in about 38 days. Redfin’s March 2026 data showed a median sale price around $724K, down year over year, with homes taking about 43 days to sell. Movoto reported an April 2026 median sale price closer to $799K and about 41 days on market, so the exact numbers vary by source, but the trend is pretty clear: buyers have more choices, and overpriced homes are sitting longer.

What I’m noticing is that the best homes are still getting attention, especially if they are updated, well-located, and priced correctly. But buyers are being much pickier. They are comparing homes more carefully, watching interest rates, and pushing back on price when a home needs updates or feels overpriced.

For sellers, I think the biggest mistake right now is pricing based on what a neighbor got in 2021 or 2022. That market is gone. Today’s buyers are looking at value, condition, layout, schools, commute, and monthly payment all at once.

For buyers, this may actually be a better market than people realize. There is more inventory, less panic, and more room to negotiate on some homes. But the good ones still move, so waiting too long on the right property can still cost you.

My take: Alpharetta is still one of the stronger North Atlanta markets, but it is no longer a market where every listing sells instantly just because it is in Alpharetta. Strategy matters again.

What are you all seeing? Are homes in your neighborhood still moving quickly, or are you noticing more price reductions and longer days on market?

Where to buy coriander/cilantro root?

This is wild shot in the dark, but does anyone know where I might be able to get my hands on coriander root? I've stopped by a few of our local Indian / SE Asian groceries, but no luck. Buford Farmer's Market is my usual last ditch spot for random ingredients, but I still came out empty handed.

Anyone know of a spot I might have overlooked?

Mailbox #3 RIP

Sunday 7am

Instead of a hit-and-run, it sure would be nice if you would stop to at least offer to pay for all this damage.

This was not vandalism. This was most likely texting and driving. It was not hit from the street side. It was hit from the inside. They came all the way into the yard.

I have a case number with Milton PD. I’m sure it doesn’t matter, but the last two times they told me to always call it in.
I’m just so frustrated three mailboxes. Only one was from vandalism.

Trees downed in the median on Old Milton

WTF. Heading in to Avalon after about a weeks gap and all of Old Milton’s medians lie bare from Kimball bridge on.

Is Old Milton seeing an expansion ? Alpharetta is going to cook if all the green cover is lost.

Sold out show at Ameris

I was wondering if anyone has experienced the lawn during a sold out show. I went last year but the show was not sold out and there was so much open space! I'm taking a 6-year-old so just want to know what to expect there. Are they packing it in like sardines or will there be room to sit?

I made a short film about an Asian teen hustling people on LA courts by leaning into stereotypes - it just dropped on Omeleto

Growing up outside Atlanta, basketball was everything to me. But no matter how much I loved the game, I could always feel people sizing up my Asian face - assuming I was good at math, bad at sports.

So I made a film about it. It's a 10-minute comedy about three teens in LA who hustle people on the basketball court by leaning into stereotypes. Think "White Men Can't Jump" but with an Asian lead.

It officially dropped on Omeleto today. As an indie creator, the first 24 hours matter a lot! If you have 10 minutes, it would mean the world - likes and comments help a ton too.

Looking for friends

I am a 42 yr old female, and been in Alpharetta for 6 months. I am home a lot due to my Cystic Fibrosis, but I am also a big gamer, arts and crafts, like to explore the world, nature, historical places, shopping and would love a friend to talk with online and hopefully hangout in person. I hope it’s ok to list all this, as I am very open, friendly and open to diversity and interests of all kinds. 💜

Liberal Jesus

Any recommendations for (less conservative) churches? My wife and I are looking for a congregational home for our family. Somewhere that would be accepting of gay folks without making them feel like a project that needs to be fixed.
Not looking to spark an argument and thank you in advance for your response!
