Hannah’s style

For people who read the books, how do you feel about the change to Hannah’s style? She has a very distinct style, that Garrett remarks upon quite a lot in his inner monologue. Dark clothing with one colorful item that stands out. I think I would have liked to see that in the show. Although maybe it wouldn’t have worked with show Hannah, who is very different from book Hannah.

I just cried for the first time watching this show

Watching the series for the first time and I’m on season 10 episode 10. Watching Katie hear the news that Tom and Rachel made out and that people cheered literally shattered my heart. I’m genuinely shocked that this saddened me to the point of tears. Because I was already someone who didn’t cry much, but ever since I started taking lexapro tears have been non-existent for me. I know what it’s like to be that hurt by someone who was supposed to love you. And the fact that they did it SPECIFICALLY to hurt Katie makes my stomach turn. The rule of not hooking up with anyone in the group is a very reasonable rule and it makes me feel like I’m living in Bizarro world when other cast members act like Katie is being unnecessarily controlling. About a rule they BOTH agreed to when they divorce. A rule that was the ONLY rule. I know Raquel eventually gets what she deserves but I hope Schwartz does too. I don’t think I would like Katie this much and feel for her this much if it wasn’t for how horribly Schwartz has treated her and how overhated she is by the fans. I never thought there would be cast members who would make me angrier than Jax and James have. But alas, here we are.

Oh also Scheana can kick fucking rocks and I hope Katie does run train through TomTom.

Edit: I’m now at the end of episode 14. I’m literally shaking with anger. If it was possible to reach through my TV and pull people out, I would grab Rachel and the Toms by their fucking throats, torture them for hours, before stabbing each of them in the stomach so that they slowly and painfully bleed death. Good lord, these bitches have turned me into Stassi 😂

Edit 2: I’m on the Scandoval episode. And I honestly have no words. I have never felt such rage and hatred in my heart for a complete stranger. All I can say is that just like Lala, I also thought that fucking twat was a dumb before Lala’s father died. And I wish I could go back in time and force Scumdoval to watch Jax fucking Kristen all night long. If I ever rewatch this show, every terrible thing that Jax does or says to Tim will make my heart sing. I can’t even finish the episode tonight because my heart just hurts too much.

Love Island quips

I was going back and forth was an idiot in a TikTok comment section and when I’d finally had enough, my last reply was “boot this girl outta this bitch”. And there was no response. I have an addiction to arguing in comment sections but I think if I had an arsenal of love island quotes to use as clapbacks I could end an argument a lot faster by using a love island quip than by writing a long paragraph explaining my point for the umpteenth time. So I’m asking everyone to comment their favorite love island quips please and thank you 🙏🏾 😊

Caitlin and Barry

I don’t think it’s talked about enough how Barry literally ruined Caitlin’s life. Her husband’s death was a direct result of Barry’s selfish decision to time travel despite knowing the risk of death to everyone in the city. At least with flashpoint and Dante and Cisco, he didn’t know that his time traveling could potentially cause such a change. But with Caitlin and the singularity, he knew before that there was a significant risk of the entire city being destroyed if he time traveled. Yet he still went ahead with the plan after learning of the risk. It’s one thing to willingly put your own life at risk, but to knowingly put everyone’s lives in the city at risk without their consent is such a wild decision for someone who’s supposed to be a hero. Especially when it wasn’t even for noble, heroic reasons; for example like when Felicity redirected Darhk’s bomb to target a smaller town with a lot fewer residents than the bomb’s original target of a major city with millions of residents. It was a purely selfish reason.

And blaming Thawne for Ronnie’s death is such a cop out. Because Thawne didn’t force Barry to agree to accepting his help in going back in time to save Nora. He didn’t force Barry to continue the plan after learning of the fatal risk not just to himself but to everyone. He didn’t force Barry and the team to trust him when he told them how to avoid opening the singularity. Because who in their right mind would trust someone whose every word out of his mouth for the past decade and a half has been a complete lie? It’s like the story of the scorpion and the toad. A scorpion is always going to do what a scorpion does; it’s up to you to decide if you’re going to be the stupid little toad that lets him on your back despite knowing his nature.

