Is it acceptable to reach out to an admission officer to ask them to read my essay ?

Hey! So I know that for some people this question is dumb, but I just wanted to be sure. If not, is there any kind of service where something like this happens? But strictly with a current or ex admission officer, not someone who got into college or something?

Is admission to colleges really as hard as people say?

I mean yeah, it is getting harder every year with acceptance rates dropping and ec and grade inflation being at an all time high. But, a lot of people (including me) are heavily influenced by people that are promoting their own services? All I am trying to say is that despite what people say on social media, reddit, etc (I know are not good sources of information) I keep on seeing people at my school getting into schools like Georgetown and Northwestern on full aid or close to full aid while having what all those influencers would describe average extracurriculars. So is it really as hard as people say?

Is the SAT really gonna be harder?

I keep on seeing videos on tiktok and Instagram with people sayings it gonna be harder. I get that they are trying to profit out of the fear of test takers, but what if there is some truth to what they are saying?

How can I get a cleaner not nasal tone as a male 17?

When I sing, especially high notes I usually sound nasal, imagine Shawn mendes, and triple the nasality. Do you know how I can fix a problem like that ? And in general fix my tone when singing songs?

Is the College Board Question Bank Enough for a 1560+?

I currently have a 1510 SAT (740 rw, 770math), but because I am an international and I am trying to get merit scholarships along with any financial aid I can get, I am trying to reach a 1560+. Is the collegeboard question bank enough? On practice test 7 of college board I scored a 1540 (750 rw, 790 math).

Should I retake a 1510??

I am applying to college this year and have a 740 rw and 770 math. However my top choice school at the moment is USC. But due to me being international I do not get financial aid so I will need to get their trustees scholarship which covers tuition.

With a 1510 I am in the 50% of USC, I am not sure if I can get a 1550 or something, but I believe I can possibly get an 800 math to get a 1540. Do you believe it's worth my time? Or should I focus on other parts of my application.

For USC Trustees what were your stats and ecs?

I am thinking of applying to USC but I can't really afford it unless I get the Trustees scholarship. Therefore I am quite interested in finding out the type of applicant they offer them to.

How can yall tell if your essay is good?

I've been writing my personal statement essay for about a month now, and I have no clue if its good. I am not even sure if the choice I made is good, if it feels too generic, doesn't represent me or is a bit of a trauma dump. How do you see if your essay is actually worth submitting?

Help finding songs for college auditions!

Hey, so I am applying to college this year, and to be honest I am not that confident in my vocal ability just yet, so my song choices are pretty limited to what I can sing well. I am at the moment working on my application to uMiami Frost as a contemporary vocalist (non jazz because it's another category for them), which requires 3 songs. I have selected "Falling" by Harry Styles, and "Someone you Loved" by Lewis Capaldi. I am wondering if I should change one of those, and some people told me that I should use songs that showcase different qualities of my voice. So should I change one of the songs, and any suggestions for the third song?

"Falling" By Harry Styles, I will prob add to my college app portfolio so any advise is helpfull!

Hi! So I am applying to college this year and I am making my portfolio of songs for auditions. This is one of the songs I have selected. The list is not finalized so I'd like to know if this song matches my "tonality" (I am not sure how to say it) and also if I can make any notable corrections.

What do I need to get the Stamps Scholarship?

Hey, so I am an international from Greece, and I plan to apply Early Action to Frost to MADE. I have a 1510 SAT (740rw,770m), 8 ielts, and 19.5/20 school grades following the Greek curriculum so no aps or ibs (nor was I offered any). My ecs accademically are I believe above average: 20th nationally in the chemistry olympiad, managed and wrote the financial portfolio of our schools engineering club for Formula One in schools where we won 2nd nationally and qualified for internationals. Those are the most notable academic achievements I think I have had.

Please tell me if I have any chances for that, or any full pay tuition scholarship.

Would anyone be willing to review my personal statement?

I wrote my personal statement about an event I tried to organize and how I grew from it. My school's councelor is currently on vacation so I don't have anyone to ask.

Is this a good personal statement for NYU

So my college councelor is currently on vacation and therefore she can't read it. Please give me feedback on this. It is still a draft so I am not sure how to move on from here:

And sent – I looked at my screen for a few more moments staring at the undo button Gmail offers, until it disappeared. For the first time I had exposed myself to other people in sharing my ideas.

A while back I wanted to try my luck in research, and participate in ISEF, the international science and engineering fair. But when I tried to see what the requirements are to sign up, I realized that Greece doesn’t offer a qualifying round, leaving me with the only option of going to another country to participate. So I did the opposite, I tried to build one myself.

