What is “lack of accent”?

I live in Japan. A while ago a guy stopped me while I was walking my dog and struck up a conversation. Inevitably he asked me where I‘m from. I replied Australia, and returned the question, though he was clearly American. He replied “I’m American, but I guess you can tell from my accent, or rather ~my lack of accent~”.

“My lack of accent” struck me as a strange thing to say. The guy clearly had an American accent. What did he mean?

Sorry for another 3分クッキング recipe

https://www.ntv.co.jp/3min/recipe/20091106/

Salmon sauté with tartare sauce. I made fresh pesto this morning so I tried replacing the pickles in the tartare sauce with a tablespoon of pesto. Worked pretty well. Not sure this is Japanese enough. Japanese recipe, Japanese ingredients so maybe.

A horse walks into a bar

Bar tender: why the long face?

Horse: very original. shut up and give me a beer

Bar tender: Corona?

Horse: no, I’m just a little hoarse

Edit: messed this up. It should be "A pony walks into a bar". Then "I'm just a little hoarse/horse" makes more sense.

In the news: Prime Minister Takaichi fumbles Peoples Honor Award

Aug 4: Prime Minister Takaichi presented Olympic gold medalist with the Japanese Peoples Honor Award, including a set of 10 Michel BRAS cooking knives from KAI Corporation.

Nice knives, but Takaichi has drawn wide criticism for having her own name engraved on each blade alongside that of the gold medalist.

Yamaha FG9

Hi, I have the opportunity to buy a new Yamaha FG9, either M or R at well below retail. The purchase has to be next Monday. I am a really bad guitarist who enjoys playing a lot. I have owned a Blueridge BR160 for about 18 years and I love it. but I’m really interested in the FG9.

Are there any reasons not to get the Yamaha? Assume that I can afford it. As someone who is an average at best player, will I be breaking etiquette to purchase a guitar that is beyond my ability to play it? Would it be a waste of a good guitar, or can not very good players enjoy a fine instrument?

I took finger picking lessons in Malvern PA in around 2006-7. I got interested in flat picking and spent a lot of time trying to copy Norman Blake from the Homespun videos. I still mess around with Townes Van Zandt, and really like Clarence White but I don’t even know where to start with the way he plays.

Finally, Rosewood or Mahogany.

Ablation in three hours

I was diagnosed with afib in March, had successful cardioversion a month ago, and right now I’m waiting for PFA in a few hours.

In hospital last night and tonight. Surrounded my cardiology patients and everybody snores. I probably do too.

Wish me luck.

Update: all done. Just coming out of anaesthesia foggines. Thanks for the good wishes

First cardioversion tomorrow

Had a CT scan yesterday that showed no clots in my atrium and was able to book cardioversion tomorrow. The hospital I’m at does PFA so if the cardioversion correction doesn’t last I’m hoping for surgery later in the year. Lost some weight since diagnosis and feeling good.

Update: thanks everyone for the advice. Cardioversion went well. Doctor put me on some new meds on top of the blood thinners to keep the rhythm regular. Didn‘t have time to talk much, but I have another consultation booked for the 15th. Doctor wants to discuss ablation then.
