Window tint questions

Hi everyone. Wanted to know opinions on xpel xr black tint. I have a X5 and though dealership says they did do free add on tint of permagard brand , tbh I really cannot see any tint. I looked into getting Xpel xr black 20% for rear and 35% front side windows. . Ive been quoted $700 from a reputable business. Is this decent pricing & do detailers remove door panels for clean bottom edges.

I shall speak to dealership to reconfirm the tint as this was a free add on, but I am reading good reviews of Xpel compared to others. Also what brand car shades betn x-car vs snap shades?

Wheel smoke and burn smell due to DPF

Hi everyone . I am here to get some genuine advice from professionals here. my X5 30 d had an incident within two weeks of purchase. after doing 250 km in 3 intervals on a day at end of 90 km we noticed smoke and fumes for 1-2 min from driver side front wheel and footwell area. car got towed and been 3 weeks . we got their reports yday which i am posting to see if everything was done to diagnose .

* Road tested vehicle for approximately 15-20 mins and was unable to replicate the concern.

* Raised vehicle on a hoist and carried out a thorough inspection of the engine bay and underbody. No abnormalities, leaks or signs of damage were identified.

* Performed a complete vehicle diagnostic scan with no fault codes present.

* Checked DPF regeneration history through BMW diagnostic functions and found a regeneration event had occurred approximately 5 km prior.

* Based on the inspection and test results, the smell was considered consistent with a DPF regeneration event. During initial regeneration cycles, a noticeable burning odour can be present as exhaust temperatures become extremely high. Combined with cooler weather conditions, this can occasionally create visible vapour or steam.

* In some cases, residual protective grease or coatings applied during the manufacturing process can burn off during the early stages of vehicle operation, which may result in a temporary burning smell.

* No faults were identified and vehicle operation was confirmed as normal.

Extended Testing

We carried out a further extended tests and overnight road test covering approximately 90 km.

Findings:

* Vehicle was driven under various operating conditions to attempt to reproduce the concern.

* Vehicle was subsequently reinspected by our BMW Master Technician.

* No leaks, manufacturing defects, electrical faults or abnormal conditions were identified.

* Vehicle continued to operate as designed with no faults recorded.

Post Road Test Inspection Findings:

* Our master technician conducted a comprehensive visual inspection of the vehicle following the extended road test, with particular attention to potential fluid leaks, signs of overheating, and component integrity.

* No fluid leaks, abnormal wear, or irregularities were identified.

* All systems and components inspected were operating and presenting within normal specifications.

* No unusual conditions, defects, or concerns were observed during the inspection.

Road Test 2

• A comprehensive visual inspection of the vehicle was carried out prior to commencing the road test, with no abnormalities identified.

• The vehicle was road tested under a variety of operating conditions to attempt to reproduce the reported concern

• Following the road test, the vehicle remained parked overnight and underwent a further inspection the following day.

• A detailed visual inspection was performed, including assessment of the front right wheel area and surrounding components were closely assessed, including a direct odour assessment, and an odour was detected, however, it was found to be consistent with the protective coatings and materials commonly present on new vehicles. To further validate this observation, a comparable BMW X5 was assessed under similar operating conditions, and a similar odour was also noted.

• No abnormal conditions were identified. Heat generated from normal vehicle operation, including brake and exhaust system temperatures, was found to be consistent with expected operating characteristics and within manufacturer specifications.

Road Test 3

• A third road test was conducted under similar operating conditions to further assess the concern.

• Findings were consistent with those recorded during Road Test 1 & 2.

• Post-road test inspections confirmed all systems and components were operating within normal parameters.

Technical Review

• Findings and test results were reviewed and discussed between BMW Master Technicians who had road-tested the car.

• All involved reached a consistent conclusion, with observations and inspection results aligning across all road tests.

• No evidence of a vehicle defect, safety concern, or abnormal operating condition was identified during the testing and inspection process.

While we appreciate the concerns you have raised, despite extensive inspections, diagnostics, road testing and ongoing monitoring, we have been unable to reproduce the concern or identify any fault
