What a journey it was to get here! We had a micro-wedding with the guest list capped at 48, including three infants and two dogs, who obviously had the very important role of bridesmaids.

In true Scottish fashion, the weather was overcast and grey. As much as I would have loved some sunshine, the dramatic skies actually made for a pretty incredible backdrop.

We took over the venue from Friday to Saturday, with an open bar and all the catering onsite. The food was absolutely superb, and the venue staff were awesome. Everyone was aware of the mobility problems I was having and accommodated me in the most sensitive and kind way.

One of the things I’m happiest about is that we used so many local suppliers and artisans. My husband is from abroad and a lot of his family travelled over for the wedding, so it meant a lot to me to be able to give them some proper Scottish hospitality while they were here.

Not everything was perfect. I was a little disappointed with the ceremony flowers and I don’t love my photos as much as I’d hoped I would. My hair and makeup also took far longer than expected despite being relatively simple, and I do feel like I missed out on quite a bit of the fun because of it.

I was also ill on the day and dealing with chronic pain and swelling, so there are parts of the day that I feel like I missed or wasn’t completely present for.

Because of that, I’m SO glad I made a last-minute decision to hire two young videographers to capture the day. They were incredibly sweet and gave us so many different edits of the footage. They also massively underpriced themselves for the amount of work they did, so I ended up tipping them extra. I’d recommend them in a heartbeat, although I’d want to ask them before sharing their details as they don’t normally do wedding videos.

Even with just 48 guest I felt I didn’t get to spend enough time with everyone and was constantly on the move.

I absolutely loved my main dress, but I’m also very glad I had a second dress to change into because the first became increasingly uncomfortable as the day went on.

There are definitely things I’d do differently, and parts that didn’t quite go to plan, but overall it really was the best day ever. ❤️

I will say who my vendors/venue privately. I’ve done my best to cover any one’s face that is visible. This sub was an amazing support in helping me pick my dresses and give me hope when I was in the pit of wedding fatigue.

I won’t be leaving we I still love watching everyone else’s journey!

Love my new wallet

Needed a new coin/ card wallet and this Victorine fit the bill perfectly. Was tempted by a pink Lisa but this has more width capacity and will be more versatile. 10/10 would recommend if you’re looking for something you can slip in your pocket.

I am targeted by emails saying my account is being closed but I’m not a customer.

This seems quite obviously a scam email but I think it means my email is being used.

“You requested to transfer your phone number ending in 9415 to another carrier. We're sad to see you leave, but you'll always be welcome back! The PIN will expire in 4 days.”

Anyone else had this?

I fell out of love with my dress

I got married last weekend and as people send me photos and I get tagged I hate my dresses more and more.

I adored them at my final try on the week of the wedding but on the day nothing worked and I felt uncomfortable.

I just think I looked bloated and exhausted the whole time.

I had the most amazing day so I’ll hold on to that. But the more images I see the worse I feel.

Is this normal for a “luxury” wedding venue, or are they taking the piss.

Is this normal for a £21k “luxury” wedding venue, or are they taking the piss?

I’m getting married next week and I’m genuinely struggling to work out whether this is normal wedding industry behaviour or whether my venue has handled things badly.

We booked the venue in September for a two-night wedding weekend costing around £21,000. I’m having a micro wedding with only 50 people. I picked this venue because it felt more like a country retreat and cosy.

Three months before the wedding, the venue informed me that a large orangery for around 100 people would be erected in the exact area where we’d planned our outdoor BBQ. It was a lovely sunken garden with flowers and a grotto and fire pit.

The structure dramatically changes the look and feel of that part of the venue. It’s a large glass box.

What upset me most is that they later admitted they had known about the orangery when I booked the venue in September but felt they had no obligation to tell me at the time, despite knowing it would significantly alter one of the main event spaces. They simply took the booking and deposit without mentioning it.

When I raised concerns, I was told I was “just one opinion” and received no apology. “You’re the only upset bride”.

