China has become woke (not really)

>In a response to a suggestion letter, the Supreme People's Court of China stated: “To implement the provisions of laws such as the Constitution, the Civil Code, and the Employment Promotion Law, and to effectively safeguard citizens' personal dignity against infringement, the Supreme People's Court hereby clarifies the following adjudication rules: ...First, regarding cases involving the public insult or defamation of an individual's sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression, People's Courts generally deem such acts to constitute an infringement of general personality rights; they shall order the cessation of the infringement, the issuance of an apology, and compensation for emotional distress, thereby explicitly establishing the illegality of discriminatory speech and conduct based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. ...Second, in the contexts of recruitment, hiring, job reassignment, or dismissal, should an employer engage in differential treatment on the grounds of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression, People's Courts shall, in accordance with the law, determine that the employer has committed employment discrimination; they shall order the revocation of the relevant decision, compensation for losses, and other remedies, thereby explicitly prohibiting unreasonable discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression within the sphere of employment. ...Third, should a school impose improper disciplinary measures upon a student—or fail to fulfill its administrative duties, thereby resulting in campus bullying—on the grounds of the student's sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression, People's Courts shall, in accordance with the law, hold the school liable, thereby reinforcing the school's obligation to protect students' personal liberty and dignity. ...These cases collectively demonstrate the People's Courts' unequivocal stance regarding the equal protection of the legitimate rights and interests of sexual minorities—namely, that any unreasonable discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression is strictly prohibited by law. ...Moving forward, we will continue to systematically review cases across the country involving the protection of the rights and interests of sexual minorities, summarize adjudication rules, and standardize adjudication criteria. At appropriate junctures, we will formalize established adjudication rules through mechanisms such as judicial interpretations, conference minutes, guiding cases, reference cases, and exemplary cases, thereby strengthening the supply of legal norms. Furthermore, we will incorporate topics such as the protection of personality rights into judicial training programs to ensure the lawful protection of citizens' personal liberty and dignity.”

The US general strike of 1886 took place on May 1st; just two days later, on May 3rd, Chicago police opened fire on the striking crowds in an attempt to suppress it. The following day, workers in Chicago held a rally to denounce this act of repression. As the rally was drawing to a close, police arrived to disperse the anarchist speakers; at that moment, a bomb was suddenly thrown into the police. The police immediately opened fire on the crowd, causing heavy casualties among workers. Many workers were arrested, and eight anarchist activists were put on trial. Despite a lack of evidence linking them to the bombing, they were convicted of conspiracy to commit murder in a political trial meant to crush dissent. Seven were sentenced to death and one to fifteen years in prison.

At the Paris Peace Conference in January 1919, the imperialist powers decided that Japan would inherit Germany’s privileges in Shandong, China. Although China was among the victorious nations, the Beiyang government still prepared to accept this unjust decision. On May 4, students from various schools in Beijing went on strike and gathered in Tiananmen Square, launching a demonstration demanding that China refuse to sign the Treaty of Versailles. When they were unable to enter foreign embassies, the students turned toward the residence of Cao Rulin, who had secretly concluded treaties with Japan. The protesters burned his house and assaulted Zhang Zongxiang, China’s minister to Japan. Police and troops were dispatched to suppress the movement, arresting thirty-two students. Yet this repression only intensified the movement more, as workers, students, and intellectuals across China joined it afterwards.

On May 4, 1926, the Trades Union Congress (TUC) in Britain called a general strike in support of coal miners, joined by at least 1.5 million workers in the entire process. On May 7, the TUC met with Herbert Samuel and drafted a set of proposals, but these were rejected by the Miners’ Federation. In the days that followed, the government's control over the strike situation steadily increased. On May 12, the TUC announced that it would call off the strike if the government agreed to respect the earlier proposals; however, lacking any such commitment from the government, the strike ultimately came to an end.

Edited from a scene in Lenin in 1918 (1939), where Lenin ordered Dzerzhinsky to execute the arrested food speculators. This scene has become a meme for the Chinese left.

(The caption says, "We must execute this group of people immediately.")

(The poster says: "Warmly celebrate the 137th International Workers' Day")

And remember the 1886 Chicago general strike on its 140th anniversary!

>This capitalistic system that we have to-day would not exist twenty-four hours if it were not held together by the bayonets and the clubs of the militia and police.

According to the Ministry of State Security, April 28, 2026:

>State security agencies have discovered that a certain foreign organization is funding various anti-China media outlets and think tanks to fabricate narratives such as "striving = exploitation" and "class solidification = effort is useless". The foreign organization is heavily subsidizing "lying flat" influencers, mass-producing short videos promoting slogans like "lying flat is justice" and "anti-involution = anti-exploitation", and systematically carrying out "lying-flat brainwashing". Numerous cases demonstrate that hostile anti-China forces are waving the banner of "lying flat" and are "working hard" to erode the ideology and spirit of Chinese youth.

(Additional information) According to Wikipedia:

>Tang ping (lit. 'lying flat') is a Chinese slang term that describes a personal rejection of societal pressures to overwork and over-achieve, such as in the 996 working hour system, which is often regarded as a rat race with ever diminishing returns. Tang ping means choosing to "lie down flat and get over the beatings" by adopting a "low-desire life".
