My landlord is trying to steal the bodega cat

Hey there all - local Bushwick man here with a bit of a conundrum. I walked into my home today and my landlord offered me a cat. More specifically the bodega's cat. It's a kitten they've been let roam around (I disagree with that choice), but it has a collar. It's white, grey tail and seen around Myrtle.

My landlord has become obsessed with it, and we've noticed that he's been feeding it and putting the food closer and closer to the door. Today, my wife stepped in tuna walking out of the house. So I come inside and the cat is in our hallway, and he said "hey man you want this cat? If not im giving it to my friend." I said "I don't think that's your cat to give, it belongs to the bodega". He then went into a long rant about how if they cared so much it would be here (he's been baiting it with food), and that it's not safe on the road (again, his fault because he's baiting it). I told him, "Bud, it's your life- and i'm not gonna tell you what to do, but don't go snatching people's cats - especially when everyone is going to know it was you".

Now I know it's true that the bodega keeps letting it out, and they really shouldn't. I've seen reddit posts about it asking if someone knew the owner. Anyway, it ended in a long rant about him being him for 50 years, and not being afraid of bodega people. He got pissed at me and stomped up the stairs, muttering about how it's going to his friend. My wife snatched the cat back, brought it to the bodega, and let em know what's going on.

Now we're between this somehow - and I don't know what I'm supposed to do? And before anyone asks, he's crazy - this isn't like an old lonely man thing. This is like an old former drug addict who inherited his grandfather's home and uses it to torture the residents as a way to sate his loneliness kinda sitch (rent is cheap tho). He will retaliate for this, no doubt, for getting between him and his plans. I could have not lectured him, but he involved me once he offered me a stolen cat. I'm watching a slow crime in the making and I can't stop it, also I hate this - it's fucking Monday maaaan.

Update: My wife found the couple he offered the cat to on the street - stopped them from coming. He told them he found a starving cat and it needed help, and they offered to come get it. She walked them to the bodega and gave everyone the run down. They were super confused, just trying to do the right thing and he lied.

Update: Of course the cat is already back outside the bodega and on our side of the street again.

Loving this LED strip at Dekalb

We're really entering our Blade Runner era.

Edit: And so I said to the guy, "Buddy, that's no replicant - that's my wife!".

I saved a drowning man but was mistaken for the victim.

I told my wife it didn't bother me that much, but I feel like I have to say something, to somebody, to get this off my chest.

Last week we went to the beach - invited by a friend who was in town, and I was having a damn fine time. For the record: I have always told my wife 'I swim like a dolphin' as a lazy response to my swimming level. I spent my childhood in Barbados, and my early childhood memories was my father spartan chucking me into the ocean and telling me to swim back, multiple times. Different times I suppose, but I have actually always been comfortable swimming, floating, holding my breath for a damn long time, and have functioned as a lifeguard for children. It's easier to just say I swim like a dolphin. Of course she's never really witnessed it until this weekend.

We were out swimming with some friends in a pretty decently packed beach, and the waves were rough - which is totally fun for me. I was having the time of my life just getting battered around by the waves and laughing with my friends. Then out of the corner of my ear I hear loud "HELP" - so I turned quick and I see maybe 20 feet a guy getting sucked into the other side of the beach from the tides changing, and his head going under.

I guess I didn't think about it too hard, because for me, that's not too far - I'm a confident swimmer, and I locked eyes with two other people who saw him go down, so I knew I wasn't in it alone. I swam over, and the guy there was gripping onto the side of pole, while in an almost sitting position, complete panic. I got to him first (which surprised my wife, because she's never seen me swim that fast). We pulled him up - told him it would be okay, just try to stay calm, and by the time the two other guys got there we had made a human chain. We saw the lifeguards 1-2 minutes out, and we just kept afloat - while the tides starting pulling at us too. We waited around til they got there, then myself and another guy let go of the chain, and ended up getting pulled to the other side of the beach. No worries for me, I was a little scratched up, but I had no plans of drowning, and worse cause there are already lifeguards in the water. Dude is alive, and the rest is just getting back. I latched onto a pole, and planted my feet on top instead of hugging it.

They sent out multiple sets of lifeguards, all young people probably doing their 18/h summer job and didn't want the hassle. Once I saw that the drowning guy was out, I figured fuck it - im tired, that was exhausting, and I'll hitch a ride back on one of the floatation devices back with another dude who helped and got dragged out with me. The lifeguard shows up - and the first thing she does is immediately start scolding ME, mistaking me for the original drowning victim. For reference it was a drowning black guy, myself, and two white guys. So when we split off, we had two neat pairs. She mistook me for him, and starts laying into me "why'd you come out here if you can't swim?!", "Just help me get back and start kicking harder" - all directed at me and not the other dude. He makes eye contact with me, understanding and pitying the moment - but now's not the time. I don't argue, I don't actually say much of anything other than "Okay lets start kicking back". But the girl is still going - all the way until we make it back to the beach, and my wife is in the water panicked and hearing the girl complaining - until she sees my wife, and hears her say "Holy fuck baby that was so scary - holy fuck did you just save that man's life?!" and the lifeguard's face changed. I didn't look back for her reaction. Didn't matter.

But it doesn't end there - we get to the beach, and the onlookers who are also confused start clapping for guy next to me, as if he saved me, and looking at me with eyes of pity. The guy I rode back with and I say great job, we did it - Woo, as the awkwardness of the situation washes over him too. I give him a fist bump and walk back with my wife and the moment leaves my body - and I just take a nap. I don't go searching for the victim, he's probably well taken care of - and nothing more for me to do.

