Almost 8 months of only ZorinOS at home and counting.

Upgraded my set-up over the christmas break last year, and decided that was the right time to finally kick windows out too. While i troubleshoot windows for users all day at work, i hadn't had much experience with linux prior, so i needed something stable and easy to deal with at home.

I can confirm that Zorin has been exactly what i wanted.

There have been some issues along the way for sure, including a weird problem with my main monitor never waking up from sleep properly, but rarely have i encountered anything that needed extensive troubleshooting-
-especially surprising since i had heard of issues with NVIDIA GPUs, and i had just upgraded to a 5060ti, But that worked fine out the box.

_______
Games

I don't really play a lot of the big popular games, 'nor retro either, but what i have so far played has been quite alright:

-The Elder Scrolls Online, as a stand-alone via lutris, had some minor issues, but nothing more complicated than adjustments on Windows would ever be.

-Helldivers 2 on steam however, "It just works"!

-*40k Darktide ran super smooth, but then suddenly crashed at random intervals. It has been a bit of a nightmare to get working, but i'm pretty sure the problem is as much with the game's engine as linux itself.
__________

Other Apps

While i don't do much in terms of niche PC uses at home these days, any apps i have 'missed' from windows have been easy to find a replacement for.

My headphones and Keyboard, Fractal Scape and 'BE QUIET!' Dark mount respectively, rely on apps for additional functionality and have worked great with the webapps via brave/waterfox. With only minor function loss for the keyboard due to lack of 'proper' app access.

The closest I've come to a proper App gripe; is not being as comfortable with the choice of offline flac/mp3 players as i was with MusicBee on Windows.
Strawberry is the one i have ended up with, although it feels much less intuitive than the former, and can be finicky to organise at my desired window scale.

____

So overall i will be continuing to use Zorin as my daily driver, and see no reason to stop doing so in the near future.
(At most i will be using my secondary mini-pc to explore some other Distros :3)

Will we be able to customize the face/physical appearance of the Hero?

I know it was everything cosmetic on top that we could change in previous games, but having some structure sliders, or even just presets and colours/tones to choose from would be really nice.

This video feels too good to be true?

TLDR:
Video is about how therapy is difficult for people who are "highly analytical" and so are already very self-aware etc, but also how the that mindset is part of the brain literally moving to logic instead of feeling emotions.

Does anyone know whether there is broader verifiable research/evidence to back this up?

Because i connect very strongly with this... and personal experience tells me that means it can't be right-
-or i'm getting carried away/spiralling because i need time to process etc.
___________________________________

Main context:

This popped up in my recommendations last night, Past the slightly cliche opening i connected so strongly with the descriptions and it felt like someone actually understood why i'm stuck where i am for the first time.
But.. by the very nature of WHY i connect with what is explained in this video, i also find it incredibly difficult to believe.
(I am aware of the irony that, my instant reaction to try and logically explain this emotional response, is also just further evidence of it being plausible)

It's only made more difficult due to struggles in seeing myself in a positive light, so when something i do is described as "Really impressive".. like, no it can't be impressive if it's something i am doing, that's not how it works.
..But beyond my personal hang-ups with that; The actual descriptions are precisely how i see things, and it's why the one compliment i allow myself is that i am decent at my job as an IT technician because of it.

But out of nowhere, this video so precisely gets a big part of how my brain works? -"it has to be some sort of sneaky manipulative/pandering stuff right?"

When you actively want to avoid most of the things in the premium track...but then you see HIM..

Just like the last season, all the premium stuff's special effects are so over-the-top and gaudy, it's genuinely off-putting.
The Hyenas are a competent re-skin at best, but not something i would ever pay money for.
-same with the Peddlar.

But then i see HIM....Lord Boethiah have mercy- This may be my toughest battle yet..😰

What did you wish you were told before playing a Healer in End-game content?

Short version: mained healer way back at launch, been a lot time of Tanks and DDs since then.

My sets are: Ozezans, Spell power and Jorvuld.
-I've got the basics down, so working on my rotation & awareness through practice (healed vHRC twice now).

But i wondered; what are the little things that You think are often missed, or misunderstood in high-end healer/support gameplay?

-or any other niche/advanced things that helped you perfect your flow?

Thanks!

It would be interesting to get more morally dubious companions.

My idea was a vampire who is maybe not outright "Evil"- but is entirely happy with being a vamp and needing to feed on mortals.
Giving plus points for players getting the curse, feeding & general murder. Then minus points for reviving players, curing curses and entering fighter's guild halls &/or churches etc.

I could see them still needing to be framed in a redeemable way, to justify the choice for players who just want to finish the quests.

So on that front, the Quest-line could start with the player being asked to support a vampire hunter in tracking them down, but they quickly realise the hunter is completely barmy!
-to sum up the mindset in an apt film quote:
"I cherish peace with all my heart. I don't care how many men, women, and children I need to kill to get it."

Framing the vampire as the lesser evil in comparison.

*If they have to be one of 3 races we don't already have, then Orsimer would avoid comparisons to Serana and Gwendis.

Gossamer dissection - easy method!

If your group is good- but still struggling to both kill the spider fast enough, and keep the webbed player alive.
-Then you can do what we just did: leave it alive for a second pull.

As long as you can stay alive to res any deaths, and can reliably control your damage (not too many pets/dots etc)

Then just stay in the fight and weaken it right down. Focus the add spiderlings as they do a lot of damage, then get ready for it to web again and easily poke it dead.

Anyone else have their own little rules when creating an outfit?

My main one is to try and not re-use the same set for multiple pieces, with a hard cap of two per one outfit.
-e.g if i use the silver rose gloves; and find nothing else fits as well as the silver rose boots, then i can't use silver rose for any other slots on that outfit.

And the other is being very specific about how those pieces match, in terms of multiple things:
-The texture/inherent traits of the material.
- The style and shape of any patterns, or lack thereof.
-Metal plates have to be the same rough shape & style, with the same level of sheen/shininess.
-Exact colour match, even if i have to use different random dyes to achieve it.

*
I've been hyper-focusing on ESO outfits this week so bad, since NM has pushed me to go through with multiple characters, and U49 made my outfit slots duplicate across all of them.
-Mountains of gold vanished, hours of time lost to scrolling across every style in every slot...
Worth it, 100%.
