Dividend Income Taxed at Fixed 10%

The Supreme Court has upheld that dividend income received by companies is taxed at the fixed 10% rate under Section 5, not the normal 35% corporate rate. It dismissed nine FBR petitions against firms including Fauji Foundation and Fauji Fertilizer, confirming an earlier Islamabad High Court ruling in taxpayers' favor. The court held Section 5 is a separate charging provision for dividends that cannot be overridden by the general "income from other sources" rule.

For PSX and mutual fund investors, this is a positive, clarifying ruling: it protects companies, holding companies, and mutual funds from a much higher 35% tax on dividend income they receive, preserving the economics of cross-holdings and inter-corporate dividends. It removes a major tax uncertainty long contested by FBR.

9186 PRC using nsave

Hi fellow freelancers,

Has anyone gotten a 9186 PRC using nsave? If yes, that's the process of getting it?

Additionally, which payment gateways are you using and which has been the most reliable?

TIA

Becoming a Filer 2026 - Need Guidance

I've been freelancing for a few years now, and recently got into PSX investing too.

I'm currently a non-filer, but 1% tax is already being deducted on my freelance income, and tax was also deducted automatically on some PSX dividends I recently received. So since I'm already paying, I figured it makes sense to actually become a filer now.

I just don't know where to start:

  • Should I try doing this myself, or is it better to hire an accountant?
  • I've read that your first tax return is really important to get right, so I want to be careful and not mess it up.
  • I've already made an account on IRIS, just not sure what to do next.

Would really appreciate any guidance and advice. Thanks!

How to get 0.25% tax deduction on IT remittance

I am using ElevatePay to transfer USD to my UBL Freelancer account. I am getting correct 9186 PRC which falls under IT Remittance.

Now, UBL is charging me 1% Witholding tax, when it should be 0.25% since I am registered with PSEB. How can I get it corrected with UBL?

I am currently a non-filer. Do I need to become a filer first to get it reduced to 0.25%? Looking for some insights. Thankyou.
