What’s going on with Wake Forest Waitlist

Nothing has been posted on the From The Forest blog since May 6 and I haven’t heard of anyone getting off. I wish we would at least get an update. Has anyone called them?

HOT TAKE: volume 2 was not bad until the second half of episode 7.

+ If there was one more episode to lead up to the finale better then it would not have as much hate. Volume 2 has some of my favorite stranger things episodes. The FINALE was just a piece of shit. Maybe i’m just getting stockholm syndrome tho

Give me suggestions for coming of age shows that have really compelling characters (teenagers preferably)

And like each characters have a lot of focus and are really complex. Part of the reason why I love euphoria is that I love the narrative style and love how each character gets a backstory. This is also why I love stranger things and the good place (even tho the good place isn’t teenagers). I also like how stranger things handles the supernatural part of it while keeping it coming of age

my fav shows all have virtually nothing in common… try to recommend me one!

My two absolute favorite tv shows I have watched a million times are Stranger Things and The Good Place. I just watched Euphoria as well and though it seemed out of my league I really like the symbolism they use and love how each character arc is very well thought out. Anyways recommend me another show because I don’t think I even have a niche.

The Wiz Tour

I haven’t seen the original “The Wiz”… but my expectations were high as it was described as some revolutionary retelling of a white American story through the lense of African American culture and highlights the Black experience. IMO, the tour didn’t highlight this at all. It felt like a show made for kids. It tried hard to be deep, but didn’t hit the mark. I can’t describe it, but I just did not like it. Can someone resonate with this/maybe explain what the director was trying to do?

Any waitlist updates?

To my knowledge I don’t think they’ve admitted anyone in a few weeks, but I might be wrong

APs i took easiest to hardest

1 being the easiest 8 being the hardest…

  1. AP Lang (teacher never went over the syllabus and we did literary analysis on classics instead of stuff in the lang rubric and I got a 5 without even knowing what any of the essays were, being a competent writer and knowing basic grammar and having reading comprehension is enough)
  2. AP U.S. Gov (self-studied except I didn’t study ONE BIT, just used my knowledge from APUSH + living in America and got a 4🤷‍♀️ )
  3. AP Environmental Science (y’all are probably gonna see my past post about it being so hard for me but genuinely my teacher was handpicking the most hard questions ever and the test is SO MUCH common sense even if the class itself is a lot of content)
  4. AP Lit (I thought this wld be easy AF because i’m an english nerd, but the MCQ are just so subjective and this test was kinda frustrating to me. I FS got a 4 but idk if I got a 5, and overall found this more challenging than I usually find english, takes a lot of brain power)
  5. AP Statistics (last units are so hard and I literally had to study so much. This would be like number 3 if the last units didn’t exist, but those are just so hard to me. I think my work paid off and I got a 4 or 5, but it took so much to get there which is why it is ranked here)
  6. AP Comp. Gov (this test cooked me. The only reason this isn’t last is because there are a good amount of freebie questions asking stupid stuff about graphs, but no matter how much I studied I could never get good at understanding the political science concepts conceptually. In fact I did better if I didn’t study. I wrote my entire essay about the wrong electoral system. I also like lowk didn’t study though which is another reason this isn’t last, like I should have done more sample mcq… idk if that would have helped though)
  7. AP U.S. History (EVERY single mcq is stimulus-based, knowing facts CANNOT get you freebie points. In fact while reading passages you have to kinda forget what you know because it’ll trick you with accurate answers that just barely don’t answer the question or aren’t specific enough. Really good analytical skills are also needed for writing sections and this is SO concept heavy except ALL the concepts are needed. My class was also extremely rigorous and we were not graded on an AP curve, just how many we got right, which is why this was prob so hard for me. I got a 5, but I definitely think the difficulty of this class just makes the curve really lenient, so even if it’s relatively easy to get a 5 if you go to a competitive high school the class will be terrible)
  8. AP Latin (8 years of latin disappeared after looking at this test. Literally there is SO MUCH content. The historical and geographical facts you need to know are SO RANDOM. I thought this was gonna be a situation where my class was very rigorous but the test was easy, but turns out both are extremely difficult. Spotting literary devices IN LATIN? Scanning? RAW translation of any passage from the whole year? The project passages are goated but that’s only one part of the exam. This is genuinely the most difficult thing i’ve ever experienced.)

Contrasted Mrs. Ramsay’s traditional values and Lily’s new, radical values regarding love (marital love and love an artist has towards their art)

I feel like no one reads TTL in HS but I think I did well, my essay was just super complex and lowk hard to understand so I hope my reader understands it idk

I know the hunger games inside and out. The book and the movie. Each book in the series. I think i’ll be fine w Hamlet and TTL but if the prompt truly does not relate at all do i try to vaguely connect it to one of those or write about the hunger games?

I’m a little confused on the structure of the essay where we bring in a book from class. Do we have to use quotes from the book? Like how would we analyze the book without that? I’ve only practiced with direct quotes which would be hard to memorize

I literally check my missed calls every single day to see if I got a call from Wake i feel like i’m going crazy. I sent them an email abt application update + changing the latest date I want to be considered to August 1, but they only responded about the updates part. Should I re-email? This was April 14 ish. And i also have another update so do I include that or no?

my favorite “To The Lighthouse” quote

“Love had a thousand shapes. There might be lovers whose gift it was to choose out the elements of things and place them together and so, giving them a wholeness not theirs in life, make of some scene, or meeting of people (all gone and separate), one of those globed compacted things over which thought lingers, love plays” (192).

The way Lily describes artistry is just beautiful. Reply with your favorite TTL quote!
