When do you know if baby is hungry or just fussy?

FTM to a 8 week old, currently exclusively breastfeeding and I have no idea when my LO is actually hungry or just fussy. Anytime she cries I just whip out the boob and she’ll take it. I don’t think she’s ever declined it. Sometimes she’ll spit up a lot (which I believe is because she over ate) but most of the time her spit ups are normal. I also don’t really know how many oz she eats, sometimes she’ll feed on both boobs for 20 min, other times she’ll only eat one boob for like 10 minutes and then sleep. Just curious thanks!

Pediatrician asking to introduce bottle

FTM mom here and been exclusively nursing my 2 week old. She’s been gaining weight great and nursing has been so enjoyable and easy for us so far. My pediatrician said I can introduce a bottle now (pump 1x a day, I’ve never used a pump before) for convenience purposes. She said it’ll be useful if I leave the house for any appointments or other obligations.

I wanted to avoid pumping/using bottles for as long as possible but now I’m a bit scared my baby might not take a bottle if I don’t start now? Has anyone experienced this? I’m also assuming pumping just once a day won’t cause an oversupply.

Also, if I do start pumping once a day when is a good time to do so? Middle of the night so I avoid waking up engorged? Any advice helps thanks!

9 Day Waiting Period

Did anybody wait 9 days before submitting their SDI for pregnancy? I’ve read online you should wait 9 days, but keep seeing posts on here about submitting the day you go on leave. Just a bit confused - thanks!

TDAP vaccine - family member refusing

Hi just looking for some advice/insight on if we’re doing the wrong thing. My doctor was very adamant about requiring family who will be seeing our baby to get the TDAP vaccine. Keep in mind we’re only allowing immediately family to see the baby the first couple months. My parents and sibling had absolutely no problem getting the vaccine, they got it the day after I told them. My husband’s family on the other hand… I knew they’d be having issues but thankfully my mother in law and father in law (after going on an anti-vax/doctors are controlling us rant) agreed to get it. The only person who is refusing to get it is my husband’s sister, even though she has gotten the vaccine 6 times growing up. It’s been over 10 years so she needs it again but is refusing. She’s claiming that social media is lying to us and fear mongering us. Mind you we have a moderate stance on just about everything, but our doctor was very adamant on this and even said “no vaccine no baby visits”.

We feel like we’re doing the right thing by putting our foot down and defending our decision. Has anyone gone through something similar? Just want some insight since the end of the day I, as the wife, will always get blamed.

Alila Ventana - Am I Missing Something?

My husband and I recently stayed at Alila Ventana for our babymoon and I’m beyond confused as to why so many people rave about this property.

We arrived around 10 PM and after getting settled we were told we could order from the late night menu through the Hyatt link/app. I tried ordering but the link just wasn’t working. I sent it to my husband so he could try but he experienced the same issue. We then texted the concierge number we were given to place an order and received an automated message saying they couldn’t “accept texts between 11 PM and 7 AM”. A minute later, someone responded saying they could take our order. Ok, great. We sent our order and then… nothing. Five minutes, ten minutes, twenty minutes passed so I sent a follow up message and never received a response.. Eventually, my husband called the front desk from the room phone and we were finally able to place the order.

The food itself was shockingly bad. I wasn’t expecting a gourmet experience at midnight, but the premade sandwiches felt like airline food. For a property in this price range and reputation category, it was beyond disappointing. We’ve had late night room service at Andaz Papagayo and the difference wasn’t even close.

Breakfast at Sur House was excellent. The bacon, eggs, potatoes, and shakshuka were all great, and lunch there was also very good. The food quality at Sur House was probably the highlight of our stay.

Pool service was where things really fell apart and I was really starting to wonder how this sub raves about the property so much.

We ordered drinks and waited about 30 minutes. My husband’s drink eventually arrived, but mine didn’t. After waiting a while longer, we looked over at the pool bar and saw my drink just sitting there. My husband walked up to the bartender and asked about it. The bartender replied, “I think they forgot”. My husband said no… the drink is right here and the bartender apologized and said “my bad I didn’t see it. Later, we ordered food while we were literally the only guests at the pool. It took 50 minutes to arrive. 50.

While we were waiting, a group of six sat down and ordered. Thirty minutes later, they still didn’t have their food or drinks. One member of the group eventually went to the bar and explained they had an activity starting in ten minutes. Their food still wasn’t ready and they realized they forgot to make the drinks. The staff offered to deliver it to the activity location instead and it seemed like that group was really frustrated at that point. What confused me most was that the pool wasn’t busy at all. This wasn’t a situation where staff was overwhelmed by crowds, the service was just extremely disorganized at every turn and it seemed like the servers didn’t want to do anything.

Another thing that stood out to me was the lack of basic follow through. After our late night meal, we left the trays and dishes outside our room for pickup. They sat there the entire next day. When we checked out, the food and dishes were STILL sitting outside our room exactly where we had left them.

We noticed the same thing at the pool. After finishing our meal, we left and returned to our room. Later, my husband went back to the pool area to grab some sparkling water (roughly two hours after we’d left) and our dirty plates and leftover food were still sitting on the table untouched. He genuinely couldn’t believe it.

I understand that luxury properties can have occasional off days, but this felt like consistent lack of communication, forgotten orders, extremely slow service, etc.

One other thing that surprised me was the suite itself. Given the reputation and price point of Ventana, I expected to be blown away by the accommodations. The views are beautiful, but the suite itself felt ordinary and wasn't particularly memorable. For comparison, I've stayed at Carmel Valley Ranch and actually preferred the suite there. No, it doesn't overlook the Pacific Ocean, but the room itself felt more spacious, comfortable, and luxurious.

All in all I kept waiting for that "wow, now I understand why everyone talks about this place" moment, and it never really came. Save your points folks.