I was then told it would cost an additional £8,000 if I wanted to use the orangery. After my stepmother (who is a lawyer) contacted them, they suddenly agreed to let me use it for free, but the attitude was very much that I should be grateful rather than acknowledging the situation had been handled poorly.

Despite the orangery significantly affecting our plans, they wouldn’t let me see it until about 2½ weeks before the wedding. That left me scrambling to organise suppliers and décor at short notice and additional cost.

Then, one week before the wedding, they informed me they don’t actually have enough dining chairs for my wedding breakfast, despite knowing my guest numbers since December. Again, no apology and no acceptance that this should have been identified months ago.

To make matters worse, the original chairs we were shown and expected to use were velvet dining chairs. Their proposed solution is now to use rattan chairs from the orangery instead. Aside from being noticeably less comfortable for guests sitting through a wedding meal and speeches, they don’t fit the indoor aesthetic we booked. Because this has been raised so late, we don’t have time to source chair covers, cushions or alternative seating - nothing is available.

The final straw was when I tried to discuss these issues with the owner a week before the wedding and he opened the conversation with: “Shall we cancel your wedding?”

At that point, cancelling wasn’t a realistic option. Guests had already booked flights, arranged childcare, taken annual leave from work and, in many cases, were staying on-site at the venue. Thousands of pounds had already been spent by us and our guests. The suggestion felt less like a genuine solution and more like an attempt to shut down the conversation.

Throughout all of this, the common response has been variations of “you’ll be thanking me after the wedding” rather than any accountability or apology.

The venue markets itself as a luxury wedding venue, so I’m genuinely shocked by both the communication and the attitude.

Am I overreacting, or would most people expect better treatment and communication from a venue charging this kind of money?

First fitting, need advice - To sleeve or not to sleeve, that is the question.

Had my first fitting today and got pinned into my dress for the first time. It’s custom, made by a local dressmaker, which I’m so excited about. She’s making detachable sleeves, which I love because it gives me options. Scotland wedding means unpredictable weather, plus I might want two looks, or just the choice to cover up if I feel like it. I hate my arms due to scars and loose skin.

They’ll snap on and off easily. The dress is mikado silk, so the fastenings won’t show through from the inside.

You can see her in the pic holding the lace in place to give me an idea of how it’ll look.

Worth noting: this is still very much a work in progress. What you’re seeing is a pinned gown with sample lace. That “sleeve” is literally a bolero on backwards 😂

She mentioned the final version won’t cover as much of my chest, and it’ll have pearls up the back of the sleeve back covering that line up with the pearls running down the back of the dress.

Pearls are a very personal theme between me and my two mums. I’m wearing the pearls I got for my 21st and a matching bracelet, and I gifted both my mums pearls too, so having them woven into the dress feels really special.

My two questions: 1 - The lace: everyone with me at the fitting loved it. I feel a bit exposed for the ceremony without it, so I’m leaning towards wearing it then and ditching it later. However, I love the dress so much without anything. I almost feel like I shouldn’t alter it at all. Thoughts?

2 - The veil: this is the one I picked. I felt a rush of joy when I first saw it, but looking back at photos a week on, I’m second-guessing myself. Would love some outside opinions.

Please be kind. And please don’t tell me to love my arms. I have scarring and loose skin, and there’s nothing between now and the wedding that’s going to fix that. I just want thoughts on the dress and veil. 🙏

***** This is a repost - I forgot to blur one pic in the first post that showed the dress maker’s face so here’s a properly blurred one and more pics. *****

Just got my first speedy and I need a little reassurance the handles will tone down a bit. Shop assistant assured me they won’t stay this bright. I wanted honey tanned looking ones and considered a vintage bag to skip this bit, but despite shopping around I couldn’t find a speedy that fit the bill. I love the bag but I have a little bit of buyer anxiety. Can any speedy owners reassure me? Or any tips on how to make it look less “out the box” fresh.
