Im between the Fairmont, Sanctuary, Mountain Shadows and the Omni.
Shadows seems to be cheaper than all others. Is there a reason for that? Quality or location? Ive heard good things on here.
Fairmont is getting mixed reviews.
Couple mid 40’s, no kids. Looking for stunning views, pools, quiet and maybe spa.
Wife’s first time.. so wanna give her the “scottsdale” experience (so she will want to go back!).
WBNS in Columbus, just named a weekday morning meteorologist 4 months out of college.
No disrespect to this young woman, who clearly is talented and must have a lot of potential.
But my god.. a weekday weather person at a former powerhouse station in a Top 35 market, with less than six months experience. That used to be a job that would attract hundreds of tapes and demand a decade of experience.
So for those anchors at other Scripps stations… is it business as usual? Or are news directors telling folks to start looking? Like Detroit, Cleveland, Tampa, Phoenix… are those anchors all out by the end of the year? Is everyone not freaking out? It’s kind of been radio silence.
Anyone else feeling incredibly discouraged? It’s like.. no station group is safe or “good” anymore.

Even Hearst is hiring kids out of college in Harrisburg, KC etc.
Who would have thought Sinclair would be one of the most stable station groups.
It’s almost impossible to look for a job, cause it feels like bullets are flying everywhere! The number of stations are dwindling.
I haven’t seen much reported on which stations were hit, how many at each, and what positions. This intel helps others decide whether to apply or avoid those places etc.
Ok. So I recently went to Deer Valley. Stayed at Stein Eriksen Lodge. Elevation 8200.
I had bad altitude sickness days 2-4. Not only nausea, but trouble sleeping and breathing. It was scary. But I survived.
Only felt better when going down to Park City. Elevation 7000. Back up to Stein? Trouble breathing again.
Am I crazy? Is there a noticeable difference between 7k and 8k elevation? I had similar trouble at Vail.
However I did fine in Santa Fe and Jackson Hole.
Is my threshold just 7k and under?
I am paranoid to travel out west again, for fear of intolerance.
Any similar experiences?
So Ive used the libre 3 on my underarm for months now. Usually no reaction. But this week, 9 days after removing, the filament site is red and itchy with hard skin at the site. Could it be a growing skin infection? Or just delayed reaction that takes a while to heal?
Never been. Is this a good summer vacation? Or will it still be packed (as other posts have stated). Recently went to Newport this summer, and it was a miserable zoo. Overpriced hotels, no parking, look-at-me crowd.
I want a relaxing quiet Maine vacation.
Maybe Bar Harbor but stay outside town?

Are Tegna stations signing long term contracts for new onair hires? Or is it safe to ask for a 1 year deal? I am concerned about the station being absorbed in a year, and a long term committment seems risky. No?

Ive noticed on LinkedIn, all these college grads announcing their first reporting jobs in places like Milwaukee and Kansas City. Thanking the recruiters at Hearst and Scripps for making it happen.

I could have only dreamed of getting my first reporter job in a Top 35 market when I graduated 20 years ago. It took me 3 stops before I got there.

So my wife and I came back for another visit. Second June there.
I love Chatham, and I love the property/food/hotel etc.
BUT… I absolutely HATE the people who stay there.
Ive never seen so many people trying SO HARD to look and act like a “somebody”. I saw so many girls dressed up, taking stupid posed photos trying to look like influencers. It’s like they came there just to post on Instagram.
Also, so many kids! Who takes their kids to a place like this. Classless. (Thats a whole nother topic)
Anyway.. I like adults only boutique resorts, because you avoid the riffraff “look at me!” crowd that goes to this place.

I haven’t watched TV News in a while. So I was randomly watching some newscasts from New England this week. They were awful.
Here is an example: This was the top of the Fox61 newscast in Hartford. Look at how uneven the anchors are height wise. It looks comical. Back in the day, this never would have happened. The producer, director, anchors.. anyone would have spent ten minutes shot blocking, getting a box, raising chairs, checking the anchors in the monitor. Does anyone give a shit anymore? Do these things not matter? Is there no news director watching?
(They tossed to reporters who appeared straight out of college btw). Just an example of the lack of attention to detail Ive noticed everywhere.
I also watched Fox25 in Boston. One anchor, and a deserted newsroom behind her. Used to be two anchors, and a packed newsroom full of energy. Its like everyone has given up.
Question for talent recruiters/ND’s:
Are stations still flying people out for job interviews? Has that been axed from budgets? Or has that been replaced by post-pandemic Zoom calls?
I am a larger market onair reporter. Havent interviewed for a new job since pre-pandemic.
Im talking about reporter jobs in markets 1-40. Say, a reporter job in Pittsburgh, or a weekend anchor in Cincinnati or Hartford type job.
Wondering what the timeline/process looks like these days.

I was (until recently) a major market, multiple award winning reporter anchor bla bla bla. Top 10 market middle aged white guy. Star reporter. Great tape. Great agent.
Cant get an offer even in Market 30.
Are stations just not hiring anyone over 25? Is it because my tape is old school and Im not doing the news on my phone or social?
Are any other vets finding it difficult landing top tier jobs? Ie: six figure reporter gigs. I used to command tons of interest from stations, looking for a strong lead reporter. Now it seems they dont care about that.
I know the answer to all my questions. Im not dumb. But Im curious if Im alone.
