Local interpretation requested

A man I know sent me this:

We are in fear that we will have genocide in Kasese because Banyarwanda- Banyongole occupation in Kasese is a planned move to kill the Bakonzo people and take our land because it's rich in minerals.

They are armed. They kill Bakonzo but will not charged by the government.

Instead, they arrest us.

Could a 1994 type of Rwandan genocide happen in western Uganda?

Is the situation that frought in this region ?

Good post Thomond gigs nightlife options

Hi,

I'm in this fine city until Monday and would love some recommendations on where to go for a bit of craic and live music, 40s demographic or older, well anywhere that's for the more mature (but no yet decrepit) crowd. Even though I'm from Galway I've only been out in Limerick for stags and that was a long time ago.

Thanks 👍 🍻🍻🍻

Do you get visited at home? Do you visit other men’s homes?

It just dawned on me today that all my social interactions take place outside my home.

I never have visitors, and rarely if ever visit any of my friends homes.

We meet in the pub or at gigs / sporting events.

I’m 50 and divorced for 10 years.

Is this the usual for us older blokes?

Baby steps

I've been plucking sporadically and getting nowhere....or so I thought.

But when I did a little off the cuff practice this morning, my couple of chords sounded ok, and my switching has gone from sloth to panda bear.

And it dawned on me that I don't need to see this as something I'll ever be really good at, but if over time I'm marginally better than I was, then in many ways I'm happy with that. Ultimately I'd like to be able to perform an hours set, but that's no longer the live or die goal.

My goal is to simply think 'wow, that G sounded crisp and warm, to think I'd never owned a guitar until 7 months ago'.

Has anyone else reframed their kearning experiences in a manner that keeps the self deprecating inner voice at bay?

(I'm 48 btw !)

Child born outside of the EU - do paternity rights still apply?

I will soon become a father to a child born outside of the EU.

I've trawled citizens advice so I think the following:

I can register the child as an Irish citizen, but must travel to that country of birth and get the necessary paperwork done.

I am entitled to apply for paternity, parental and parents leave here, but cannot spend any longer than 2 weeks out of the state.

I cannot apply for children's allowance as the child will not be ordinarily resident in the EU.

Am I correct in this?

Thanks

Matador

Has anyone ever seen the musical Matador?

I loved the 1987 hit from Tom Jones titled "A boy from nowhere" but I believe the show was unsuccessful and disappeared into obscurity.

Almost 40 years later it's still a song that comes into my mind quite frequently.
