Another annoyance

I got 2 weeks break from Yazio due to its annoying ai functions and bullshit animations. I got back and You know what welcomed me?

TWENTY QUESTIONS LONG SURVEY. And adding a meal was like another 5 questions... Plus nonsense animations and not being able to disable ai sloppiness

I no longer see sense in using this app.

Quick fix for TV remote

Unfortunately most used button - power button - on my tv remote was very soft. Actually this is the only button, where conductive rubber got used so much it stopped working. I tried conventional method of gluing new conductive rubber in place of damaged one. I stole rubber from unused button on same remote and glued in place with CA glue. That fix lasted two weeks. This time i planned to do workaround worth posting on r/techsupportgore: soldering smt microswitch and cutting out rubber on remote. Not elegant, but original remote costs over 20usd and I am too cheap to buy new one.

In process of searching box with microswitches I found a treasure! Unused remote from cheap humidifier. Fortunately, it has same conductive rubber style contacts.

In one moment proper fix became very elegant and easy: cut foil to size with scissors, stick it on remote pcb (foil on cheap remote has double sided tape included), close remote.

Now it works perfectly and as extra bonus now power button has nice, precise tactile feedback. In case it would be not a permanent fix i have another 5 buttons on donor remote.

Repaired an almost 32 year old microwave in a dumb way

This is my wife's childhood microwave. Yes. That's a sentence.

It's traveled through her family a lot so it weirdly has sentimental value.

When it got to us the keypad was on the fritz and suddenly stopped working all together.

The reason why was due to the conductive ink degrading over time. Some paths were completely missing and some were on the way out. Due to grease from food and contact wear.

I took a weird approach with fixing it. I could have used conductive ink to repair it but I don't have any so I decided to go a comfortable route. 30awg wire.

I cut most of the flex back to reveal intact conductive ink and worked there. I stabbed the wire through the plastic on the other side of the ink and routed it in a way so that it'll contact the ink when reassembled. Since it relies on pressure I also designed a squishier that'll keep everything in place.

I then had to remove the mating connector on the PCB and replace it with a common header that would allow me to plug and unplug as needed.

Reassembled it and now we have another 30 years 😂

If it breaks again I'll just design a new button panel since the schematics are available online. Remember when that was a standard?

Bomb has been defused

LiPo 4S got sefl-defused after being left forgotten in my basement for about 4 years. Now it is only a pillow.

TBH i upcycled this by stealing balance cable :)
