One is Two, the merged departure I've been working on!

Hi there!

As the title may suggest, I am currently busy transmuting 2003 & Brotherhood's early episodes into one glorious monstrosity.

I hoped for someone else to do it, but since it didn't happen (or I missed it?)... If you want something, do it yourself :D

The title is a nod to "All is one, on is all", and... well, it starts as one story then splits in two later on. You get it, right? RIGHT?

I started to condense some animes and TV shows I like into movies for myself -to burn them on blurays- not too long ago. I'm pretty sure One is Two would interest someone else!

An important bit of info: japanese audio only.

I'm not interested in doing other audios. I'm french, watch my animes in jap, my tv shows in english etc, with subs.

I could go on a rant about how I dislike dubs but... let's not do that 😑 And more important, I would have to spend I don't know how many dozens extra hours.
Spare me, please.
I get why some prefer with their audio language, but that's too much for me.

What I will provide for as much people as possible to enjoy are subtitles in plenty languages! English and french are easy, I speak both and have access to the original subtitles. But for the other languages, I had to rely on AI (artificial intelligence, not Alphonse).

German, English, Arabic, Bulgarian, Chinese — Simplified and Traditional, Korean, Croatian, Danish, Spanish — Spain and Latin America, Estonian, Filipino / Tagalog, Finnish, French, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malay, Maltese, Dutch, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese — Portugal and Brazil, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Swedish, Czech, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese.
I'd like to know if, outside of french and english, the subtitles are ok to you or if it's a total joke. I'd really like feedback on that.

If you are against AI in any way, shape or form, I'm really sorry, I can't do better because: hypothyroidism.
For the past 15 years, my life has been set to Hard Mode (well... it's the 2nd, most recent Hard Mode I've been put through, but let's keep the sobbing story for another time).
Can you picture how you feel when wake up after a too long / too little sleep? That's the state I'm stuck in, everyday, each second of each day passing. It'd look like you've been put into some constant hibernation state, physically and mentally, with lower body temperature and all. Not a good time.
I discovered AIs -the typical ChatGPT or Claude- roughly 6 to 8 months ago, I am now using it as an auxiliary brain. Sort of a teacher that will not get tired of me asking the same thing again and again 🙄

I've been working on this edit since August 26th, so a lil more than a month. I roughly have 10 hours done in Resove.

From the beginning to Rush Valley. More specifically:

-Movie 1: Liore -> Yous Well -> Xenotime (mandatory for 2003, and to provide lore around other Stone's attempts for Brotherhood, if anything) -> Bardo (yea I called him that) on the train -> Hughes asking Mustang how such young boy became state alchemist -> childhood -> Ed become state alchemist broho vers. -> train to Liore.
It ends where it starts, HAH! The circle is complete, perfect!

-Movie 2: a few shenanigans with the cat (to provide context for Broho and the lil panda later on) and Black Hayate -> Scar's introduction -> Ed&Al report to Mustang -> Shou Tucker (Ed&Al spend some time here) -> Barry -> Scar attack -> Back to Resembool -> Marcoh Broho ver. -> Repair at Resembool -> Library -> Oh no, the ingredient is Ningen!

-Movies 3: one for 2003, one for Broho. It's a first clear split. 5th lab then hospital, with an extra hour for 2003. Both ends at Hughes' unfortunate promotion.

-Movie 4: The last merged movie. Hughes and Mustang early times in the army -> Hughes waving at Ed in the train -> Rush Valley. It's a short movie.

-Movies 5: the definitive split. That's where I'm at in the edit.

It is worth mentioning that I used u/TheGamingSiri 's first episode of their FMA Re:Edited; the two sentences at the very beginning where Ed does the narration instead of Al, and Rose going out of Al to confront Cornello -the perfect transition from 2003 to Broho! I didn't just drop it as is tho.
Thanks for your work u/TheGamingSiri !

On the Bardo train, I kept Hughes going on about Gracia because it's a fun bit, but it breaks the chronology. Annoying, definitely (it will bug me till the end of times). The alternative I see would be redoing dialogues with IA, but no idea how to do that.
I heavily took inspiration of the Bardo train part from Johker's "fan-kai" edit, from the french "Team Kai". I knew he did a great job so I didn't think twice. I redid every shot tho.

I removed many mentions of the place the action is taking in early on. Central? East City/HQ? Who knows!... They always happen to all be at the same place, anyway. It's back at around the end of the 2rd movie, when Mustang is about to be promoted to Central.
Same as with the 2003 timeline. Holy hell, it took me and I'm not kidding you, two decades, to understand Al is the narrator because he explains Rose whatever happened to them at the end of episode 2. So ep3 to 12 is a flashback. But in this flashback there's another flashback. Oh and between episode 6 and 13, 2~3 years went by.
So I sorted that out. The only flashback is their childhood, and no narrator.

There are a few (mostly visual) inconsistencies, as expected.
Is Armstrong's jacket green or black? Is Winry's headscarf pink or dark green? Is the dress blue & black or white & gold? The answer is yes.
Is Ed wearing his black vest?... Probably?

I'm mostly learning on the fly how to do all that. Things like editing a scene frame by frame (screenshots 2 and 3) are EXHAUSTING 😂

If I had all the time in the world, I'd do it as perfectly as possible. But the ratio time spent/result is getting ridiculous past what I did already.
Despite that, overall I'm pretty happy with the result!

But you tell me :D

I assume the moderation refuses direct links to these kind of edits so they can't be held liable if a rights owner decide to go berserk? So I made a temporary sub https://www.reddit.com/r/FMA1is2/ where you can grab the movies already done. Sub that I'll delete later on, when the whole "One is Two" is done.
I briefly checked on how to get an account for that site that sounds like a cat noise so I could share the end package, but it sure sounds like a whole adventure in itself 😭

Anyway! The 2nd movie is on its way! It's going through the AV1/X265 mixer as we speak, I'll have to do the subtitles next. It should be available in, roughly, 2 days?

If you want your Steam Controller (SC) to change the buttons layout when a non Steam game is launched, you have to add it WITH "add a non Steam game".

My problem is... I don't want to launch non Steam games through Steam.
I use Playnite for that. The Steam library is not the worst there is, it's the next best thing even, but Playnite is simply better.

I definitely intend to grab a SC in 2 days. I've been using reWASD so far. With the synergy between Steam Input and the SC I'd like to ditch reWASD. reWASD is good, gets the job done, but is sometimes a bit clunky.
However, reWASD hooks deeper and can detect any game or software running and change the controller layout. Better than what Steam offer.

I'd like an optional "add-on", installer or function you turn on in the parameters, for Steam, that does just that so we wouldn't need to add non Steam games to its library, it'd just know when a specific process is running and apply the corresponding controller layout.

I like to use the d-pad instead of the left stick.
I remember the first game which forced its use over the d-pad: GTA3. Never could adapt to it. Too bad for me, heh.

But apparently, the Steam Controller had a precise d-pad. So, suitable for fighting games and platformers too!
