I built a free browser tool that generates laser-cut boxes, now with round/star/heart shapes and wood-only hinges (v2)
Hey everyone,
I've been working on Box Studio, a free box generator for laser cutters. It runs in the browser, needs no signup, and exports a ready-to-cut SVG. I just released v2 and would love feedback from people who actually cut things.
What's new in v2:
- More shapes: besides rectangular and round boxes, you can now make polygons (3–12 sides), stars and hearts. Round, polygon, star and heart boxes can have a lid with a handle.
- New hinge/lid systems:
- Cabinet lid, with a hinge that uses a metal axle.
- Integrated hinge, made only from the sheet material, with no extra hardware.
- Kerf compensation: set your laser's kerf so the finger joints fit the way you want. A larger kerf value makes them looser, and a smaller one makes them tighter.
- Optimized SVG export: it strips the text and packs the pieces tightly. You can set your sheet size (it spills onto extra sheets if needed), and there's a true nesting mode that rotates pieces to fill gaps.
- 3D preview: see the assembled box, open the lid, and check the fit before cutting.
- Shareable links: send your exact design to someone as a URL.
It works with LightBurn, Inkscape, LaserGRBL, xTool Creative Space, and anything else that imports SVG.

I'd especially like to hear how the integrated hinge and the nesting work on your machine and material (I've mostly tested with 3 mm plywood). Bug reports and feature requests are very welcome.
