Victoria's Victory Foundation

Victoria's Victory Foundation

I applied to the cycle of scholarships that just closed. I'm really grateful someone let know about this resource though because they grant scholarships for mobility expenses, including for use to purchasing wheelchairs and other mobility equipment and rehabitative services. You can request for up to $6000. I'm waiting for them to make their decision on who will get these scholarships and I'm just anxiously hoping and checking for decision emails because I really could use a good and reliable custom wheelchair and power assist device (which I applied for).

Has anyone applied for these scholarship from them or have even received one? I have no clue the number of applicants there are because I'm newly disabled, so I just wanted to see if I can get a better picture of how much hope I should have. Also wanted to get this resource out there to anyone in need, as there are multiple application cycles that occur throughout the year and there will be one openjng up soon I believe.

I really, really want to take back my life and regain access to the things I used to be able to enjoy freely, but without such a beautiful foundation like this one, this would be too far out of reach to even make happrn for me.

Let me attach a screenshot of similar opportunity that Firefly gave to me when I reached out about financing so I can help anyone else in need.

Clean your ice machine NOW

You actually should've done it yesterday. Get to it before it's too late.

If you neglect regular cleaning, it doesn't not take long for *things* to begin spewing. And if your machine is like mine, you can't disassemble them to deep clean the out-of-touch parts and crevices. So don't even let that growing process begin. I say with aggressiveness, GO CLEAN IT.

I don't know who took over my consciousness and gave me the motivation to find a way to scrub that thing clean. I just became a renound engineer who had a will and was going to find a way to not toss that Govee machine be tossed in the trash. It was bad. So bad.

Here's the tools that I utilized, but there will be no tutorial for this witchcraft.

The following instruments were utilized for deep sanitation: a scrub daddy scrub, a scrub daddy wand, TWO knives and a spoon (all used in conjuction with each other), paper towels, and many q-tips along with some dish soap (do invest in some vinegar or descaling agent please, however, and not rely on dish soap)

We are running that cleaning cycle an extra five times to be certain she's properly decontaminated. It honestly a little too satisfying how pristine she looks right now. I will never be able to repeat this process or the delusion while in post-surgery spinal surgery recovery that it took to make this happen.

BUT DON'T DO THIS. GO CLEAN YOUR DANG ICE MACHINE. NOW.

(And if you didn't read this with the upmost dramatics, then I fear this message will never properly be engrained into you.)

End scene.

My body is so stressed from surgery

I had surgery a week ago from today and I'm struggle. I think the surgery just brought on so much bodily stress and it's disrupting all my regulation. I can't eat anything. I can't sleep. I feel so uncomfortable and am in barely controlled pain. My blood sugars are feeling like they're wonky. I just feel no good at all. It's just a huge challenge for my body to adapt to and I'm trying to be patient with myself and give myself time to fully heal, but I'm so tired of feeling this way already.

Can anyone relate to this experience? When did you truly start feeling the recovery from the surgery happening? Did you notice it at a certain point?

(I also had a spinal decompression done in the surgery as well, along with the fusion. My body does not like change apparently)

[intro] saying hello!

Hi there!

I'm spending some time orienting to this page and felt like I'd take a stab at my intro post. I'm an almost 30 year old full time student, who is also disabled. Unfortunately I became fully disabled just after Christmas last year and my life changed completely. I lost all my mobility very quickly and became bed/homebound. I had to stop working but I refused to give up schooling because I needed something to be working after still or else I'd completely lose myself too, in addition to my health. I don't know how I did it but I finished the semester with a 4.0 despite all my challenges and I think that's pretty cool.

Fun fact - I'm an ambulatory wheelchair user. This means I utilize a wheelchair as needed for mobility needs but still have some functioning in my legs. Most people see me and just assume I'm paralyzed because I'm in a wheelchair, so I joke around everytime I stand up and say "it's a miracle! I can walk again!" It was funnier at first but now it's losing it effect.

I enjoy reading books and being outside in nature. I'm trying to find what I enjoy in life again currently and trying to initiate new things to try out so I can learn to be more present and grounded. I want to *live* again. It's a work in progress. I would love to maybe try knitting, work on some Lego sets, explore my creative side a little more, and I would also love to learn how to live a nature-enriched life adapted to my lifestyle, which often involves a wheelchair or rollator (whose names are Fred and Freddy) I'm really trying to enhance my life and grow through this hiccup that occurred and caused such extreme stagnation.

One last fun fact about me is that I just had spinal surgery last week! I'm embarking on my long healing journey now and it's not comfortable, and often causes a lot of pain. So distracting myself is my goal in getting through this. That's how I found this page. There's enough to learn on here to keep me busy for a while. I'm a rambler too (clearly) but I wanted to just thank you for allowing me to introduce myself and hope I can spend more time on here talking to everyone!

Kindle Payment Plans

I'm currently forgoing a lengthy surgery recovery and have been really wanting a Kindle to occupy my time. I'm on disability right now, so outright purchasing one isn't reasonable for me. I was wondering if anyone knew of anywhere that you could finance (buy now and pay in installments) that I could check into so I could potentially order one. I've checked ebay and Facebook Marketplace but people are listing their Kindles for almost as much as they purchased them for, so it doesn't really offer much discount to the price.

I understand that financing may not be the smartest decision for a lot of people, but I'm only considering this because of the circumstances with me being home recovering from surgery. I know people keep informing me about the Kindle app, but I already have eye problems so I don't want to be reading off a screen and make it worse.

I appreciate any suggestions!

Getting spinal surgery and I’m scared

I’m getting spinal surgery on Friday over at Unity and I have no idea what to expect. Does anyone have any experience with this that they could share? I’m supposed to stay in the hospital a couple of days but I don’t have to go to rehab or anything afterwards. So, I’m on my own afterwards and would like to know what to expect. It’s supposed to be an eight week recovery period, so I want to be as prepared as I can be.

If you know of anything I should get for recovery, please let me know!