My wife is besides herself, she's so scared, and proud of me, and calling me a hero - and other than the people in the water who helped is the only one who understood what happened, and that people mistook me for the victim. So I just nap it off for an hour, and by the time im up everyone in my group had heard what happened. They kept cheering for me, but like - I just couldn't even enjoy the moment.

First, I apologized to my wife. Super scary for her - and she didn't realize that I was actually capable of something other floating around in a tube and giggling while I'm in the water. So for her it was was terror and then immense pride. I told her I was sorry, but I knew I had him. I tell my friends the story and they're just mainly shocked - and didn't witness any of the action. I tell em give me a minute and we hit the water again - I didn't wanna not enjoy my day at the beach.

I wasn't looking for recognition or anything - and the most important person to me saw the whole thing go down - but GODDAMN IS THAT ANNOYING OR WHAT?!?! IM A FUKKEN DOLPHIN!!! A DOLPHIN!!!!

Looking for a some models for some handmade clothing

My partner and I make/paint leather clothing, goods, and other weird stuff. We'd like to have a bit more online presence, and also put together a look book or something so that we can get a portfolio together.

We work out of Rubulad, and sell our pieces at a few spots in the neighborhood and in The East Village. Admittedly, I'm not a great photographer. I do a bunch of other things, but photos are my weakness - also advertising.

Isn't that what community is about though? Somewhere out there I hope there's someone looking to build out a photography port, and a model trying to build one as well - and hopefully our combined efforts can make something great! I have lots of space for shoots, and a couple of locations we could use, and I was just hoping I could find a couple of people with some free time and with more expertise than me in the things I'm bad at!

Anyway, here's a few photos of people wearing some things we painted or made to show you what we do. It's a lotta fringe, lotta leather, and lotta painting. If you like it, and want to help out, feel free to message me!

My Wife and I Dancing Around In Your News Apps

During mother's day I was walking around with my wife and in-laws and we decided to stop at a local junk shop to show my 7 year old nephew. We got there but ive been there so many times, I told everyone else to go ahead and my wife and I would hang with the dog. Shortly after a man approached us and said "Do you know Carl?"

We were both taken by surprise and my wife reflexively replied "yeah - my dad". And we laughed thinking there was no way he actually meant her dad - but he quickly got overwhelmed with excitement and asked "Is he here right now!!?" and we both paused and had to ask what this was about?

He then explained that he was a style photographer with the NYT and that two days before he had gotten a really lovely email with our photos in it, saying that he has an amazing daughter and son in law who were into fashion and creating things, and if they ever came to Brooklyn to do stories about local artists.

Carl never mentioned it to either of us. Apparently the email was so sweet, and so dad-like that it was in his head all weekend. He got stuck on how to respond to such a kind email even though he normally gets 100 a day on similar subjects. He explained that they don't do that kind of thing, but maybe he had been missing out on things happening in Brooklyn - and set out to try to look for some local Brooklyn people to shoot. As soon as he got out of the station he immediately recognized us from the email and couldn't believe the odds and had to confirm.

They don't do requests but meeting us on the street, and we were both wearing pieces my wife made - and it was just kinda meant to happen. We hung out, chatted, he took photos and videos.

Then weeks later im getting texts from my friends and parents in my school that im in their phones. Then a couple weeks after there's a little profile that came out in print! So now when you search "Maximalists Couple" you get a cute article about my wife and I, and we're immortalized as weirdos in love!

What I See Vs What My Wife Sees

"No babe, you don't understand - I've hit levels of comfy gaming humans shouldn't obtain. This isn't dystopian."

I was playing Star Ocean on my Mini v2 with Rayneo 4's and my wife sent me this photo.

We made it to the NYT!

Thanks to everyone in this community for all the love and support. In the last few years my wife and I have had a lot of fun making art, selling clothes, and dressing with bravery! We went from street vending to being in a physical shop - and it has been an amazing ride and everyone has been so supportive!

Thanks to everyone who reached out to me to ask how to support our art after my last post. Now we're in the NYT's fashion section - so you know you bet on the right horse!

Can't wait to see how far we can go!

I Finally Got Around To FF7

Somehow I just never had the time to play Final Fantasy 7 - but I've been having fun playing the original during train rides to work. Long story short - here are some shorts, slotted with handpainted materia!

Hope it goes to some materia girl out there!

Okay so I've been trying lots of devices to find my sweet spot for an EDC - and what I've found is that all the things I've been looking at - like form factors or emulation strength has really fallen to the wayside when it comes to just how good Onion OS feels.

It makes me ditch my other consoles because I know realistically I can just pick up a game - play for a few minutes - then be able to seamlessly get back to it without eating my batteries or losing my place. I like to tinker around like the rest of us, but nothing beats being able to pick up and play games on the go.

I have a Brick, love it to death - and NexUI is a close second, but just not as fast.

Got the 34XX - and while I prefer the clamshell and the analog sticks ‐ Knulli ain't it for pick up and play with its minute of loading and fake sleeping.

Flip 2 - Excellent handheld - no real complaints heavier than other form factors. I use this for heavier games.

And then there's the MMv4 - which has become my darling simply because of Onion OS. I don't have time for long sessions, and it just made for people like me.

That being said Onion has made other alternatives feel like crap - shout out to the devs for making my 30 dollar handheld blow out everything above its pricepoint.
