People keep talking about how Sasha in S1+S2 is different from Sasha in S3 in design, but OMG what about her personality guys?

Sasha when she is happy is definitely not the same when she’s raging. And this is coming from someone who thinks she’s really cute when she smiles.

Was Sasha’s complexity was way too subtle to the point where it’s very difficult for most viewers to understand her?

Today is Anna Akana’s 37th birthday and in honor of that I thought it would be a good time to make another post on Sasha‘s character.

I usually like it when complex characters like her have less screen time because it makes her complexity subtle, but as mentioned before I feel like most people don’t really like the less is more approach. Especially if that means they can’t really understand her well. And while I disagree with people calling her a villain, I still feel like most of them think that because her limited screen time caused her to be too complicated for most people in the fandom to understand not only her complexity but also what good she could possibly do in order for her to get a redemption later on.

Again, I don’t have that problem, but I feel like most people do in this fandom. So since she had eight episodes of Screen Time before season three do you think her complexity was way too subtle?

When Anne was mentioning she still cares for Sasha in Marcy At The Gates and makes this expression you see was she not being genuine or just still traumatized by what happened in Reunion?

Happy early 6th anniversary to one of the greatest episodes of the entire show and while everyone of course praises the episode for Marcy‘s debut there are some other bonus things that are also complex about this episode like with how Sprig’s reaction to meeting Marcy is kind of an accidental coincidence to have some fans felt about her first appearance (as I’ve talked about in a previous post a couple months back) and another one being the mentions of Sasha yet again.

In case you forgot a couple months ago, I’ve also made another post on how the episode “After The Rain” was Anne at her most angry at the time of that episode airing and how I think it set the catalyst for a new mindset that was embedded in her where she realizes even if you wish to start over with someone after they did something wrong, it is not that easy which later carried over in both The First Temple with Hop Pop and The Third Temple with Sasha (even if she does not want to have a grudge, she herself doesn’t know what she wants at that point). However, while I think that that episode was a massive catalyst for a mindset change, I wonder if some people might be divided that her mindset had already changed beforehand and a good example of that would be in the debut episode of Marcy.

When Sprig mentioned Sasha being horrible, Anne is all like “We are just going through a rough patch right now, but we still care for each other” all the while making this face you see up above. While I still stand by what I said in that post I made about Anne’s mindset changing after Hop Pop lied to her later in that season because I personally think she’s probably still getting over that depression of losing her rather than not being genuine about her feelings towards her then, I think this scene could also mean to some people that she was lying/being sarcastic in that scene meaning that at that point in the show, she already wanted Sasha out of her life.

I’m not sure if this scene could be taken in with two different perspectives or not, but since the whole dynamic with Anne and Sasha is legitimately complicated I wonder how did you take this scene: Was she lying and not being genuine? Or was she genuine but more so still traumatized from the events of that episode?

And BTW for my post on Anne’s change in her mindset here it is: https://www.reddit.com/r/amphibia/comments/1tryw43/do\_you\_think\_that\_annes\_struggle\_with\_hop\_pop\_in/

Am I the only one that still wonders why are some of the characters are classified as witches and not elves?

I know we all think some of the witch characters like Willow and Gus look like elves instead because of the pointy ears, but like a witch is usually ugly and an elf isn’t really. I feel like they’re all too cute to be classified as a witch (especially Willow since she’s the cutest in my opinion).

Did anyone feel bad for Amity in the Diary Scene in Lost In Language?

Though not as subtly or complex as Sasha Waybright, I really do appreciate how the writers approached Amity in the very first half of season one, most importantly how they handled her in the episode “Lost In Language” by showing how even if she gives the cold shoulder to Luz all the time then, she doesn’t deserve to be humiliated (As Luz said in that episode).

And seeing Amity hurt and sad kind of does make me feel bad for her a little bit then since her older brother and sister were trying to violate her privacy which was pretty vengeful and as Luz also said “was too far”. But what did you think of that scene?

People say that frown Sasha makes at the end of the third temple was the only time she was being genuine, but what about all these other expressions she made in that episode?

So it was all just fully an act and you didn’t care about wanting Anne to fully start over with you then, huh? Yeah, right…

Regardless if the Plantars had a reason to wind Sasha up in The Dinner or not, do you think Sasha had at least somewhat of a reason to snap in that episode?

Even if I think “The Dinner” was the weakest Sasha episode before Turning Point, I still think it’s a great episode with the conflict being a pretty complex one that kind of makes you want to look at both perspectives of the scenario.

In case you forgot, this is the episode where Anne and Sasha continue to start over their friendship but while that’s happening the Plantars are not happy with that and when they play a game in the third act, Hop Pop, Sprig and Polly bring up what happened in Reunion which pisses off Sasha causing her to lash out and rage.

Now I’m not saying the Plantars should’ve been nice to her, but one thing I find to be a little bit over the top is how Sasha had no right to rage in that third act. While I did say in a previous post, in that point in time she only cared about three beings and the Plantars are not one of them (especially since at that point, she found this world too weird for her that she wanted to get out of there ASAP) not to mention the fact that her excuse for saying that she tried to kill them one time, albeit true doesn’t change the fact that she does not care about them.

