Mario has always been one of my favourite characters in all of fiction. He's just a funny little guy, but is still ultimately good and willing to help out his brother and his friends because he genuinely cares for them. Heck, he even cares about Bowser to a lesser extent, despite the bad that he does. And he does more silly things like dreaming about Italian cuisine in his sleep. I just really like Mario. Then we got these parodies, and yeah no. Mario is either a jerk who bullies Luigi and is self-centred, or a terrifying psychopath who kills pretty much anyone he likes, a mix of both, a guy who just cannot stop cussing, etc. and also those Game Theory videos, now I known that they were meant to be satire, but they absolutely tarnished my man's reputation. And then there were the videos about Bowser being a good guy, and Mario being bad, and everything just went downhill. I'm glad that nowadays, people are recognising the real Mario, and parodies have made Mario genuinely likeable, but the 2000's and 2010's were a rough time for Mario on the internet.
