Heroes V has been crowned as the game with the best skilled system, and Heroes IV has won the second place! Now let's discuss which part of the HoMM series has the best town mechanics(how fun is it to upgrade your average town, how good are the interactiond between towns and the global map, etc)
Olden era and Heroes VII were also mentioned in the comments of my initial post. And I decided to show second place on the picture. Thanks for your responds, noble lords and ladies(as well as wizards, witches, warlocks, barbarians, etc)
Let's discuss what HoMM games have done these things the best. Starting with the skill system. In which part levelling up is more fun?
Holy cow! My axedwarf has jammed the bloody robber's skull with her shield after having an arm mangled beyond recognition.
Emperor of Byzantium almost captures village by himself, gets schizofrenia and dies(in Total war medieval II).
This was a regular Venice campaign. At the start I took everything in the Mediterranean that wasn't nailed to the ground, including Sardinia, Corsica and Crimea. Soon I got sieged in Heraklion by the Byzantium. Their army was really small and mostly consisted of ranged cavalry. This army was quickly destroyed. I began moving my armies to the borders and prepared a few naval invasions. Suddenly, their emperor appears near Dyrrachium, that I couldn't upgrade due to financial issues. Byzantines only had their emperor unit. I had 2 militia units and 1 light cavalry unit there. The emperor instantly attacked the village. I decided to manually control my units and prepared a trap for the emperor. But the emperor just stood near the village with his bodyguards. I attacked him with my archers, but he just didn't care. He just stood there, ordering his units to attack. Archers couldn't kill anyone, so I just waited for the timer and won. The emperor was killed by my reinforcements later. And I guess his schizofrenia was transered to my doge after this battle, because later doge just forgot that he was fighting Byzantium and magically negotiated peace with them.
