When it comes to reach and sales, Jaÿ-Z is certainly a major figure in hip-hop. But when it comes to the stylistic evolution of the genre, I don’t think much of him.

To me, he’s simply ‘hip-pop’. He’s found a formula that appeals to the masses. That’s an achievement, of course. But neither his flow nor his sound are in any way special, nor have they advanced hip-hop as an art form.

Perhaps I’m quite alone in this opinion. Nor is this meant to be an attack. I’m curious to know what you think?

How can I tell if I need to replace the stylus on my record player? Can I tell by looking at it? Can I hear it?

It would be great if I could get a few tips on this.

I'm having a bit of a hard time getting into Faust's discography. I find the LP Faust IV very accessible. The rest of what I've heard so far strikes me as quite wild and avant-garde in parts.

Still, I'd like to explore Faust's work a bit more. Maybe someone has a recommendation for me on which LP would be a good next step after Faust IV.

I’m a huge fan of Can. Whilst each album draws on its predecessor, it’s still different. There are few bands that maintain such a high standard across so many albums. Okay, in my view, things go downhill after Soon Over Babluma. Still, there are six albums in a row that are simply good – including Ege Bamyasi.

Still, I’m surprised it scores so highly. On rateyourmusic.com, it ranks third, not far behind Tago Mago. And that raises questions for me. Because I think Tago Mago and even the lower-ranked Monster Movie are much better. Maybe it’s because I prefer albums that stick to a consistent sonic concept. And to me, Ege Bamyasi feels more like a collection of tracks that have little to do with one another.

Do you agree with me? Or what do you think?

Peanut Butter Wolf produced some incredibly powerful tracks in the 90s. And for me, this EP is one of his standout releases. It embodies exactly what I love about HipHop from that decade.

Ich finde, dass Bob irgendwann eine moserige Meckerkopfart entwickelt hat. Das ist einerseits gar nicht schlecht, weil es ihm Kanten verleiht. Aber bei mir hat es ihn einige Sympathiepunkte gekostet.

Wie seht ihr die Entwicklung der Figur Bob in den Hörspielen?

Ich lese gerade das Buch Frankenstein. Nur noch wenige Seiten habe ich vor mir.

Beim Lesen kam und kommt mir immer wieder der Gedanke: Mit Dr. Frankenstein habe ich kein Mitleid, obwohl er im Verlauf des Romans viele Menschen, die ihm etwas bedeuten, verliert.

Anstatt irgendwann demütig zu werden, dreht sich für ihn immer alles um sich. Selbst wenn andere durch die Hände des von ihm geschaffenen Monsters sterben, ergeht er sich selbst nur in Mitleid.

Wirkliche Einsicht, dass er den größten Anteil an der Tragödie hat, kommt ihm nicht. Er sagt zwar immer wieder, dass Unheil durch das von ihme geschaffene Monster über andere gekommen ist, stiehlt sich dann aber vollkommen aus der Verhandlung. In seinen Augen ist alleine das Monster böse und verantwortlich.

Wie seht ihr das?

I know, of course, that Krautrock is just a collective term for experimental German music from the late ’60s to the late ’70s. But why do you love it? What exactly draws you in? The repetitive nature? The unusual song structures? The experimental aspect?

As for me, I can't—and don't want to—let go of it anymore.

What's going on? Does anyone know why? Is there a risk that other Can releases will disappear from there too?
