Adopt-A-Flock! August 16-22nd.

You are cordially invited to Adopt-A-Flock in your area to shower it with all the attention it never got growing up as a baby Flock!

Make signs to call attention to it, adorn its pole with bright colors, or maybe hang out for awhile and hold something pretty for it to look at - a reflective surface so it can see how beautiful it is, or some balloons to celebrate its beauty during August 16-22 (rush hour preferred).

  • You can find local cameras at deflock.org
    • Find one, confirm it is still there and be accessed safely
    • Look for ones in high-traffic/visibility areas
    • If near a local business/HOA, stay on public sidewalks
  • Safety tips:
    • Don't go alone, we suggest at least 3 people.
    • Make sure your camera or nearby intersection has plenty of space and keep to the grass or sidewalks.
  • Location suggestions:
    • Loveland:
      • 1st & Taft
      • Wilson Ave & Hwy 34

NoCo Privacy Updates: Victory with Flock, Petition Updates, Surveillance Policy

We did it! City Council voted to cut off the use of Flock cameras immediately and directed staff to work on terminating the contract as soon as possible.

https://fcreport.org/city-council-votes-to-terminate-flock-contract/

When we started, we were just a handful of concerned citizens going up against a multi-billion dollar corporation. But we organized, we worked together, and we WON! And we couldn't have done it without the support from everyone in the community. Thank you all for your support and hard work.

Big thank you to our city council for stepping up and taking this vote. Please make sure to thank them, too! Send them an email at cityleaders@fortcollins.gov and tell them how you feel about their vote.

Surveillance policy: The city is working on a surveillance policy that will set guardrails on city surveillance going forward, and hopefully ensures that a situation like this will not happen again. NoCo Privacy will be working with the city to ensure that the resulting policy is robust and effective. More details on the process to follow!

Petition: In light of the above, NoCo Privacy will not be submitting the signatures for the ballot this year. The city's plan for a surveillance policy closely mirrors the goals of our petition and we believe that a collaborative process working with city staff and other community groups has the best chance of yielding an effective policy. Do not worry, we have gathered all of the signature packets and will be destroying them shortly!

Ongoing efforts: We are expanding our efforts! Join us at Old Town Library 3PM Saturday for our Privacy 101 workshop, covering digital privacy and secure communications. We will start working on the cameras in Loveland, Windsor, and unincorporated Larimer County. If you know someone in those communities who cares about their privacy and would like to help, send them our way! We meet weekly at Bean Cycle Roasters every Saturday at 6PM.

Flock Leaked Cops’ License Plate Searches via DuckDuckGo, Bing

In a previous council work session, a council member asked FCPS if the data collected from the cameras can be accessed publicly without hacking, to which they responded no.

NoCo Privacy Coalition found this to be false and shared this info with 404 Media. We thank 404 Media for reporting on this, and we need to hold this company accountable!

Email your city council to stop the Flock contract and tell them we don't want Flock in our city. Sign up on the website to speak at city council in person on 6/16 at 6 P.M. when sign up opens later today!

Want Privacy Rights? These Election Candidates Do Too!

Colorado primary elections are coming up on June 30th. This will be a crucial opportunity for voters to make it clear that we do not want a surveillance state here in NoCo.

As ballots start arriving this week, NoCo Privacy Coalition is pleased to announce its endorsement of three candidates who will stand with us against the big tech companies that are trying to subvert our privacy rights:

  • David Seligman
  • Janice Marchman
  • Shane Atkinson

Please keep in mind that NoCo Privacy Coalition evaluates candidates based on their stances on the issues important to us: mass surveillance and privacy rights.

Against Flock? Let Fort Collins Know! June 1st 4-6 P.M.!

34 people signed up at last city council, where 31 of those signed up to speak and oppose the Flock/ALPR cameras. Chief Swoboda mentioned at the previous city council work session that only "33 people came in and don't like it" and he has talked to many more that support it.

We want to prove him wrong. Join us for our next action!

A protest will do one of two things. Show the city the number of people who oppose Flock, and bring awareness to those not aware of Flock's misuses.

At the corner of Harmony & Timberline, we will line the streets with signs opposing Flock and mass surveillance on Monday, June 1st from 4-6 P.M.

Need a sign? Petrichor Collective has allowed us to use their space and resources to help us make posters for the event! This will be Wednesday, May 27th from 6-8 P.M. during their art night. Materials provided! Address is 131 E Lincoln Ave Ste. C, Fort Collins, CO 80524.

Other ways you can help? Spread this poster around! The more people we have attending, the stronger our cause is.

Show the city of Fort Collins that we will not accept Flock!

FCPS on Flock: "33 People Came In and Said They Don't Like It, 'Many' Others Understand It"

An excerpt from the city council session, where they discredit the 33+ people that have come out to speak at public comment and claim "many more" support it and want oversight , despite Flock proving time and time again that they will do what they want with the data, regardless of guidelines.

Do you agree with the Fort Collins Police Service's statement?

Public comment registration is now open for City Council on 5/19 at 6 P.M.. Sign up on their website to let them know what you think of Flock and surveillance.

At the end according to the agenda, there will be a Possible Consideration of a Motion to Direct Staff on Flock/ALPR Usage. Public comment could very much affect the outcome of this agenda item.

If you want Flock out of Fort Collins, now is the time to act.

Option 1: Keep Flock; Option 2: Keep Flock; Option 3: Keep ALPRs, or...

During the City Council's upcoming work session on Tuesday May 12th at 6 P.M., Fort Collins Police Services will be presenting their options listed in their memo to City Council. This session will not have public comment, but we can still make a statement that we don't approve 3 of the 4 options they will be presenting.

FCPS Options:

Option 1: Keep Flock

Option 2: Keep Flock

Option 3: Keep Flock or get another equally bad or worse vendor

Option 4: Remove all ALPRs.

If you can attend in person, We will be handing out stickers with the words "OPTION 4" to those who want to show City Council and FCPS we don't want surveillance in FoCo! Address is 300 Laporte Ave! The more people show up to watch with our option 4 stickers on, the harder it will be to ignore us!
