Any UX Research recruiters in here?

If so... is a PhD or Master's a must anymore to even be considered for a UX *research* role (not design or content)? Trying to determine if I'm being officially pushed out of this market as a result of not having one... even though I've worked for companies like Google.

Has your job search (lack of response) been similar to mine?

Hey all, wanted to post this here, cus most of my friends either 1) don't work in tech or 2) if they do, it's in marketing, and so I feel like I'm having a hard time understanding what it's been like in my own personal field applying for jobs.

For context, I've been a UXR for 7 years, more recently in Senior/Staff/Lead roles, do NOT have a Master's or PhD (which I suspect is also working against me in these times), and also worked at big tech companies including Google.

I've been applying on and off for the last 6 months for full-time Senior/Lead UXR jobs, and in my experience it feels like:

  1. There are barely any UXR jobs to apply to in general – And if there are, the salaries are suddenly atrocious, especially for places like NYC or the Bay Area.

  2. I barely/rarely/never get a response to any of the roles I apply to – This is the one that I'm just like WTF – This is to be expected, of course, in any job search, but it seems especially bad??

On this second point, my non UX friends will say the market is bad in their fields as well, but they're still getting responses and interviews. I'm getting radio silence. Yes, I've reworked my resume a ton, but are you also experiencing this? And if not, why do you think that is?

I mean, I also believe UXR is getting annihilated in this market, and there have been tons of layoffs, so there are just lots of people likely in this field out of work and not a whole lot of hiring. So are you experiencing something similar, or is it truly my resume that's the issue, as my friends claim? lol

Does anyone have parents-are-old guilt?

I love to travel and live abroad, in cities I wanna live in, even if they're far from family... However, I also have this horrible, nagging guilt that my parents are getting older; I should be closer to them and spend time with them while I can (even though they also kinda drive me nuts).

I'm living in Mexico right now, and it's only about a 4-hour flight from family, so not too bad... It's about as close as I can get while still being abroad. But I want to move on (I've gotten one too many parasites here, unfortunately), and everywhere else that intrigues me feels a little too far... but I really am not interested in going back to the US yet. How do you all deal with this?

Study: Purchasing used vehicles over $100K – 3 more participants?

Hi all, I wrote a post about 2 weeks ago asking if folks had purchased a used vehicle over $100K, as I'm a user experience researcher and we're talking to folks about their experiences. This is the post: https://www.reddit.com/r/BringATrailer/s/Rwzgm19LUv

We've had an amazing turnout/participants from that previous post, and we just need 3 more folks to chat with. If you're interested (even if you wrote me before but didn't follow up), please send me a message – I'd love to chat with you. We're doing the sessions mostly this week and some of next week.

Context: I'm a researcher with Amplified by Design; we're a research & design agency that partners with eBay Motors, but this research is anonymous; we aren't selling anything, and we don't give eBay your information, name, or any identifiable information whatsoever.

We pay $200 for a 1-hour convo over Zoom, but signing up for the last 3 slots will increase the pay to $250. (Done over Zelle, PayPal, Venmo, etc.)

I initially call folks for 5 mins to better understand the vehicle you purchased for over $100K. And if you're a fit (almost everyone ends up being), I'll send you a calendar of times to sign up for.

Interested? Please message me (and please don't ban me for this post haha, I swear this is legit and I won't post about it again).

How do you find/afford housing?

My dad needs new housing because his current shared house situation is being sold. I cannot afford assisted living for him; the waiver lists are about a year old and cover a very minuscule amount anyway. Finding him new housing is proving difficult given his condition... I live in another country, and I'm single and on a low-paying freelance job. I already pay for his food... but I certainly can't afford the $ 3K–$6K+ a month in rent for assisted living. How does anyone here afford to help their parents but give them the care they need?

Have you purchased a used vehicle for $100K or more?

Hey folks, has anyone here purchased a used vehicle in person or online for $100k or more? I'm a user experience researcher with Amplified by Design – we're trying to talk to folks (anonymously) to understand how and where you tend to shop for a vehicle like this. It's a paid ($200) convo – Just seeing if there's interest or anyone applicable here? Hope this is okay to post!
