I'm a hobbyist and would say I'm an early advanced repertoire player. I currently listened to prokofiev's etude op.2 no.4, visions no.14, and suggestions diabolique. Which one is the hardest, and what are the types of difficulty? And also, I would favor a piece that is liked and respected by juries in competition, like Pathetique sonata which is very respected by judges, not something like Fantaisie impromptu, liebestraum, Allah turca, etc, because in my area they are overplayed and always get mid scores. Do you think a niche piece(prokofiev's) would have a higher chance to get high scores? Thank you.

I saw no. 19 on piano library 4/5 and no.14 (feroce) on 4.5/5. So feroce is in same difficulty with suggestion diabolique? I'm quite baffled and confused. It's only about a minute long.

I saw it rated as a 4/5 on pianolibrary. But I saw it higher than prokofiev's toccata on a YouTube video (Caleb Hu). If this was on the abrsm and trinity list, would it be put in FRSM/FTCL? And maybe what about Henle? Has anyone played this piece?

Which one is better overall, and which is the worst out of the three? For me, personally, I like a fresh scent, not too sweet nor too masculine.

I've seen it on Frsm syllabus, and on RCM syllabus. How hard is it really? I've heard a person say it is intermediate etude, but I think it as definitely an advanced piece, on par with difficult chopin etudes like torrent and black keys. Has anyone played it before? I would like to know more information and difficulty about this piece. Thanks.

Hi, I'm a 15 year old hobbyist and I'm flying to NYC in mid July and hoping to buy some books from Juilliard store. I'm looking for technique books so I can improve my technique and my ability to play harder pieces above my level. I'm thinking of Hanon, Czerny op.740, cortot rational principles of piano technique and the russian method by leon conus. I would say I'm almost advanced level. I would like to hear your recommendations. Thank you.

I learned pathetique 1st mov, 2nd mov, 3rd mov, flight of bumblebee pretty well, learning bach wtc1 prelude and fugue no 6, czerny etude op 740, and used to play chopin etude op 25 no 2.

I like prokofiev especially now, one of my liked pieces are etude op 2 no4, suggestion diabolique and toccata, but I don't know of they are okay or not. I don't like too much popular pieces, like fantaisie impromptu or others because I want to be known and more 'special' by juries. Something like kapustin concert etude would be nice, but again, I don't know if it suits my difficulty level. I think prokofiev etude op.2 no.4 suits me, because the tremolos in the left hand can help pathetique 1st mov and vice versa. Honestly, I would love to hear your honest piece recommendations. P.S: sorry I posted 2 times today, which some Redditors may be offended. I'm a bit excited to learn a big piece for my next competition.

I recently got an open masterclass from a jury who judged me. She said to imagine the piece as a phrase or a sentence said by someone or an action, although it's hard. She also said to 'manipulate' the audience by your playing and your feelings. So my feelings should reach their feelings and make them imagine what I would imagine. She also said the opening is a calm, tranquil night which the repeating accompaniment is like a flowing water, or can be imagined as your 'thoughts' and 'dreams' going and going.

In my opinion, I kind of generally imagine that the sonata is divine and God's song. I imagine it as a person sitting in the clouds of heaven watching the sunset and looking down on Earth( reality/pain and suffering). The person doesn't care at all and is in a 'Zen' state with no overthinking.

Can you guys help me or give me some ideas on the phrases and the philosophy behind it? Thanks.

Hi, I will be playing Flight of the bumblebee (rach's) next week along with pathetique sonata 2nd mov as the first one. Personally, I'm pretty dependant on warm ups like scales and arpeggios before playing a piece. Are there any ways I can warm them up or be "ready" without warm up? Or is it all mind games??

I have a competition in almost a week and i feel like i cant play well as I did before. Some notes are not fully pressed enough, and teacher says I gotta move my fingers more than my body. The middle section of the left hand repeating some notes just drives me crazy. Do you guys know any practice tips or just any tips for this piece? Please share your expertise. Thank you guys.

I previously took my state exam which I'm a student from international private school. I was wondering if they matter. My parents say that they add the state exam results up and makes a passing score line which gives you opportunity to study abroad. If you're below, you can't study abroad. Is this true? I have heard that as long as you pass, you don't need to worry. Also, students who failed automatically got a 60%. Thanks.

My teacher assigned me czerny etude op 740 no 16, which I find not hard. Can any of you suggest me some pieces or etudes that will develop technique, especially improving scales, evenness and relaxation?I'm thinking of trying moszkowski etude op 72 no 6. Thanks.
