I've got you babe

This made me smile, and I wanted to Cher it. I arrived late to the parent party. This was in last week's school work, which came home last night. I hope it gives you a moment amidst all the bulls#$% in the world. Reading it certainly made my coffee less bitter. A near spit take later, I was sharing it with my SO.

Not all who wander are lost. Some of us are getting paid for it.

You went. You saw. You got your name on it. Now what?

Share the system you found. Post the view that made you stop and look. Help a newbie add 0.3 Ly to their jump range. Compare notes, trade techniques, test an idea, or pass along something you learned twenty thousand light-years ago.

Explore. Learn. Share.

For new explorers, Empyrean Foundation maintains Exploration and Exobiology guides designed to get you into the black … without telling you everything you’re going to find there.

For experienced explorers, we have expeditions, projects, research, and a mentorship environment.

  • You have experience? We have players who want to learn from you.
  • You know your way around a boxel? We are building a new galaxy map search method that needs creative minds and data.

Thermal Shock - do the numbers exist?

Getting the basics out of the way:

Thermal Shock

  1. https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Thermal_Shock
  2. An Engineering experimental effect that may be applied to Beam Lasers, Burst Lasers, Multi-cannons, & Pulse Lasers.
  3. The weapon it is applied to suffers a 10% reduction in damage.
  4. Strikes to shields and hull impart additional heat into the target.
  5. This effect can not raise an enemy ship's thermal level above 90%.
  6. Pre-Operations NPC AI will go into a "thermal conservation" mode of activity:
    1. Not perform any activity that will increase their ship's thermal level (eg - boost, fire heat producing weapons, or use shield cell banks).
    2. Will use heat sinks and thermal transfer weapons to reduce their ship's thermal level.
  7. Common strategy in PvE is to use at least one weapon effect to raise NPC ship thermal levels to prevent boosting, etc. in combat.

===

Has anyone determined the actual amount of heat generated in the enemy ship per weapon type, weapon grade, weapon damage output, range, etc.?

Will a single size 1 turreted pulse laser deliver/inflict enough heat to maintain 90% thermal level if/once the enemy ship has reached that amount (does not assume that this weapon could cause 90% thermal level, but could it maintain it)? Or do you need multiple? What size? Pulse vs beam?

I suppose that I am surprised to find almost no specific information as to the inflicted amounts of heat/second or heat/strike.

Corrosion Resistant Cargo Racks ?[5E & 6E]?

So a few of us were talking, and someone (who shall remain nameless to protect the children) found this listed in INARA.

Does anyone have a memory of size 5&6 being available at some point in the past? It's possible that they caught an incoming update, but none of us can recall if this has always been listed or if this is new. It's not exactly a listing I would have been watching.

At any rate, I figure it was worth crowd sourcing the question. Or starting a conversation about implications if this is new.

Starting over in Elite. Looking for company.

I don’t know who among you might be interested in a project like this. So I am casting this net wide to see what comes back at me.

I do know that some of you are grinding towards burnout. And some of you have already collected every badge the game has to offer and are circling burnout from a different angle.

Over the next six months, a few of us are planning to start over with alt accounts. And we want to do it all: Sidewinder to everything. Mining. Trade. Combat. Guardians. Engineering. Thargoids. Colonisation. The lot.

At the moment, there are two or three of us looking at this for the next challenge. There are a couple of broader ideas floating about as well: perhaps a website, some progress tracking, maybe single-page guides as we go. But at its heart it’s fairly simple:

Good company wanted for grand adventure.

So the invitation is there to you, the veteran commander; who, having collected the medals and beaten the challenges, wants to find that thrill again. Remember that insignificant part of the game that’s been missing for some time. Because it has for me. You reach a point where you can do (almost) anything in Elite, but there’s no real risk left in it. No unknowns left to chase. No desperate battles against impossible odds. And for me, before moving on to a new game or a different hobby altogether, I’d quite like to try this and see if some of that lightning can be found again.

Likewise, an invitation to the newer player who still has everything ahead of them. A few more people to explore the game with would be brilliant. And if I’m honest, we could genuinely use fresh eyes on Elite… someone willing to stop and say “wow” every once in a while. Seems a fair trade: we bring the “how it can be done”, and you lend us a little of that feeling that comes with stepping into the unknown parts of a vast and beautiful game for the first time.

I've rewritten this post a few times. But I really do enjoy this game! I’d like to experience it again with a few like-minded commanders. And I expect that the commanders I’m most hoping to hear from are the ones who quietly read a post like this and think, “…yeah, maybe.” I also expect the loudest comments may go the other way, and that’s all right. DM me if you’re interested. Comment if you like. Comms channels are open.

God help me, I just coined a new phrase. To "GenX-plain" is to explain how technology and techno-enabled social interactions are "optional." Seriousness to sarcasm is discretionary to the user, audience, and situation.

Something happy happened today to a friend. So, naturally they (also GenX) blew up the phone text-group with their awesome news and the back chatter that followed.

To this one of our number angrily retorted with a few expletives and the news that in their time zone, they were having dinner.

What followed was a complete breakdown of how they are entitled to mute their phone, leave it in another room, join the conversation, or casually take off. When they balked at the pushback, I shot off that I would "be happy to GenX-plain the concepts of using a phone's various muting abilities and/or humanity's collective lack of psychic ability to know they did not want to be disturbed at that exact moment".

I feel that naming a thing is a powerful act. And that with this new found label we should all take caution that this activity is never seen in the same light as "man-splaining". But rather the unassailable truth that social fiat is an optional state of affairs.

With great power comes great sarcasm my friends. Use yours wisely!

Amazing to steer. Visually, from inside the cockpit, everything looks great. And the sound design is a treat to listen to. But I especially love the airliner-sales-bell 'PING' when you hit the boosters!

Fantastic job FDev!

Side note, nothing catastrophic - Has anyone noticed not hitting the autocruise mark or the autodock needing a second try to make it inside the station?

The thought occurred today, as a chuckle worthy thought experiment, that it would be a hoot if Zorgon-Peterson were to end up being the economic support behind the recent pirate attacks. In an effort to better market their ships over the past year, Z-P has coordinated tragic events with their ship release timetable; ensuring that the nature of the tragedy is in line with the designed function of their newest ship.

Don't take this as me suggesting this theory to be the case. FDev needs to lay the foundation for their incoming, new content - and build community goals around the meta-reality of that timetable. But it is a fun idea to play with and FDev should absolutely steal it.