I wished they had switched Caitlin’s and Cisco’s feelings about Barry’s time travel messing with their lives. It makes way more sense and is much more realistic for Caitlin to be the one pissed at Barry for half a season instead of never blaming him than it was for Cisco to be the one. Because I don’t know how she ever spoke to him again after he got Ronnie killed.

Putting myself in Caitlin’s shoes, my blood is genuinely boiling at Barry for her lol. Especially when you consider the fact that Caitlin ended up just as alone and heartbroken as she was at the start of the series meanwhile Barry got his happy ending with the love of his life and his children.

The People v. James Kennedy

I flagged this as “rewatch discussion” because it pertains to season 7, but I’m watching the show for the very first time.

I need to get something off my chest. I’m currently on season 7 episode 5. I’ve been going back and looking at the live discussion threads and I’m honestly shocked at the amount of sympathy James got. James being a raging, uncontrollable misogynist is not at all the same as Katie being a meanie. Especially since she hasn’t been Tequila Katie since her bridezilla season. Maybe it was the specific live thread I was reading, but I was shocked that more people didn’t talk about how James’s mom reeked of boy mom in her conversation with Lisa. She was like “yeah his actions are indefensible but he was provoked.” Which is similar to what a lot of boy moms say to excuse their son’s shitty actions; the excuse they use for actions that could range from slinging misogynistic insults to r*ping a girl. I saw a lot of people say “well Katie started it!” Um, I believe she made fun of his pants. That does not warrant the misogynistic tirade James goes on afterwards. And he’s done this countless times. Someone will say to him “you’re an idiot” and he uses that as an excuse to say the worst things under the sun. It reminds me of when white people respond to a black person making fun of them by calling the black person the n-word. Racism and misogyny should not be in your toolbox of self-defense words. Especially when, similar to what Katie said, it would hurt more/be much more impressive if he came up with some exceedingly clever insult. Going for the low-hanging fruit that is racism and misogyny is so lame and lazy.

I know it’s hard to see someone get ganged up on and exiled, but why are we acting like he doesn’t deserve it? And for people to say, “well Jax is the exact same” is irrelevant. Because I, at least, am waiting for similar comeuppance to happen to Jax too and it’s extremely frustrating that it hasn’t yet happened. But just because Jax hasn’t gotten his karma yet doesn’t mean that James doesn’t deserve his. Especially when James has said the most heinous and vile things out of everyone, and done it more times than everyone combined. He’s the reason I stopped watching the show for a while because the sight of him made my stomach turn. And the thing is, it’s not like this was the first time James has done something like this and he wasn’t given a second chance when everyone else was given one. This was his millionth chance. No one else except maybe Jax (although I’m not sure about that) has been given as many chances to change than him.

Idk, I’m probably going to be downvoted because James can be a funny and entertaining villain (he’s made me laugh more than anyone else in the cast) and this is Reddit, but I just needed to say this.

Bridgerton and Off Campus

So we all know these two shows have been compared a lot since Off Campus dropped. But has anyone realized that the first lead couple in both shows did the fake dating trope? I guess that’s a popular trope to start off a series lol

Gold chains

Is there any particular reason why the boys all have chains and wear them 24/7? Are these just friendship chains or is there a hidden meaning behind wearing the chain at all times?

Should the show have truly embraced having an ensemble cast?

I’m wondering what the show would be like if instead of focusing on one lead couple each season, they had multiple storylines going on simultaneously stretching across the seasons, giving the main characters more or less the same amount of focus each season. Like Friends or How I Met Your Mother. Maybe that way certain plots wouldn’t feel so rushed? Idk, what do you guys think?

Belmont’s Silence

Is anyone else low key getting the ick from Belmont because he hasn’t said a single word in defense to all the hate that his gf is getting? It’s getting ridiculous at this point. Even Ella has sort of said something.

