Transitioning out of journo dreams?

I'm at my wits end applying to several journalism reporting and producer roles for the past 2 (I'll be honest, it's been 8) years. I live in a big city in California. I have a masters and published bylines. I fully support independent media and freelance work so much that I decided to produce my own print and videos on community-centered features and news. It's been 7 years of it and it's great. I have self-contained structure and freedom for creative responsibility. I get so much joy out of it. Instagram audiences even love it. I pitch other stories to publications yet they don't want it. Then they write about it and the public gives a standing ovation to a content creator. Occasionally I'll read or watch other publications long after they rejected me. So why are the VC-funded and some independent publications still hiring content creators with choppy edits over reporters with real skills? Why do writers with no journalism background get pushed to the front? Has this just become more about clickbait and nepotism? If this is what mainstream and independent publications want, then what gives?

Should I let go of my journo dreams and swim the pipeline to communications coordinator roles? One of my mentors passed away and I can still hear his voice saying, "please keep writing, we need more journalists like you."

The economy sucks. The climate is changing. Social media is rapidly intensifying and TikTok is a weird place. Money is dry but it can come later in other ways. Hard cold advice appreciated.

Multimedia journalism to communications coordinator pipeline?

I'm at my wits end applying to several journalism reporting and producer roles for the past 2 years. I have a masters and a ton of published bylines. I fully support independent media and freelance work so much that I decided to produce my own print and videos on community-centered features and news. It's been a year of chasing my own stories and it's great. I enjoy it, people seem to love it. I pitch ideas to publications yet they don't want it. Then they write about it and the public gives a standing ovation to a content creator. Occasionally I'll read or watch other publications long after they rejected me. So why are the VC-funded publications still hiring content creators with choppy edits over reporters with real skills or reporters with unreliable personalities as their talent? This is what mainstream audiences want? I've decided I can transition into cc roles. If you have any advice or were a past journalist or maybe you really enjoy your current line of work, please share. The economy sucks. Money is dry. Money can come later. Life is shambles.

Pedi gel recs in South Bay

I'll be in South Bay for work this week and would like to support a local business. Do you have a rec? Willing to spend no more than $60 with tip. Looking for a salon that's very meticulous around my cuticles!
