BFS reels

Lately I see a lot of great comments about the Ark Gravity Avid as an excellent BFS reel.

What other reels in this price range are also worth considering?

Too many choices.

As a relatively new fisherman I feel like a kid in a candy store.
The waters around here offer a lot of species (LMB, SMB, Rock Bass, Bluegill and various sunfish, yellow perch, trout, pikeminnow and Peamouth.

I also have a lot of lures of various sorts that have been promised to “slay” any and all of these fish.
The problem is working up the discipline to winnow down my gear to target just a single species like bass or sunfish or trout.
Something like a spinner claims to be effective on those three species yet I can fish for hours and not get anything and I begin to think i need to switch baits to one targeted for a single species. Then I wonder if I switched to a bait that is missing the species that is actually biting.
I go home skunked, wondering if I made the wrong choices and outsmarted myself.

I guess I need to just make the game into “Two lures, two locations “ and I either win that game or not.

Jig heads

I see round head jigs, Ned jig heads, EWG med jigs and so on.

It seems to me that a Ned jig head can actually do the job of the round head for the most part.

I get that the flatter head may not drag as smoothly as a round head or a swim jig head but it would still work I think.

How do you choose jig heads?

First Peamouth

Never seen one but was told they are in our river.
Hit a spinner hard and gave a good fight.
The river is a single hook, barbless rule water so he let himself off in the net.

One fish day keeps the skunk away

First time using a Ned rig and got this little guy.
Thanked him for his service and let him go.
I think I will be using the Ned for a while to get the feel of it.

Can’t seem to find a ‘27 in this color anywhere near me.
I really miss the great palette they had back in gen 1 days.
Habanero is the only color I want.

I have a Honda CR-V in silver ( wanted red, wife said no) it is nearly impossible to find in a parking lot with everything painted as if for a black and white film.

BTW, the wife now agrees red was the right choice.

I currently use 6lb braid to a 4lb flouro leader. In most cases everything is great and I can fling tiny 1/32 lures a long way.

The problem is that I occasionally get wind knots or the line loops around a guide on the cast.

Would 8lb braid help or are there things I can do to minimize the knots on the 6lb?