So I started sending emails to non-profits in my city, something I had never done before. The whole pitching an idea part seemed off – it felt really weird and stressful. I mean why would they invest their energy and time in what a sixteen-year-old had to say. But I still tried it out thinking what’s the worst that can happen.

This whole process of sending emails, replying to their “This is interesting” or “We will get back to you”, and sending follow-ups lasted for two months, until I got a phone call. I picked up and it was the founder of an NGO called Eduact. Needless to say, I was panicking throughout the whole interaction, but thankfully he saw through my anxious and agitated replies and requested we schedule a meeting for next week.

I was genuinely so excited that the same night I opened an empty document and didn’t close my laptop until the proposal felt worthy of the opportunity. I prepared everything I could think of – rough costs, sent a survey to a few schools, found some possible volunteers – so I was pretty confident about the meeting. When that day arrived however, and I had to visit their office, all that confidence went right out the window.

I wasn’t really that much of a speaker, I didn’t do well in public speeches, and when the time came that I had to put to use my immature and under-developed communication skills it was nerve-racking. The opening I had practiced so many times just disappeared from my mind and I was struggling to think of what to say. What if they rejected me? What if this project would never flourish, all because of my inability to express myself? Needless to say I was surprised when they actually seemed supportive. They even assigned me to a team and we got straight to work.

A few months passed, and we were progressing a lot. We were communicating with ISEF on a weekly basis, and had almost completed our list of researcher volunteers for the judging committee. All went well, until we asked specifically for permission to affiliate the fair. And we were turned down. I was crushed. I spent so much time working towards this goal that I didn’t end up achieving. Thankfully, I was working on my music at that time pulling me away from this feeling of loss and failure.

Now it’s been a couple months, and I have come to appreciate this whole experience. I went from being scared to send an email asking a simple question, to reaching out to professors on a daily basis without a second thought. The confidence I gained, however, didn’t just involve sending emails. I created a YouTube channel where I expose myself to thousands of people every day. This whole experience even enabled me to pursue things that I truly care about, while ignoring what other people say I can and can’t do, like music which has always been a big part of my life.

I am looking for a vocal coach!

Hey, so I am currently a rising senior in Greece, so my timezone is EEST. I unfortunately do not have the funds to cover expensive lessons or multiple ones every week. However, I believe I can cover at least one a week!!

My current goals are to improve my technique to sing without any tension and in general achieve a better tone.

Thank you very much!

How do you guys get better technique when singing?

I have been singing for about 2 years now but I struggle with my throat closing and in general feeling pain there. It is not something that usually happens to me, and it only started this past month. I believe it's due to me not having developed that good of a technique in addition to suddenly increase the duration, level, and range of what I sing.

If you guys have any like exercises I could do or any advice in general I would be pleased to take a shot at it.

Chance me (Nyu, umiami etc)

Hey so I'm an international student from Greece that is asking for aid (Tuition, my family can afford the rest). I know its still brutal. Anyways:

I plan to apply for Music (Music production and business). I know my CV is mainly focused on STEM but I went through a change of heart this past year.

Academics:

1510 SAT super score(740 reading 770 math), 8 ielts, 19.5/20 grades (no aps or ib classes offered at my school.

ECS:

I have a youtube channel were I post covers of songs and other original songs (Currently I have 22k views but if I keep going like this I believe I can reach at least 50k by ed1).

I am part of a local music group and we perform 4-5 times a year to a crowd of about 100-200 people.

i am currently preparing for RockSchool Vocals Grade 6 (It caps at 8, and I am also awarded UCAS points if I decide to go to the UK!!).

I am learning production and am working on a couple of songs at the moment and I hope to be done with at least 5 for my portfolios.

I have done an entomology research internship at a USDA lab (just 3 weeks) where I actually participated in research. I was responsible for dissecting a large sum of the samples of mosquitos we received which were then scanned under a machine called PCR to look for RNA of West Nyle Virus.

I placed 20th (tied for 19th) nationally (greece) on the chemistry olympiad

I did a 2 month internship at a local microbiology lab(non research cause people often confuse it) where I was repsonsible for running the blood exams and we roughly had 10-15 patients a day for 4 days a week.

I plan to apply:

NYU Clive Ed1 (I think I qualify for NYU Promise so if I get admitted I can get aid)

Umiami Ea

Fordham Ea

Drexel Ea

American University Ea

my regular decision list has not been finalized yet but it should include:

Vanderbilt

Brown

and a few safeties

Right now NYU and Umiami are my top choices so I hope I get in
