996tt ECU “reflash”

Question for anyone out there with an ECU tune + corresponding upgrades:

I bought a modified car a few years ago and for the most part it’s been great, but recently it has been slow to crank when starting. Several diagnostic tests from reputable speed shops found nothing mechanically wrong (replaced starter, no battery or cable issues) but noted issues with starter encoding within the ECU, often resulting in a battery warning light - the car does start but you have to hold ignition on for 5-7 seconds

Based on notes from seller it has an EVOMS (evolution motor sports) ECU, turbo kit and intake kit

I am not having much luck in getting in touch with EVOMS for trouble shooting the issue, so to the question, what might the risks be to reflashing the ECU with a different tuner mapping or better to do a stock reflash (assuming at a Porsche dealer?)

Understanding I’ll lose good deal of power with stock ECU but still more than bone stock given the turbos and intake upgrades.

A bit of a unique one here but figured it was worth asking!

Back in Action 🏎️

After three long weeks we are back in action - new clutch, flywheel, pinned coolant pipes, drive belt replacement, water pump replacement, new coolant bottle, and full brake system service/hose replacement

GT2 clutch pack w/ RS flywheel

A little rattle if you listen for it but hardly noticeable in the car … may not be fit for the purists but already had upgraded turbos from previous owner and it was cheaper to upgrade the clutch than undo everything else bringing it back to stock

Day 1 impressions - drives like a dream

Drivetrain Progress

Here is a 996tt power train on the ground! While it may not look like it - I swear it’s going in the right direction! Clutch/flywheel replacement, welding coolant lines, and a dozen other “while you are in there” fixes … hopefully this is good for another 50k miles 🫠

Service upgrade 996TTC

In for the GT2 clutch, single mass fly wheel and welding coolant lines … I may never financially recover from this … but at least I’ll enjoy the ride 🤣

Slipped clutch

After taking my car out and starting to put her through her paces to kick off the season in New England I slipped the clutch under heavy boost in 3rd gear. It’s on ‘04 996tt cab, I believe I am the third owner and the car has a significant tune from the previous owner (ECU, exhaust, upgraded turbos/intercooler ~600hp+)

I’m told my best/only solution is to upgrade full clutch/fly wheel etc to a “gt2 setup” Sachs 764

Does anyone have any experience with this conversion? My intention is not to track the car, just wanted a fast cruiser - it is a cab after all. Also heard the move to single mass flywheel can make things a bit noisier …

Any experience or feedback greatly appreciated! Thx