Edit: I don’t know why I bothered to post this when I already know that no one stands up for or cares about black women except other black women. I need to stop having too much hope in humanity

Episode 6: The Breakaway

Apologies if I’m missing something obvious, but can someone tell me what was the breakaway in that episode? Was it Allie ending things with Dean at Thanksgiving?

For every other episode title, I can pinpoint the scene where the title is derived from, but I have no clue from episode 6.

Edit: Okay, I think I’ve figured it out. The hockey definition of breakaway is: “A player in control of the puck has a breakaway when the only opponent between him and opposition's goal is the goalie.” Meaning that the player was able get clear of all the defensemen and only has the goalie standing between him and the goal.

Metaphorically speaking, this could mean getting free from all the barriers and hurdles keeping you from achieving what you want. So I think the title applies to when Allie agrees to restart things with Dean, because she’s finally letting go of all the self-imposed barriers for why she and Dean shouldn’t be together, and is going after what she wants.

Does Amazon have a strict time limit for the runtime of an episode?

I’m wondering this because the perfect solution to being limited in the number of episodes per season is to make each episode longer. I personally wouldn’t mind watching 2-hour-length episodes lol

Garrett’s jealousy

This might be a little toxic but I low key really enjoyed seeing Garrett jealous of Jeff. There was a post the other day about favorite times of when Garrett is smiling at Hannah, and one of my favorites is when he arrives at drunk Shakespeare. His smile when he sees her drops so fast when Jasper walks up to her 🤭

Anyone else bouncing between the book and the show on repeat?

Like so many of us, I have been watching and rewatching off campus on a loop for weeks. To break the cycle, I wanted to reread the off campus books and then expand to the sequel series that I haven’t read. But I just keep reading the Deal over and over again 😂. And reading the Deal makes me want to rewatch the show, and getting to the end of the show makes me long for more Hannah and Garrett so I go back to rereading the Deal. I fear I may only get off this hamster wheel once season 2 comes out 🙃

Garrett and Cindy

In the show, Garrett begs Cindy to leave Phil and she doesn’t. In the book, Garrett doesn’t tell Cindy to leave but we find out towards the end that she left Phil. I know it’s more realistic for Cindy to stay with Phil for the time being, but I also think that Garrett’s speech to Cindy in the book was better than the one in the show. Take a look:

“I’m not going to drag you out of here over my shoulder, or call the cops and tell them there’s domestic abuse going on in this house. It’s not my place, and I won’t interfere. But I need you to know a couple things. One—it’s not your fault. Don’t you ever blame yourself, because it’s all on him. You did nothing to invite his criticism and his verbal attacks, and you didn’t fail to meet his expectations because his expectations are fucking impossible to meet.” My chest seizes so hard my ribs ache. “And two, if you ever need anything, anything at all, I want you to call me, okay? If you need to talk, or if you want to leave him and need someone to help you pack or move or whatever, call me. Or if he…does something and you need help, for f*ck’s sake, call me. Can you promise to do that?”

Here, Garrett is being a bit gentler than he was in the show. He puts the decision to leave purely in her hands, while also making sure to let her know that he’s available to offer support when she needs it. In my experience with people in abusive relationships, being told “just break up” isn’t super helpful. I really like the way book Garrett reassured Cindy that she’s not to blame for anything, and made sure she knew that she has someone she can reach out to for help.

I know a lot of people say that show Garrett is an improvement on book Garrett, and I agree in a lot of ways, but in this situation I think book Garrett handled things better than show Garrett.

What is a typical waiting period from final round to offer?

I’m a junior in finance and I had three rounds with a firm. The last two rounds went very well in my opinion, and my recruiter said that when they reached out to the firm afterwards, the partners were excited about me. It’s now been three and a half weeks since the final round, and I still haven’t gotten an offer. Should I abandon hope?

What’s Hannah’s third job?

Hannah tells Logan that she’s holding down three jobs for minimum wage. She has the job at Malone’s, the job at the arena, but what’s the third one?
