Hi all
What do I need to look out for or ask a jaw surgeon?

I had a consultation with a surgeon however I came in slightly unprepared. I may have a follow up appointment.

What are questions that I should ask the surgeon or know about them before choosing a surgeon and how many surgeons should I be making appointments with?

My family suggested 2-3.

What are also red flags that I should look for?

My first appointment, he recommended surgery for me and for it to benefit my life.

Would be interested in yalls thoughts thanks.

What is the first thing you did after your swelling went down post jaw surgery?

In the process of planning Ortho/jaw surgery. Will most likely go ahead with it.

I think the first thing that I will do is get bangs and cut my hair short or a slick back bun 🥲
I have never been able to rock bangs because of my short face.

What about the rest of you guys ?

My ginger male 6 year old cat has developed FIC.
We had 2 hospital stays for blockages, the first one with crystals and a second one 2 weeks later with mainly mucus plugs.

Another 2 weeks after that he began peeing a lot of blood around the house. He was given loxicom and pain medication that time and his symptoms subsided. ( and gabapentin )

Ever since then ( 4 weeks later ) he has been on supplementation( vit k I believe however unsure of the name right now) for a month and then gabapentin. Regarding gabapentin only 1/3 of full dose in the mornings as recommended by the vet. However we have began weening him of it ( recommended by vet also to not give too much or only when he seems stressed)

Currently we can tell when our cat becomes stressed for example ( we have 3 cats total ) we feed all the cats and he becomes stressed when we give all the cats different food he will then stressed pee on furniture afterwards. ( we have separated the cats feeding since).

However our cat is just chronically stressed, we will go 3 days with no peeing in the house just in the litter box as normal and then he just pees on the Cupboards or fridge in the house.

Since he has flared up 3 times we are worried he will flare again, the 3rd flare we were really worried about having to get the surgery however since the gabapentin was started ( only after the 3rd flare was he prescribed gabapentin) did we see a change in his behaviour.

I’m not too sure what we should do because the hospital stays were extremely expensive and we will not be able to afford another one if he gets a blockage again and we also could not afford surgery if he needed it.

Our main goal is to get him to stop peeing on our furniture and reduce his stress but we are unsure on what to do with the stress peeing.

Our vet isn’t of much help in my opinion as I had to ask about gabapentin after his third flare…as my parent had been taking care of him I had thought he was already on it since the first flare ( as I had been explained that this is the long term care plan in the first hospitalisation) however he was not on it until I asked.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I will also ask my vet about what are next steps should be also for long term gabapentin use. We also will order a pheromone diffuser.
Also he is on a prescription diet I forgot to mention.

Any suggestions please,recommendations or experience with your pets. Does this eventually go away or is just a long term chronic condition.

I know it’s not a consultation with a surgeon however it’s the first step.

Yes I do need surgery - a previous Ortho has said so I just want another opinion

This Ortho works with the surgeon closely.

Any ideas on what to cover?

I made a post earlier about finding orthodontics in Dublin but I’m looking into multiple options for double jaw surgery.

I’m looking for advice on jaw surgery in Dublin and would appreciate any personal experiences or recommendations.

I’ve already seen an orthodontist, and they said I’d likely need jaw surgery. They mentioned it might be possible to do lower jaw only if I want to avoid changing my face too much, but I’m still unsure what route to take.

My main concern is the aesthetic result as I know each surgeon have there own “style” or movements I guess. I’ve heard a lot of people go abroad for that reason, but I’m also open to going private in Ireland if the surgeon and orthodontist are good. I had camouflage braces before, removed about 3 years ago, and I’m now trying to find the right orthodontist/surgeon team to work with.
If anyone has been through jaw surgery in Dublin, or gone abroad for it, I’d really appreciate any advice on it.

I am willing to have multiple consultations with surgeons to discuss their opinion on what should be done.

And if you have recommendations on surgeons in Dublin or Ireland I would appreciate it and like to know more about your experience, thanks!

Given I’ll probably have to pay privately for surgery, I’m looking to see if I should shop around for the braces cost.

Currently been quoted 8,500.

Any suggestions would be great as many don’t advertise full prices.

Hi Reddit, this is a long one but I was hoping to get some guidance on what I should do about this. Or just a vent I guess.

A friend and I were both F visiting a beach today just outside of Wicklow. We went for a swim and came back to get changed after.

The area we chose was secluded but beside a staircase. The beach itself was quiet and not many people were there.

As I was getting changed, my friend noticed a man (a young man, maybe in his 20s/30s) walking by but lingering. I thought nothing of it. I presumed he was waiting for someone, which he was.
So I stopped getting changed and waited, as my friend had told me to, until he walked off.

Another male appeared, presing his father (maybe in his 50s). As he walked by, he was holding his phone in his hand with the camera pointing towards us: a Samsung camera but closed (with one of those phone cases where you can close the screen).

I assumed nothing of it. His son, ( I presume) told him to put it in his pocket as they were walking on rocks and his “son” was helping or guiding him.

They walked off and I thought nothing of it. They only walked a few metres and then came back, so I once again stopped getting dressed. At this point I was in a long skirt and my bikini top, and my friend had not gotten changed as she was waiting to dry.

They began walking back, to go up the stairs across the rocks. The father and son both went up the rocks towards a ledge in front of us. ( but originally they did not go that way down).

As the father was walking, he stopped at a corner from where we were secluded to the ledge, as if waiting for someone in front of him to walk while his phone camera was pointed directly at us and his body was halfway behind a pillar.

At that point I was thinking, was that intentional or not. Personally, I want to give the benefit of the doubt that he was not recording and that it was just a coincidence.

By then they were going up the stairs, and the father stopped at the top of the stairs with the camera pointing down into the view of where we were changing.

By then I felt shocked and didn’t know what was happening. I was really confused and stunned. I didn’t want to accuse someone of recording if they were just casually holding their camera like that, but at the same time it felt like the coincidences were too much.

After that, I turned to my friend and asked if she saw that. She said she saw him pointing the phone down from the top of the stairs.

A few minutes later still in slight shock I went up after them back up the stairs and onto the trail that led to the car park I was still in shock and didn’t know if I should confront him or not. He was with his wife (I presume), I presume and two male children.
I took a video of the licence plate because I didn’t know what to do.

I don’t know what to do at all. I of course don’t want to accuse someone of something like that, but then again it just seemed like he was doing it. I don’t know what to do. I wish I could have confronted him, but also what if he wasn’t recording anything and was just holding his phone like that.

I have never encountered a situation like this, should I just leave it I guess I just need to vent it out because at that point if I report it I have no proof just my word and it’s not like anything would happen at that point. It would have been easier to confront him but now I obviously can’t do anything.

Thought this would be an interesting post of sorts.
I’m in a dilemma, of course any sort of tanning in the sun is bad for you however I really like how I look when I get a nice tan in the summer.

I’m really pale , I was even paler 3-4 years ago like stark white and then I got some tan over the summers.

Currently I’m pale , I wear spf on my face every day and have for the past 7 years ( I’m 21) and Im just craving a tan and the sun.

My dilemma is when I go on holidays do I continue to tan my skin , with spf of course or do I commit to never tanning my skin again.

I use skin care , retinols ect I have really good skin on my face and I’m well aware that the sun ages you. Perhaps slightly vain but I want to age nicely and have good skin when I’m 60 years old and it’s about do it stop tanning indefinitely to maintain my current skin for the rest of my life?

Perhaps I’ve already answered my question but idk I still love a good tan but I definitely notice how it’s damaged skin.
I also live to surf and find that I can never not tan slightly even if I wear zinc.

Anyways. Thoughts ? What are yall doing
