
Supreme Court: Breach of promise to marry may constitute psychological violence
Hinatulang guilty ng Supreme Court 1st Division ang isang lalaki dahil sa pagdudulot ng psychological violence, sa ilalim ng Republic Act No. 9262 o ang "Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act," sa kaniyang buntis na kasintahan.
Kasunod ito ng pag-atras ng lalaki sa marriage license application nila ng kaniyang fiancée.
Pinagtibay ng SC ang naunang desisyon ng Regional Trial Court at Court of Appeals sa kaso.
"His 'willful' withdrawal of the marriage license — knowing the victim was pregnant and had already announced the union constitutes a form of emotional manipulation and public humiliation that fits the definition of psychological violence," saad sa desisyon ni Associate Justice Ramon Paul Hernando.
