Planning to start a manual car and bike wash (Need input)

Hey everyone,

I am planning to set up a manual car and bike wash service center in a tier 3 town (\~4,000 sq. ft.)

The Setup & Location Advantage:

Located directly adjacent to 4–5 vehicle dealerships/lots. I plan to actively pitch them.

The workflow will be a straight-line assembly flow:

Main street entrance -> Customer Lounge/Cafe/Accessories Shop -> Central Dry Detailing Zone -> Covered Wet Washing Bays at the far rear.

To keep initial capital lean, I am avoiding full automation but focusing heavily on robust commercial-grade machinery.

My Research & Current Equipment Choices:

Here is the heavy iron I am looking at right now:

1 Hydraulic Hoist: ATS ELGI 4-Ton single-post hoist (with a dedicated H-ramp) for essential underbody mud blasting.

2 High-Pressure Washer: Shifting away from overpriced proprietary setups to an industrial wall-mounted Brass Triplex Plunger Pump (targeting 150 Bar variable pressure with an unloader valve, and a high flow rate of 12–15 LPM).

3 Air Compressor: 3 HP, 100L or 120L Belt-Driven unit (running cool at \~1100 RPM to handle back-to-back foam cannon use without cooking the pump seals).

4 Vacuum: Hyco 60L Wet/Dry Industrial Canister Vacuum with a triple-motor setup (4,500W total, but I'll run individual 1,500W switches for routine dry dust to manage power draw).

Need suggestions:

Microfiber Towels (GSM & Strategy): What is the optimal GSM breakdown I should buy in bulk? I was thinking 400 GSM for interiors/door jambs and a massive 800+ GSM double-twist loop towel for paint drying. What brands or specs hold up best to daily commercial washing/laundering?

Low-Cost Customer Engagement: Since I have a dedicated cafe and accessories shop at the front to draw side income (and capture the dealership staff), what are some creative, cheap ways to keep waiting retail customers happy and engaged so they don't mind a 30-minute wait?

The Washers/Compressor: Are there any hidden flaws in going for industrial/mid-tier wall-mounted triplex pumps vs. encased units like a Bosch GHP or Karcher HD cage classic?

Or any other suggestion which I may have missed like 3 phase electricity, variable cost.

Looking forward to your roasts, advice, and product recommendations.

Thank you everyone.

CNG Infrastructure Contracts in a Tier-3 Town – Looking for Insights on Process & ROI

Hi fellow redditors, I’m from a tier-3 town and recently I’ve been hearing that Adani Total Gas (in partnership with Indian Oil and other entities in some regions) is planning to expand CNG and PNG infrastructure into our area.

From what I understand, CNG stations may be set up at existing Indian Oil petrol pumps, and there could be opportunities for local contractors/vendors to participate in the development and installation of the infrastructure through tenders or contracts.

I’m particularly interested in the CNG side of the business and would like to understand:

  • How are such contracts or tenders typically awarded?
  • Where are these opportunities usually published?
  • Can an individual/small business apply, or do they generally require prior experience in gas infrastructure projects?
  • What kind of investment is typically required from the contractor/vendor side?
  • What are the expected margins or ROI on such projects?
  • Are there any members here who have worked with Adani Total Gas, IOCL, or similar CGD (City Gas Distribution) companies?

I am exploring infrastructure-related business opportunities in my area, so I’m trying to understand whether pursuing such contracts makes sense and what the entry barriers are.

Any insights, experiences, or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