However, we should not forget how devastating that day was for her, she committed suicide because she felt like she was replaced and she nearly died too. Sure the Plantars were also in jeopardy but that day wasn’t any better for Sasha too. And even if you want to use the excuse that she was putting on an act in that episode, I feel like she only did that to an extent but definitely not the entire time. Therefore, do I think that the planters had no right to bring up the past tensions: No they had a right. But did Sasha had no right to yell: also no she did have a right. After all Two wrongs don’t make a right.

Would you have wanted to see more Sasha episodes in the first half of Amphibia?

A month ago I made a post asking if you guys would’ve been OK with The 3rd Temple being the penultimate episode of season two since I was wondering if anyone out there appreciated the whole “less is more” approach with Sasha. But since all of you didn’t really like that approach, I’m curious if Sasha got more episodes for not just her redemption arc, but also even before her redemption arc would her complexity be more appreciated?

I get that having limited screen time does add to the Subtly and complexity of her character but I also think it can run a risk of making people not understand her well in the same way people could understand Zuko or Amity. And knowing how Sasha only had a pitiful three episodes in the entire first half of the show (not counting cameos) which leads to like a total of 45-50 minutes of her out of 30 half-hours, do you think she was robbed of a lot of screen time and could’ve had the potential to be more interesting if the crew did more with her in that part of the show?

Personally, I don’t really mind how they did it, but I feel like if you guys wanted to see more of her in action whether it be before her redemption or even during it or even both I would completely understand you now that I know no one really likes the whole less is more approach.

Why are there fans of Breath Of Fresh Squidward despite that horrible ending? Is it because the apology SpongeBob does in the end keeps it away from that?

In my opinion, this is my least favorite episode of the entire show. I have hated it ever since I was five years old and I do think it’s genuinely worse than A Pal for Gary and SpongeBob at its worst. Say what you will about A Pal For Gary but at least he was acting oblivious and not some manipulative sociopathic catty bitch which is exactly what he is in Breath of Fresh Squidward and the most ridiculous thing about all this is that this episode has fans and I have to ask: Why? I know we are allowed our opinions, but that ending has got to be my least favorite ending of the entire show and I can not see how anyone can enjoy this when SpongeBob is probably at his most malicious and downright evil here (Just look at the face I’m showing you in the slideshow). I personally do not know how anyone can possibly forgive this episode for possibly having one of the worst endings of the entire show, so anyone out there who’s a fan of that episode please enlighten me and telling me why it is not bad despite SpongeBob being at his most manipulative here

Am I the only one that find the Sashanne ship in Season 3B to be incredibly lame and pandering?

I know some people kind of enjoy those friends to lovers dynamic or enemies to lovers dynamic but personally how Amphibia does it is so weird that gives me another reason why I dislike season 3B.

Like really think about this, the moment Anne saw Sasha’s resistance outfit, I start to feel like she goes downbad over her. It was one thing for her to be happy with her (As we see in Battle Of The Bands) but her crushing on her outfit makes me feel like the entire purpose of season 3B was the pander to the shippers instead of actually writing a good arc.

And while some people might be like “well Anne still wanted to try to make this friendship work in season 2B” and “Her reaction to seeing Sasha makes sense in 3B” I feel like the shipping was too overbearing in season 3B and for that it just gives me more of a reason to resent it.

Just had to get that off my chest.

Hypothetically, if Anne politely accepted Sasha’s offer on going home in True Colors, rather than yelling at her, do you think Sasha would try to visit her friends once in a while since she had the box?

I know I made a video on this already, but It’s always an interesting subject to wonder what did Sasha want to hear from Anne after hearing her proposal in true colors. We all know that at that point in the episode, Sasha only cared about three people (Anne, Marcy and Grime) and everyone else was practically an NPC to her. And while she was helping Grime with the rebellion, something is a little shocking about Sasha in that episode that I don’t think many people touch up, even I didn’t do it in my video back in May.

Instead of giving an ultimatum while using her infamous catchphrase “End Of Discussion“, she actually gives Anne and Marcy an offer if they want to stay and help her with the rebellion or if they want to go home. Obviously, this doesn’t change the fact that she still helped them at other inhabitants expense but I wonder: Because She had possession of that box, and her friends still mattered to her (her intention wasn’t to destroy the friendship, even though she did do that), do you think that if Anne kindly took Sasha’s offer on going home, do you think Sasha would plan to visit them on earth once in a while? If that would work or not is an entirely different question, but I do think that since she was not planning to throw away the friendship, and has the inability to think in the long-term (as is impulsive) as most teenagers do, I feel like she would probably would want the power to be with whoever she wants whenever she wants and keep all her friend groups in tact.

Does anyone else feel like rainbow rocks does a great job of portraying an awkward friendship that’s developing?

