Korg SQ-64 or another Keystep Pro

Can I use an old ass Optimus keyboard that has midi in and out to control the notes going into each track on the SQ-64 to sequence other synths?

I looked through a bunch of videos on YouTube, but I didn’t see anyone doing that. I currently have the Optimus controlling the M-vave FM-1’s notes and pitch with no sequencing ability.

The sq64 is a cheaper option than the Keystep pro and that’s what is making me want to go that route.

I want to turn my regular mex strat into a Jerry Garcia Alligator.🐊

I haven’t built or worked on a guitar seriously in over a decade. I’m wondering where I might be able to source some of these materials if anyone has any suggestions.

Key Modifications
Alligator served as an experimental testbed for modifications performed by local metalworkers and Alembic collaborators: [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
The Blaster: Equipped with an onboard pre-amplifier/clean-boost circuit (the "Strat Blaster").

Hardware Changes: Fitted with a brass bridge, brass nut, and Schaller tuning pegs.

Custom Plate: Featured a hand-hammered brass control plate underneath the output jack.

Has anyone done their own alligator stray that might care to share photos or ideas on how you did it?

M-vave Fm-1

I had the Fm-1 hooked up to my laptop via the included usb cable. I was not trying to update software or firmware via the 5din midi.
The banana split is a midi splitter that goes from my KSPro > banana> synths and drum machine.

M-vave Fm-1 will not update on my computer. I believe I have all the minimum requirements to update this thing. It just arrived and I can not for the life of me figure out why it won’t update firmware or connect to my Keystep pro via 5pin midi w/ the TRS adapter (using the 5pin to 3.5 trs adapters that came with my microfreak).

Keystep pro midi out is going into a splitter (banana split) 1 in 6 out.
If I set to any ch., I’ve tried several, I get no control/communication between the KSPro and the Fm-1.

I am able to get some “M-upgrade” window but, it only lets me “update patch” with an option for update firmware just above that is greyed out and unclickable.

Frustrated beyond belief with not being able to figure out wtf is going on.

M-Vave Fm-1 updated on a newer computer just fine.
Midi communication is working properly with the “type-A” midi 5pin to 3.5 trs adapter.
I’m very pleased with this little inexpensive synth.

Is there a way to save sequences/projects externally?

I’m not sure what my mental block is…..I can never get my key step pro to save and keep my projects.
Reading the manual just causes me to feel like I’m incapable of understanding printed instructions.

Trying to make a somewhat mobile dawless rig out of basement garbage and an old road case.

There are times I’d like to take my gear with me, but, the setup has been kind of…….. not so easy to move.

It’s fun and annoying as all hell at the same time trying to figure out how to fit everything. Needless to say, the top will not fit back on the base.

Looking for recommendations for piezo tuneomatic & wiring ideas.

Currently wired with Dimazio Super II’s, 3way selector, 1 vol pot, and 1 push-pull tone pot with coil tap on both pickups.
