Free Bell router upgrade... Scam???

I got a robocall this morning, saying that since I'm a Bell subscriber (I'm actually with EBOX) I'll be getting a free "new-and-improved" faster fibre router; Press 1 to start the process. This spiked my "BS meter" and I hung up. I assume scammers are trying to get people to "confirm their subscriber details" to facilitate identity theft.

MTP stopped working

I got my A17 5G back in October. Initially MTP didn't work. "I asked Mr. Google" and found out about developer mode menu, and how to enable MTP. It worked.

Yesterday I wanted to use it again after a long while. It didn't work. Charging still works. I use linux and my particular setup requires manually running a "mount script". It now comes back with "No MTP devices found."

I found website https://www.android-file-transfer-mac.com/enable-mtp-mode-samsung/#cfp-toc-anchor-2

  • the first 3 steps did NOT get me to USB settings
  • I manually searched from the "Settings" menu and found it

THE PAGE WAS GREYED OUT It had "Use USB for"

  • Transferring files / Android Auto (selected)
  • USB tethering (not selected)
  • MIDI (not selected)
  • Transferring images (not selected)
  • Charging phone only (not selected)

The page was greyed out and I could not select or change any of the settings by the usual tapping. The last time I had used MTP was before the latest update. Could that be part of the problem?

EBOX ending EBOX email accounts Nov 17, 2026

I got an email from EBOX stating... > We regret to inform you that EBOX will no longer be providing Email services to customers as of November 17, 2026.

While I mainly use my personal domain, it did come in very handy on one occasion. Any recommendations for a free email service that doesn't require 2FA?

What if 2-hour Presto card transfer window expires while on TTC?

I called TTC. They heard the words "Presto card" and transferred me to Presto. Presto has an effing braindead phone tree "powered by Artificial Stupidity" and I can't find a way to talk to a human to ask a non-standard question. Do I need to pay a second fare, and if so, how? My scenario is totally on TTC...

  • I get on the 105 Dufferin North southbound bus at 1:00 PM

  • Transfer to southbound subway at Sheppard West Station

  • Transfer at St Clair West station to 512 westbound streetcar to Wychwood

  • Get off and have a meal at Sea Witch fish+chips

  • Return trip; get on 512 eastbound streetcar around 2:20 to 2:50 PM. This is a free transfer.

  • Return via 512 to St. Clair West station to Sheppard West station, and then 105 northbound.

Easily past 3:00 PM by the time I get off the 105 on the return. I do not cross any turnstiles between the the time I get on the bus at one end of the trip and off the bus at the other end. Do I need to pay 2 fares, and if, so, how?

Testing escaping markdown code to show up as raw markdown

Using sample FAQ for possible posting to r/ebox.

Some info about using EBOX's email servers for ***FIBRE*** customers. This does *NOT* apply if you use external email services like Gmail. Instructions may be different if you use VDSL or a cable provider like Rogers for "last mile" service. The following is based on the author's experience, and may change over time. Note that it is possible to use EBOX's outbound (SMTP) server without using their inbound (POP3) server, and visa versa.

## Outbound email via EBOX SMTP server for ***FIBRE*** customers

is via smtp.ebox.ca port 587 ( no userID or password required )

You MUST use one of...

- TLS v1.0 ( YES! ONE POINT ZERO ) or
- disable TLS entirely, and use SSL-only

## Inbound email via EBOX POP3 server

EBOX does not, by default, hand out "somebody@ebox.net" addresses, but you can ask and get an address free

Inbound email is via pop.ebox.ca using POP3 protocol

Your user ID on the pop server is your customer ID ( same as your promo code ). The name on your "@ebox.net" address will have no apparent connection with your user ID.