Normally, when people review Rainbow Rocks, everyone seems to constantly joke around (or be serious, IDK) about how the humane five were being bad friends towards Sunset Shimmer throughout most of the movie by leaving her out and constantly bringing up past tensions. However, I don’t know if it’s just me, but considering the Sunset said in the climax about being too shy to speak her mind out, but only finally decided to do so after she realized the friendship was nearly about to go bye-bye, I feel like it’s a solid take on when both parties of the relationship are in an awkward stage and still developing on a better relationship.

Let’s not forget that Sunset was of course the antagonist of the first movie and it’s clear that in the second movie, the humane five are more so her comfort zone rather than friend group and evolves into something bigger than that by the end of the movie. I also feel like bringing up past tensions is kind of normal in a relationship like this because it can be seen more so as awkward rather than toxic. In a way it’s kind of giving a little message by “showing how even in a comfort zone things may not always seem to be magically perfect as it takes time for those scars to heal as well” as well as “if you don’t stand up for yourself or speak your mind out you’ll still be trapped in a bubble of being able to open yourself.” And I think those are pretty good messages to teach to the demographic of the show.

But what do you think?

Do you think we’ll see Percy and Braddock again in strange voyage or at least what has become of then?

Sure, I know they’re probably not be able to see Sasha again or something like that, but I want to see Grime deliver the apology to those two at least. Totally want some closure on that.

And off topic: I find it odd how there are probably way more people that can understand/defend Jax from TADC more than Sasha (Pre Turning Point that is) despite the fact that the latter was always more caring than Jax ever was (that was just something I wanted to nitpick about because I really want to get that out of my chest)

5 Episode Ideas To Make Sasha’s Redemption Arc Better. What do you think about them?

My aunt always tells me the bigger they are the harder they fall, and in terms of Sasha’s redemption arc, it kind of was a big fall. Maybe not enough to get me angry, but it does sadden seeing how the potential for it was kind of wasted due to her having a lack of priority then. But at this point, I’m pretty sure 90% of us could all agree that Sasha deserved better for a redemption arc.

However, I see everyone has their own different AU’s or fanfiction to show what they would do to fix the arc. For me, I’m not want to write fanfictions but I did have a few ideas in mind for stuff I would’ve wanted to see in 3B that would’ve fixed her arc. And these episodes would mostly replace the episodes where she did not have a big focus (Those include Grime’s Pupil, Sprivy, Newt In Tights, The Root Of Evil and Fight Or Flight). As for all the other episodes where she did have a focus, I’m gonna save that for a video where I talk about how I would rewrite those episodes because episodes like Olm town Road, The Three Armies and Sasha’s Angels had a good idea buried somewhere but was mostly held back because of its execution being incredibly lackluster in all three of those episodes.

With that out of the way, here is what I would’ve wanted to see in season 3B of Amphibia to make things better.

  1. Sasha learning from Anne that it’s OK to keep the positive parts of her old self as control sometimes works when people need you the most. (Episodes like The Third Temple prove that)

  2. Anne reflecting on true colors and apologizing to Sasha for her rage, she had on her in that episode and tries to tell her that she was not a horrible person even then because there were times before where she helped/had good times with her (this would help make the ending scene in all in, not feel like a gaslighting moment as I pointed out a few months ago)

  3. A 22 minute episode where Sasha interacts with the planters rather than Sprig interacting with grime the show that the planters trust her now instead of magically doing so within the midseason premiere.

  4. Maybe a rescue mission where Percy and Braddock get kidnapped or in trouble by some of the robots and Sasha goes and rescues them and apologizes to them. (I would want to get closer on those two, but if we see them in strange voyage, I’d be OK with that too).

  5. Make Commander Anne 22 minutes.

What do you think of them?

Is the Mindset of trying to help someone at other people‘s expense, and the person being helped wouldn’t see that as you helping them a normal one of to have?

Ever since I saw Alex Meyers’s Obsession review and his whole bad faith argument on bear not being a bad guy in the movie, I wanted to try to prevent myself from accidentally igniting a bad faith argument on anything about this show in the future, which is why I wanted to address this:

I feel like no matter how you view Sasha in the show before Turning Point (whether if you think she’s a villain or not) I feel like 90% of us could still agree that Anne had every right to end the friendship in true colors. However, I wanted to bring something a little bit more nuance to the table on that discussion that I wonder if it’s kind of the norm to have this mindset: While I still won’t deny that Sasha arguably had noble intentions initially at the start of true colors for helping the only three people she cares about, I feel like if anyone was Anne in the scenario, nobody would care that your friend is trying to help you because all you really see is your friend helping you at someone else’s expense. Therefore, why would you care/understand if someone is trying to help you when clearly see them do that in a wrong manner.

So besides the obvious flaws about Sasha, I wonder that if you just take away everything obvious about that scene for a moment, is it normal to not care if someone you know is helping you at the pain of others?

A little bit late for this but 5 years (and a month) ago, my favorite analysis video on Sasha was released!

This was the guy that inspired me to make my own Sasha in True Colors video back in May. He was really good at explaining why Sasha was not a hero, but neither a villain in Season 2.
