Suspect - do I need to worry?

40yo male, near-sighted. I recently went in for a routine eye exam to renew my contacts. The Dr I had been seeing changed practices and so this was a new one. The Dr. kept asking about family history of glaucoma (which I have none) and at the end indicated that I was considered a Glaucoma Suspect due to my large optic nerve. My eye pressure came in at 17/18 so normal, but I’m naturally freaking out.

She asked that I come back in 6 months…..is it worth it to see a specialist to rule out any other risk factors?

Thanks in advance!

How do you regulate/police the food that your children eat?

Update: Thank you for all the guidance and reinforcement. I know that my wife and I need to be more forceful with my MIL. She has had numerous discussions with her on this topic, but she clearly hasn’t taken this seriously.

So point blank, my kids eat too many sweets. At their most recent check ups, both of my children (11 year old boy and 8 year old girl) were considered obese and their pediatrician wanted to check their blood sugar for pre-diabetes warning signs.

Some main causes I think it boils down to:

  1. My son has autism and throughout his life adults in our family have constantly appeased him with sweets and snacks. He also has a very restrictive diet for what he will eat.
  2. My daughter, who is not autistic, reaps the rewards from be an indirect recipient of all of the snacks and sweets her brother receives.
  3. My parents and my MIL live within a 5 minute drive to our house. My MIL brings over cookies, cake, pies, etc., on a weekly basis even though we’ve expressed our health concerns for their weight.

On a weekly basis, I would say that they get a dessert at least daily.

Needless to say I’m extremely disappointed and feel extremely guilty especially since I try to eat healthy, keep healthy foods in the house, and maintain a generally active lifestyle.

My wife has tried her best and I feel like we are on the same page, but sometimes even she will give into their wants, for instance allowing them to each buy an entire bag of chips for a 4 hour car ride on vacation. And just yesterday they went to a museum and HAD to stop in the store afterwards to get candy.

I really am looking for some ideas on how to politely enforce limits to candy and sweets in our house. Admittedly I was not the healthiest eating kid when I was their age though I was involved more so in sports.

I am also open the possibility that I am just being a control freak jerk lol

TLDR - kids are overweight, grandparents and sometimes wife are not helpful, looking for ideas on how to politely police what my kids eat so they don’t have unhealthy childhoods.
