AIO: my friend doesn’t feed her 17 month old any solids

My friend (FTM) has had a lot of anxiety around eating and choking. I totally get that. But she has yet to introduce her son to solids. He’s 17 months old. She only gives him purées. He hasn’t even had berries, fruits, or even softer foods like baked sweet potato. Everything is essentially in baby food form.

When anyone tries to talk to her about this, she brushes it off like it’s not a big deal, that there’s no rush to eat solids, and that she buys all organic purées that give him all his nutrients.

I don’t think there’s much I can do to influence her at this point, but I’m asking whether I’m overreacting about how I feel. The whole situation makes me feel sad for her son and I feel kind of… disturbed(?) by it.

Looking for perspective on whether delaying solids for this long is within the realm of “normal” ???

Should I stop TTC while waiting for fertility specialist?

We have a consultation with a fertility clinic booked for September 3rd. I will be ovulating in about a week. Should I try to conceive or skip this upcoming cycle, and wait until I have more information from the fertility specialist.

Some context:

Me (F38) and husband (M41) have been trying since December. Since then, I’ve had 3 chemicals and 1 missed miscarriage. My last (and most recent) pregnancy was the MMC. We had the tissue analyzed which came back with chromosomal abnormalities.

Im conflicted. Part of me feels like we’re having bad luck because of our age, and it’s just a matter of continuing to try until we get a “good one”. The other part of me feels like even for our age, this is a lot of miscarriages in a row.

So my question is should I skip this cycle and see what the fertility specialist says?

If you went through something similar, did you pause TTC or did you keep trying throughout the fertility assessment/treatment process?

Mount Sinai Fertility vs other clinics

I’ve been referred to MSF for recurrent miscarriages. They’ve informed me that it’ll be 2-3 months before I even get an initial consultation. I’m 38 years old so time is of the essence.

I’m wondering if I should go the private clinic route which I imagine will be more expedited.

For those who have experience with these things, is there some reason that I should wait for MSF rather than go private? Will a private clinic even be quicker? Is there another clinic you liked better than Mount Sinai?

Thanks

Are we keeping our kids indoor all day today? [ON]

Took LO out this morning for a short while but I’m getting more wary about taking him outside again this afternoon with the poor air quality.

Wondering what others are doing?

Is Trinity-Bellwoods a good area to raise children?

Hello all. My partner & I currently live in the neighborhood but we’re thinking of buying a house and making a long-term commitment.

The neighbourhood is awesome with a baby but I’m wondering if it’s still a good area as kids grow older?

There are pros and cons to every neighbourhood but I’d love to hear from parents who have raised kids of all ages - do you recommend the neighborhood? Do your kids enjoy it? Is it safe? Any cons?

Any input would be appreciated!

3 chemicals & MMC - getting pregnant but not staying pregnant??

38 years old. I have 1 child and have been trying for second child for 4 cycles. We’ve gotten pregnant every cycle but first 3 were chemicals and the 4th cycle has been is a MMC. I’m currently waiting to either pass naturally or intervene.

Don’t know what I’m looking for here really. I’m just confused. We’ve been referred to a fertility specialist because of the recurrent miscarriages.

I’ve wondered if it’s just a matter of my age and less viable eggs.

wondering if anyone has been through this - being able to get pregnant fairly easily but recurrent miscarriages. For those who have been through something similar - what was your experience? Did things end up working out “naturally” or did you need fertility treatments?

My calprotectin is 108. Should I push for a medication change?

Wondering what others would do in this situation.

I was flaring early 2025 and GI upped my meds to the full dosage allowed of mesalamine (oral, suppository and enema). Had a colonoscopy last September that showed full remission.

I had a check up recently and my calprotectin is 108. I don’t have terrible symptoms but I know something is going on internally because my tummy makes a lot of noises.

My GI didn’t seem concerned with the 108 and suggested I continue taking the same meds - full dosage of mesalamine.

If you were me, would you push for a medication change? Or would you be content with a 108 and see what happens?

I’m just getting nervous that there’s clearly still inflammation.
